This renovated old stone cottage in the heart of picturesque Molyvos has stunning views of the sea, mountains and harbour from the balcony of the open plan living room/ kitchen and from the front downstairs bedroom. The two downstairs double bedrooms are en - suite, one having a spa bath, brass fittings and classic Greek washbasins in each.
Although retaining the atmosphere of a traditional Greek style family home with gorgeous old stone walls including niches and dark stained wooden beamed ceilings, the house is offered with all modern amenities.
Further sleeping accommodation for two is provided in the gallery above the living room/kitchen area.
Sunset: Spend the evening cocktail hour on the balcony enjoying the uninterrupted spectacular view of the sunsets, night after night after night!!! They are different every evening.
Shops: The bakery is less than 2 minutes stroll away.
Mini market stocking fresh fruit, vegetables and other provisions only a further 1 minute walk from the front door.
Peaceful Haven: Although the house is located in the middle of the village, it is in a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood, well away from any possible cause of disturbance.
I am Australian even though i feel Greek because I have been here most of my life.
My mother visited Molyvos and met a Greek fisherman and married him. What was so amazing all those years ago what that Giogios (my step father) married a divorced women who had children. Ever seen the Shirley Valentine movie well that was my mother before the movie was even made.
My mother Jenifer married Giogios the Greek fisherman (which he was, just retired) and we moved to Greece in1972 .We have been visiting since 1968.. (Maybe i shouldn’t write dates as this shows my age)
I was brought up in Athens and Molyvos. Molyvos because it was my step fathers village which we all love and spent every holiday here.
I have worked with tourism all my life and feel that what is missing is quality accommodation for people who love Greece and want to experience the real Greek life and stay in self catering houses that are comfortable and affordable.
I am happily married with 3 children, there is much more to the story but if you want more details you will just have to come and visit us.
I feel unique as i know of many Greeks that have gone to Australia and other countries but i don’t know of any Australians that have been brought up in Greece.
Melinda Mcrostie purchased this house in 2002
After living for many years in the village of Molyvos we thought that Captains View would be a great place for people to come and stay as it has a fantastic view of the whole bay and in a very central position. We bought it, did it up and i wish it was us staying there.
Great for families or friends. Perfect for people wanting a bit more privacy than staying in a hotel. A home away from home.
Situated in the centre of the village. all amenities only a few minutes walk away, tucked away in a quiet corner. The beach just down the hill. Stone walls give this house a typical Greek feel with the many other touching points that compliment the ambience.
Car parking 5 minutes walk. Really impressive view from the balcony
Came for 1 week....stayed for 4!
If it wasn't for work, we'd want to stay more!!!
Dear Melinda, Theo, Afrodite, Kimon and Rhea...
It has been an absolute pleasure meeting you all! Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to stay - You have created a real haven! (..or heaven!!).
Thank you also for all your help - without which the extra 3 weeks would have been impossible.
Wishing you all, and the cottage, much love, peace and happiness.

We spent a lovely restful week in Captain's View in mid September 2013. The property was exactly as described, wonderful location, close to the bakery and shops with spectacular views from the spacious balcony where we were able to eat all our meals outdoors. The house is spacious, beautifully restored and tastefully refurbished. It is clean and very well maintained. Melinda and Theo provided excellent customer service, advising us about travel arrangements and arranging for a taxi to collect us from the airport. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return again. We visited The Captain's Table (Melinda and Theo's restaurant by the port) and had a wonderful meal of fresh fish-the whitebait came off the boat as we sat at our table!
Before you get to know the place you might find it a bit pricey, but one day was enough for us to find out that this house is worth every single penny of it's rent:
The premises are right in the middle of the beautiful village, yet very, very quiet, only pedestrians and donkeys can use the steep little alleys in this neighbourhood.
There is an impeccable view over the bay of Molivos from the awning - equipped balcony.
Behind it a spacious living room/ studio with a very well designed kitchen, dish washer included!
The broom closet is large enough for a wash machine, rack to dry your laundry, laundry pins etc included.
The attic functions as open gallery with sofa and television set, in winter it would probably be a cosy second bedroom, but in summer it is a bit too hot for a good night's sleep.
Two bedrooms with private bathrooms are downstairs (the house is built on a steep slope), one has a very nice view indeed with a big orange tree right in front, the other would be ideal as a walk in closet, for a really nice bedroom it is a bit dark, as the window opens to a narrow pedestrians alley, so no privacy either, unless you draw your curtains and keep the windows shut. If not, you might find a cat in search for a night's company in your bed!
In summary a dreamy, dreamy stay for a couple, with more people around we would have felt
a bit crowded in.
We stayed already twice and plan to visit this heavenly place regularly!
We had a nice holiday in Molivos in September 2013. It was my 9th visit to this village. Molivos is to us a paradise on earth, and we recommend it to anyone!
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at The Captains View, it was an exciting house with all facilities and we hope to be back soon.
In the harbour we enjoyed many good meals at the restaurant The Captains Table.
Once again thank you for your hospitality and friendliness!
Best regards Anna
Wonderful old house updated to modern conveniences. In a great location in the central village. Fantastic view from its large terrace. It feels a bit of a hike up to the house at first, but it's not really, considering the whole village is up-and-down. And every step is worth it. The Captain's View is charming, comfortable, fully-equipped, and private. And bonus: there are no more-accommodating owners on Earth!
Captains view is a wonderful house. It is spacious, has space, beautifully decorated and everything is available. Then you could have lived a long time. Shops, bakeries, etc., all in close proximity. Breakfast on the balcony is a dream. Molyvos a beautiful place with a lot of life, but you need a good physical condition, dennn the way to and especially to the house is steep and strenuous. So avoid high heels, so that will not get you far. And do not forgot the food in Melinda and Theos local captains table is excellent and any recommended! A big thank you to our landlady, who organized everything for us from the taxi at the airport, the rental car and everything was perfect. A soul of wife to the ears even though they have so much in season. Greetings to all dear Melinda, Theo and sons.
An overall joy. The house is beautifully situated in the centre of the city, within walking distance of everything interesting.
The house is rustic, with a charming aura to it, and I would recommend it to everyone interested in living luxurious "Greek-style".
Molyvos, on the northern coast of Lesvos, is the very picture of a peaceful Aegean village. Meandering and multicoloured, it's a maze of cobblestone streets, dark stone houses, and brightly painted wooden shutters. The high street(The Agora), crowded with shops and tavernas,is arched overhead with tangled wisteria vines.
Other Activities: Bird watching, Donkey Trekking
