About virginia carmichael
After being on the faculty at the University of Montana, teaching world postcolonial studies, I worked as a senior managing auditor in the State Auditor of Texas Office, specializing in public and higher education administrative and program effectiveness and compliance. I've written a book about the cold war and co-authored one about the link between albatrosses (and other seabirds) and legal and illegal fishing for high-value table fish, such as Bluefin Tuna or Patagonian Toothfish ("Chilean Sea Bass"). I moved to Massachusetts in 2007 to be near young grandchildren.

Why virginia carmichael chose Woods Hole
After being 11 years in Massachusetts near my grandchildren, I moved to Texas in 2018. My children and I decided to keep my Woods Hole home as a vacation home and to rent to people like you who might enjoy its quiet beauty and convenient location.
What makes this House unique
The house is surrounded by green, including a lovely garden. It's very private and quiet. A great deck for outdoor dining and several other garden seating areas are attractive in season. Parking for 3-4 cars is also something guests appreciate. There is a parking pass for a private beach (in season also) and it's a pleasant 15-minute walk into Woods Hole Village, to the beaches, and to the science institutes (NOAA, NEFMC, MBL, WHOI).

A perfectly relaxing stay!
We enjoyed a lovely peaceful week at this beautiful, quiet home. The house was supplied with everything we could ever need from super comfy pillows to kitchen tools to beach chairs. We spent many hours out on the deck gazing at the beautiful Japanese inspired garden to the woods beyond and watching the wild birds at the feeder. Thank you Virginia for a week we won’t forget.
Private, peaceful getaway
This is a gem of a house close enough to walk to Woods Hole & Nobska Beach (1 mile) but on a lot tucked away with great privacy and beautiful gardens. It’s very peaceful to sit out on the deck to read or have meals. The house is clean, decorated nicely, and very well-equipped for cooking, entertaining, beach-going. There’s not too much traffic around like there is on most of the Cape. We will definitely be going back!
We had a a wonderful time at the house. It was a peaceful respite. Virginia was wonderful in communicating with us and was very responsive to all queries.
Surprised that there is no A/C in July! Lots of fans made it tolerable though.
It’s mostly clean. The gardens are lovely and they are the best thing about this property. We had a few issues which the owner, Virginia addressed quickly.
We really enjoyed our stay on this beautiful property. The Zen garden was so lovely and peaceful.
We had an awesome family reunion while the granddaughters went to the Science School in Woods Hole. The location was perfect for the beach, downtown Woods Hole and the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. The house and very private grounds created a very warm, cozy experience.
Well kept house close to the beach
My family of five stayed for a weekend and enjoyed the stay. Close to Nabska beach and Wood’s Hole. The house is well appointed and the garden was a pleasant surprise.
Woods Hole is full of great things to do, for people of all ages: the Woods Hole Aquarium, the Marine Biological Laboratory Exhibit Store, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Exhibits and Store, the ferry landing for Martha's Vineyard, the beginning of the 15-mile Shining Sea Bike (and Hike) Way, the Woods Hole Library (with a perpetual book sale ongoing all year), the Nobska Lighthouse and Nobska and Stony Beaches.
