Tranquility all around you!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Rustic Retreat. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a secluded getaway. There was lots to do on the property as well as near by. Everything was in driving distance of the cabin. There was some personal touches that were appreciated. The only suggestion I would offer is maybe new pillows, the ones on the bed seemed a bit aged. I thank Michael and Kris for their hospitality! A must see place!

Just the right size!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the secluded getaway for a week with our two dogs. I was looking for something small, away from a city, that would accept dogs. The cabin exceeded my expectations in that it was very well-stocked. The robes were a nice touch! I felt that throughout the property there were several little things that were well thought out. The hosts Kris and Mike were wonderful and I have to admit I was a bit envious of their multiple gardens, fruits trees, and chickens. They must have really happy chickens.

The only down side for me was the traffic noise from the highway. The noise could not be heard from the cabin, as it was drowned out by the Smith River, but it made walks through the forest a little less quiet. But alas, finding quiet places is difficult anymore.

The secluded getaway was an extremely comfortable place to return to each day after exploring the redwoods and nearby coast and we are very happy that we stayed here.

an amazing cabin in the woods!

The property is beautiful. The cabin over looks the river and is very close to the redwoods. The cabin has everything you need and the bed is so comfortable.

Rustic Retreat a real treat!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at the Rustic Retreat. The property was beautiful and welcoming. There’s nothing like drinking your morning coffee in a hot tub, overlooking the river. Kris and Mike were wonderful hosts. It’s a fantastic place to unplug and relax.

Camping in luxury

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our time at the Rustic Retreat.

The positives-super nice owners, their direction to the cabin was spot on. The place was clean and stocked pretty good for all of our simple needs. The size is perfect for two people. We loved being so close to the Smith River. And, the location is was very close to many trails and Redwoods which was the reason for visiting there.

The negatives- No AC so I would consider the temp. We had two comfortable nights with the temperature in the sixties but the last night was hot and we didn't sleep well at all.

Bugs were an issue the last hot night but mainly those ones attracted to light. Any time we opened the door they'd fly in...just like camping.

And my recommendation would be to opt to arrive using the bridge/golf cart approach and NOT driving in. We really didn't understand the issue and had all of our luggage and groceries so we thought it would be nice to just take our car. It was a much longer drive up and down the mountain with so many steep hair pin turns. The owners make it very convenient to pick you up and it's a short walk over a fun bridge.

Really besides the heat the last night, it was super nice and we had a great time.
