Superb Highbury apartment in historic building, close to tube, free broadband

Bedrooms 2
Space 645 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 - 6 nights

About the property

Friendly helpful owners, great neighbourhood, two bedrooms, separate shower

The great thing about this superb apartment is its location. Built in 1774, it is adjacent to the buzz of one of London’s “destination streets” (Upper Street), one minute from the underground (Victoria line), and on Highbury Fields, which London's colourful mayor, Boris Johnson calls 'the jewel of our borough, positively bursting with artistic and cultural delights' and where he plans to make good his new year's resolution to lose a stone. The apartment's proximity to the underground and its excellent connections, makes it the perfect place to come home to. Part of an historic Grade II listed terraced house, it has recently (February 2010) been completely re-decorated, and is modernised to a high standard. Our guests frequently comment on its attractive “feel” and many make return visits.

We are very happy to arrange a taxi from the airport if required.

Please note this is a non-smoking apartment.

The property consists of:: One double bedroom and one twin bedroom, both with 100 percent cotton sheets and wool blankets; living room with colour tv, freeview digital channels, DVD player, VHS, hi fi, sofa and sofa bed with duvet (sleeps two); modern kitchen fully equipped with washing machine, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, electric cooker and gas hob, extractor hood, microwave, coffee machine and toaster, bathroom with separate shower.

Superb Highbury apartment in historic building, close to tube, free broadband
average rating of 4.66 based on 51 reviews

Great location—right by a tube station. The apartment was clean and clean comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

Nigel was a great host. We loved the location right by a tube stop. The beds were pretty uncomfortable. You need to be aware of the five flights of narrow stairs to get to the apartment.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the feedback and do hope you enjoyed your stay. There are actually four flights to the apartment, not five, and only the last is narrow (this is a very old building and it is Grade II listed which means we are not allowed to make any structural changes!) So sorry if you found the beds uncomfortable. No one has ever mentioned this but we will certainly check this out. We do have a spare mattress and would have been more than happy to change it during your stay.

Exactly as we expected

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here before (about 18mths ago) and we found it a very comfortable and convenient place to stay. Supermarkets, eateries and the tube very close by. The addition of the clothes dryer since our last visit was very welcome. Lovely cross breezes through the flat on the very warm days we had during our stay. A warm welcome from our hosts was much appreciated.

I would recommend this flat to anyone. We find the sloping floors a charming feature.

Absolutely perfect!! Great location.

  • 5 of 5

The owners were truly wonderful. The location is perfect, quiet area but close to restaurants, the tube station and a really nice grocery store. Nice washer and dryer, dishwasher, great kitchen and shower. I cannot think of one thing it was missing. We will recommend this place to all of our friends as the perfect place to stay in London.

Fantastic London Flat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience at this fun flat in the Islington neighborhood. Our children loved the twin beds in their room and we loved the charm of the apartment, which included pretty (non-working) fireplaces in the rooms and a cute but very functional kitchen. The building is historical -- very cool "Old London" looking and it overlooks a park on one side and the (surprisingly quiet) Overground train track on the other. You're very close to the train station and bus lines, plus lots of great restaurants, coffee shops and pubs. We're city people so the city noise was "normal" for us but might bother someone unused to that. We loved the top floor views, but should note that there are lots of steep steps up, which would be difficult for people with babies or injuries. Also of note: Laundry in the apartment, including a brand new clothes dryer! Very handy and nice.

Spacious flat with easy access to tube

  • 4 of 5

The owners were wonderful. Kind and generous with information about the area.

The flat is very popular and has been consistently booked for many years. It mght be time now now for a minor brush up. We wouldn’t have chosen the flat for a two week stay if we had known that there was no working freezer space for frozen vegetables, or a working dryer for our washed clothes. We expect some noise when we stay in a large, vibrant city. Islington has superb public transportation with overground, as well as underground trains. Be aware, however, that the trains run late at night and the rails are very close to the flat.

We were aware of the comments made about the steep and narrow last section of stairs. We adjusted by bringing very small suitcases to make our lives easier. Having minimal clothing with us shouldn’t have been a problem as there was supposed to be a working dryer for our clothes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We very much enjoyed meeting you both and especially running into you in our local Italian restaurant! Apologies for the non-working freezer. This is due to be replaced very shortly. This property has never had a tumble dryer and to the best of our knowledge has never been advertised as having one. The last flight of stairs are smaller and narrower than the rest - a consequence of this being a converted Georgian building, originally built in 1774! The overground / underground station is approximately one minute from the flat which of course means that the tracks are also close to the house. The vast majority of the trains however, are electric and quiet which generally guests get used to very quickly. Again great to see you during your stay and hear about your time in London.

Loved it. Great for families.

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of six, with four young boys. Absolutely loved 2 Highbury. With the park and metro station within 100 meters it was super convenient. The restaurants and grocery storre are also just around the corner, less than 5 mins walk. Sally and Nigel were so pleasant and accommodating. Great experience. Thank you.

Located in fashionable Islington, home to award-winning restaurants, fashion and food shops, this attractive apartment is on the top (third) floor of an 18th century Georgian townhouse. Less than a minute from the tube (Victoria line) it overlooks the beautiful green space of Highbury Fields, while being 10 minutes from Oxford Street and the West End. The famous Almeida Theatre, Sadler’s Wells dance theatre and cinemas are on the doorstep, and the nearest Tesco supermarket is just 5 minutes walk. An ideal base for exploring London, the apartment is also perfectly placed for day trips to Paris. Just one tube stop away is the iconic, beautifully refurbished St Pancras station (stop off at Europe’s longest champagne bar before you leave), and the dazzling new arts and music venue, Kings Place (opening 1 October, 2008). We have been letting apartments in London and Edinburgh (see no. 12881) since 1998, and pride ourselves on making our guests welcome. Do come and try it for yourselves!
