About the property

On NYC Bus Rt, 2 Minutes from Town, Wraparound Porch, Private Woods and Meadow

Named after Brigadoon, an enchanted place where life is simpler and easier, untouched by the worries of the modern world. You'll understand why when you stay in our peaceful, serene, fully renovated 1850s farmhouse, which is set far back from the main road leading to and from Woodstock, NY. The best of all worlds, it's about 2 minutes from the center of town, and right on the bus route from NYC. But sitting on the front porch overlooking a giant secluded meadow, you can enjoy total privacy from noise and neighbors, and have a complete relaxing country experience. It's a 5-minute walk to gourmet streamside dining at the Bear and Little Bear, and a 5-minute walk to Sunfrost Farms vegetable market and The Cub Market, where you can also enjoy breakfast and The New York Times. This house is perfect for skiers (Hunter, Belleayre, and Windham nearby), festival goers (Film Festival, Bookfest, Comedy Festival, Luthiers, Festival of the Voice, etc.), music lovers or recording groups, and families looking for a charming Woodstock getaway or couples seeking a total romantic country experience. The house is warm in winter, cool in summer, and full of light and open space. It's uncluttered, classic wood and white, and supremely serene. Visitors often spot deer, the occasional black bear, foxes, turkeys, and hawks in the nearby woods and meadow while sipping a cocktail at dusk on the front porch. Amenities include Weber gas bbq grill, outdoor fireplace for marshmallow roasting, giant clawfoot bathtub, washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, central air-conditioning, business center with printer and fax, free wifi, and cable TV with HBO.

Historic Woodstock is a shopper's haven, with some of the best stores for clothes, gifts, crafts, toys, books, and art. Woodstock is also world famous for its music, and there are several venues right in town and nearby that regularly feature famous recording artists and great dancing. The Hudson Valley is rich with eco-tourism activities--hiking, tubing, biking, snow activities, and of course our local mountain-stream-fed swimming holes. Art museums, HITS horse shows in nearby Saugerties, antiquing, tag sales, local theatre, and many other activities are here to enrich and entertain. Don't forget to check local listings for all the fun festivals in our region, such as the famous Garlic Festival, BookFest, Woodstock Film Festival, the Luthiers Festival, and many more. You can't get bored in Woodstock,. no matter what time of year you visit.

Norman Rockwell come to life, with an artistic and modern flair

  • 5 of 5

We had family coming in for an event, and rented the famhouse for the occasion. When we went to look at it, WOW! this is a perfectly restored early farmhouse overlooking a seven acre meadow (rare in town, there's a reason they call it "Woods-tock). So calm and beautiful, with a mighty hill and forest with large trees to the rear. We fell in love with the house immediaely, and decided to take it for ourselves, handing our own house over to the family.

Maybe it's the idyllic setting, maybe it's the lovely renovation and decor (featuring local artwork of high quality), maybe it's that feeling of seclusion and isolation while at the same time being only walking distance from the Bear Cafe and Cub deli, maybe it's the delightful large gas fireplace, whatever, this house is just magical. We felt relaxed just walking inside. We joked about selling our house and moving in here.

Woodstock is cool, filled with clothing and food boutiques and restaurants of every description. Since we know the town, we decided to act as though we were strangers, seeing it with fresh eyes. From the vantage point of this lovely farmhouse and farmfield, we saw there is a lot of appeal, eaven for someone new to the area. We walked over to the Bearsville Theater to a show. We took the family on a hike up Overlook Mountain. We window-shopped and snacked the days away.

Then home to three totally comfy beds, really nice linens and quilts, quiet and lovely space (ample space, not cramped), views of the hawks circling in the sun. Honestly, we can't imagine wanting more, and we even went home with some ideas for improving the experience of our own house. We'll go back to the farmhouse---and Gail's charming hostessing---anytime we get and chance.

There was a group of 4 of us.

We really enjoyed staying the house, we loved the cozy beds, firepit and the sunflower market down the road.

The host is really gracious and helpful.

We will visit again during the summer
