This cabin on Big Pequaywan Lake is owned by a group of friends from the Duluth area who have maintained their friendship through their shared love of the outdoors. Throughout the last several years, we have completed some wild adventures together, such as: kayaking the Mississippi River, biking around Lake Superior and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim. Lately, we have decided to spend more time enjoying the area we have all lived in for most of our lives, Northern Minnesota! In order to enjoy the area to the fullest extent, we decided to purchase property on both Little and Big Pequaywan Lakes, which are a couple of the nicest lakes around. A little more about us: Tony: Grew up in Chisholm, Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; is currently employed as an engineer in Duluth. Chandra: Grew up in Minnesota; graduated from Lake Superior College; currently employed in the physical therapy field in the Duluth area. Lucas: Grew up in Northern Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Twin Cities; currently traveling throughout North America implementing business excellence principles within the forest products industry.. Roxanne: Grew up in Sturgeon Lake, MN; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; currently employed in the organizational development field within the forest products industry.
Roxanne purchased this House in 2016
Why Roxanne chose Duluth
We love this area so much and after successfully renting out another property here we decided to expand our business and build this cabin ourselves. We take a lot of pride in the fact that we all worked together to build this cabin during the winter of 2017.
What makes this House unique
The beautifully furnished living/dining area is a great place to relax and converse after a long day on the water or in the many acres of state owned forest just minutes from the cabin. If the outdoors is your primary reason for visiting, you will really enjoy fishing on Pequaywan Lake (very little traffic, no public landing) or snowmobiling on the many miles of local trails (less than a mile from the Brimson and Pequaywan trails).

My friends and I decided to go out of town and found this beautiful cabin. The moment we stepped into the cabin, we all immediately fell in love with it! Super cute and cozy. We absolutely loved the sauna as well; such a nice touch!
We will definitely be back!
Beautiful home, much more than a cabin.
Enjoyable and comfortable.
A few directions for the TV would be helpful as we were not familiar with the options.
Thank you for the review. We are so glad you enjoyed it. We will type up some directions for the TV - good advice!
We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful new cabin. The weather was a bit crazy, and we were very happy to find the cabin well stocked with everything, including flashlights when the lights flickered and the wind blew! The power did go out briefly but we had flashlights in hand. The Fall leaves were gorgeous and we did daily trips along the shores of Lake Superior. It snowed over night our last night and the view of falling snow while lying in the comfy bed was great. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equipment and we cooked and packed lunches almost every day. We would definitely stay here again!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! Hopefully you can come back and stay with us again sometime in the future.
So comfortable and inviting. Really didn't want to leave. Even more than we expected. Will DEFINATELY be back.
Thanks for an amazing experience.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We do hope you will come back in the future.
Beautiful place, but a little disappointed upon arrival...
It's a beautiful place and we enjoyed a few days on the water fishing & kayaking. We also had quite a few adventures hiking and seeing some waterfalls and even traveled to take the Soudan Mine tour (highly recommend)! Could not give this place 5 stars as the floors on the entire lower level were not swept upon arrival, including the 3 seasons room. The garbage was not emptied in the kitchen or in the garage upon arrival, which when staying for a week made us cram the cans full in the garage. Also, the meat/bait wrappers were still in the freezer from some stay before us. That was the worst discovery as we didn't know how long it had actually been in there.
A load of sheets were left in the dryer when we arrived, we kept them there as we weren't sure what should be done with them as nothing about that was listed in our arrival packet.
The cabin was beautifully finished and had great views of the lake, just were a little disappointed as we left it cleaner than when we arrived.
Comfortable stay with our two elderly dogs and 90 year old parents/in-laws.
This review is regarding how the property fit our unique needs of accommodating a handicapped 90 year old. I think the property would work beautifully for others. And we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
The parking is on nearly the same level as the entry. There is a main floor bedroom where our parents(in-laws) stayed. The only problem they had was that the immovable bed was against the wall and they had a hard time getting in and out of bed. Our father (in-law) enjoyed his nightly sauna and we all enjoyed playing board games (bring your own) in the screen porch each evening. The pancake turners/spatulas were awful for cooking delicate easy over eggs. So, you might want to bring your own spatula that won't ruin their non stick pans.
There are TWO washers and dryers! This was great because we needed to launder a few things. Speaking of clothes, there was no place in the bedrooms to hang our clothes or to put folded clothes (No dresser/closet). They did have two luggage racks in the entryway.
There also weren't any bedside tables. For elderly folks, this was sorely missed. But the upstairs bedrooms had USB ports and outlets built into the headboard. That was a huge plus!
We also enjoyed the individual air conditioners in the upstairs bedrooms - so that individuals could set their perfect sleeping temperature. Upstairs windows do not have screens and there is no cross ventilation, so the air conditioners were important to us. And our parents (in-laws) enjoy a much warmer temp than we do, so being able to have our own a/c was perfect.
There is a dock on the lake, but beware that there is about a 3 foot drop from the dock to water and no way to easily launch the kayak from the shore. Our 90 year old father (in law) struggled with this. But an agile 50 year old (or younger person) should do fine with a little help.
There was no cell phone signal, but we used our cell phones through the cabin's wifi. Which was good to have in case we needed to make an emergency medical call.
All in all, it was a great time away with our aging parents (in laws). Thank you!
Thank you for your your review. We really appreciate the details, as these are new cabins and we are still making improvements. We are planning building some closet space and/or adding dressers. We are not handicap accessible, but do have one bedroom on the main level, so I hope that helps. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! P.S. The water levels have been down this Fall, but in the early summer through mid-summer the water level isn't so low in comparison to the dock.
This property is located in a spot where you can easily take day trips up the North Shore and enjoy the State Parks or into Duluth for City Life!
