It's a triple...
Yep, it's Year Three for us and a wonderful third week in August stay at Kelly Point Cottage!
We love seeing what the improvements that Laurie and Dax have added, and this year, it was more landscaping, a wonderful stone pathway that courses across the front of the property and around the fire pit.
While this year's weather was a little more overcast than in our past two stays, it gave us plenty of time for reading, taking advantage of wonderful, wild Maine blueberries served up as pies and pancake breakfasts, and for this year's haul of sea glass!
Also made a beautiful drive via 191 in Machias up to St. George, NB for a great lobster roll lunch at Ossie's and for smoked salmon from Wolfhead Smokers for us and friends--delish!
Again, a fabulous stay, love the hospitality, and hope that Dax recovers from his surgery fast so he cn get back to Jonesport soon. See you next year!
What a view!
We just returned from a wonderful week at this property. It is lovely inside and out. The interior is clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The view is spectacular. Each day, we went on an outing-Acadia, Campobello Island, local sights-but when we returned home, pure relaxation awaited. From inside the house and on the deck, you look out at the ocean and small islands. Every day, we awoke to the sounds of lobster boats and each evening we fell asleep to the sounds of waves. Spectacular!
Peace and quiet - away from it all
This place is beautiful. If you are looking for a little peace and quiet away from it all - this is your own little piece of heaven. The views are amazing - you could spend your whole time on the porch enjoying the sunrise, lobster boats, eagles and tides coming in and out. There is not much more relaxing than a camp fire at dusk overlooking the ocean with the sounds of the tides in the background. The kids spent hours scouring the beach for sea glass and left with bags full!
We did most of our meals in the well stocked kitchen but if you want to venture out for dinner don't miss Bayview takeout in Jonesport and Helen's in Machias (30 min). The beds are comfortable and the home is very clean and well set up for our family of 6. Laurie is an outstanding host and covered everything we needed to know as soon as we arrived - with very helpful recommendations when we asked.
We used this great home as our base to see West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec (little over an hour - don't miss the Coastal Trail on a clear day while you are there), hike the Great Wass Preserve (20 min), hike Otter falls and Highland trails in Columbia Falls (25 min), and Acadia (1.5 hours).
We left relaxed and spoiled by all the beauty. Thanks for sharing your place and making this a great vacation for our family. We would return in a heartbeat.
Piece of paradise!
Our vacation was AMAZING! The property is breathtaking! We did a few activities in area but could’ve stayed at the house and our vacation would have been more than plentiful. Lauri’s hospitality was fantastic! All the accommodations are there if needed. Just speechless when asked about our stay! Most beautiful!
So glad we exceeded your expectations! That's our goal! Hope you come back again... You were a great group!
Thanks again, Lauri
Beautiful and private location. Excellent amenities and very sweet renters. My 2 year old son, husband, dog and I had a wonderful time exploring the local area as well as the beach right out back. It was also very lovely falling asleep to the ocean waves. The view is spectacular. I would absolutely rent again.
Good spot to get away from it all
We had a great relaxing week at Lauri and Dax’s home. This is a perfect spot for families, and Lauri has recently installed blackout curtains in the master bedroom and the office/third bedroom which we used for our toddler’s naps. The kitchen is outfitted with literally everything you will need. We cooked most of our meals at the house, including lobsters and crabs on the outside cooker setup and steaks in the grill. When we unknowingly let a bread tie fall in the insinkerator, Lauri was over with someone to fix it pronto! Great communication and highly recommended. Note that Jonesport is fishing town, and as such you will not find a huge selection of restaurants or grocery stores with variety. On the upside you will also not find the tourists from Bar Harbor. This appealed to us. You will have to drive 30 minutes plus to the Hannafords in Machias to get grocery variety. Your view is of the ocean and you’ll wake up to the seagulls and lobster boats. We miss it already! The only thing we don’t miss are the mosquitos. Pack your bug spray. Don’t not let this deter you from their beautiful house by the sea.
Enjoy this quaint Lobster fishing village in down east Maine. This is old Maine at it's finest. This area is within easy driving distance to Canada's Campobello Island, and the Bar Harbor region for sightseeing in Acadia National Park. It is just a few miles across the bridge to Beal's and Great Wass Island where a nature preserve for hiking is located. Enjoy the best nature has to offer. Get your fresh Maine lobster at the local lobster co-op. Relax and enjoy the best of all worlds having the coastal experience without all the tourists and traffic! Jonesport is the largest lobstering area on the East Coast. It offers a small town experience but has dining in town, a post office, gas stations, and grocery store for all your needs. Machias is 15 miles up the road for additional supplies and restaurants.
Other Activities: Birdwatching, 1.5 hrs to Canada, Harbor nearby, Quaint Lobster fishing village
Golf: Just 15 minutes away in Jonesboro there is a golf course. Also in Roque Bluffs there is another golf course (30 minutes away). Enjoy golfing in the Maine cool air.
