Solitude, privacy and comfort - nothing wanting

  • 5 of 5

A long overdue solitary retreat, this proved to be just the right place.

Cosy, warm, quiet and simple, this had everything I was after. For five days I was able to shut the world out - bliss!

Tea bags, coffee and a pint of milk awaited me - very welcome. One of the hosts showed me where everything was. There was a booklet outlining clearly information from wifi codes to local walks from recycling to the village shop (more on that later!)

Comfy bed and pillows, the place was spotless throughout. For most of the time there was absolute silence. Once every couple of days (and a few times on the Saturday night) a car went racing by but beyond that, nothing. Crows, little scurrying creatures and wood pigeons were all I noticed.

When my wifi refused to work, the husband came swiftly and brought it back to life. Civil and efficient, he shared some fascinating history about the place.

For supplies, don't even consider going further than the village shop. Small it might be but the goods they cram in! Continental cheeses, exotic tinned items, meat from the farm across the road (do not miss out, the lamb fillet was first class) and frankly the finest meringues and mince pies (homemade) EVER!

The cottage was everything I hoped for and the hosts and the village wholly supported this feeling.

I’m not the easiest to please but I’m happy to say this cottage pulled it off: no mean feat!

Lovely property perfect for a getaway or base in Country

  • 5 of 5

Rachel was very accommodating as we would not be turning up until later in the evening than originally planned.

Everything you needed to have a little home away from home including comfy sofas and a log burner for those days when the weather was not suitable for going for walks through the picturesque countryside

A wonderful cottage with character, cosy and has everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from the cottage after spending the weekend celebrating a family 50th birthday, it was perfect in every way! From the moment we arrived and Rachel showed us around it felt like home. The only bad thing was having to leave on Sunday! The cottage was full of character but with all the modern amenities, everything was first class with quality bedding and towels provided. The Pilgrim pub across the road from the cottage was very welcoming we had an evening meal which was superb.

It was great for walking, with several marked walks available from the village. Also a short distance away from National Trust properties with woodland walks, or Milton Keynes for shopping.

Thank you Rachel and family, we had a wonderful time and hope to return again soon.

Perfect location for us

  • 4 of 5

We booked the cottage as a central spot to explore an area of England neither of us had ever visited before. It proved to be a perfect choice as we were able to visit Bletchley, Windsor, London, North Downs with comparative ease. The delightful pub across across the road was a bonus.
