About this property

Blue Gill Lakehouse | Hot Tub, 5 Bedrooms

Full house rental, 5 bedroom (6 beds + 1 crib)/3 bathroom, hot tub, and central A/C! 1st floor patios and 2nd floor deck, fire-pit, lightning fast WiFi, short drive to town, wineries, Traverse City adventures! *ABOUT THE PROPERTY* If you are looking for a big and comfy house on the water in Traverse City, here it is! 160 ft of natural frontage on Spider Lake and 15 minutes from downtown Traverse City's shops, restaurants, beaches, and activities. The house has an open floor plan with two living areas overlooking our quiet cove, an ample yard for relaxing outdoors, and 5 bedrooms/3 full bathrooms to fit your entire group. And just in case some of your group want a little privacy: the first floor is a "mother-in-law" suite with two of the bedrooms, a living area opening onto the patio, a kitchenette, bathroom, and a separate entrance. A total of 2000 finished sq ft is all yours. All bedding - sheets, blankets, pillows plus bath towels are provided, but bring your beach towels and bath supplies. Please also bring crib sheets. *ABOUT SPIDER LAKE* Spider Lake is a 459 Acre All Sports Lake with big sections for water-skiing and tubing, small coves for fishing (like what's in front of our place!), and a couple islands and sandbars that are good for swimming. 'Fast boating' is allowed only between 11:00 am - 7: 30 pm, so the morning and evening are quiet. Many of the coves are no-wake zones all day and great for fishing any time. With lots of bays and coves, you can find somewhere new to explore every day! Use our kayaks & canoe to access the main part of the lake, or if you are interested in doing some swimming or water-sports on the lake, we recommend renting a boat and launching it from the public boat launch on the south side of the lake. PLEASE NOTE: Our cove has lots of vegetation and is not suitable for swimming. Fishing is great ... swimming not so much! *SWIMMING AT THE NEARBY BEACHES* If you don't have a boat and are looking to swim while you are here, there are plenty of beautiful beaches just a short drive away! We recommend West Bay Beach & Clinch Park - both in downtown Traverse City, as well as the State Park at Mitchell Creek (1265 US-31). All with beautiful, sandy beach and lots of restaurants nearby! *RELAXING WINE TOURS* Traverse City is known for its wineries! If you drive up Old Mission or Leelanau Peninsula, there are several wineries to stop by every few miles. Take your own car (& a designated driver!) and have a leisurely drive, OR book a private or join-in group tour! Many wine tour companies pick-up and drop-off at vacation rentals around the area - we recommend a few in our Welcome Book, which you'll find on the coffee table at check-in, or you can reach out to us before check-in to help plan your trip! *WINTER SPORTS* The Winter Sports VASA Singletrack includes more about 10 miles of groomed trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, biking or running, and can be accessed just a few miles from the property. The Michigan DNR Designated Snowmobile Trails can also be accessed just a few miles from the home. *WELCOME TO TRAVERSE CITY!* If you have any questions at all about your stay with us, please reach out and we would be happy to help plan your trip to Traverse City! ------- We ask that you not smoke or have pets at the property. Full-house rental - the house is all yours during your stay. You'll be given a door code before check-in and a welcome packet of area information will be waiting for you! If you need anything during your stay, we are available to assist. Our cove has lots of vegetation and is not suitable for swimming, but there are a couple kayaks as well as a canoe at the home which you can take out on the main lake! If you are interested in beaches/swimming, Traverse City is known for its downtown beaches! We are about a 10-15 min drive from several public beaches, including West End Beach, Clinch Park, and Mitchell Creek State Park. If you are looking to rent a boat while you’re here, we recommend one-day-rentals where the rental company drops off and picks up at the launch. Because our cove has a narrow inlet and there’s a bit more vegetation, many rentals don’t allow you to dock here. One day rentals do allow you to explore more than one lake in the area! Torch Lake and Lake Leelanau are both great options to explore after a day on Spider Lake. We are also about a 20-30 minute drive from the many wineries of Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula! Wine tour companies can often pickup from the home as well. If you’d like some recommendations let us know! Grace McDonald Park is just down the road from our house. It is a 42 acre parcel with baseball field, tennis courts, basketball courts, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. It also has a pavilion area with picnic tables, a sledding hill, hiking trails, and playground equipment. It is open from dawn until dusk. Our home is within a short drive of downtown Traverse City where there are seasonal festivals including the National Cherry Festival, the Traverse City Film Festival, and more! We ask that you not smoke or have pets in our house.

Absolutely perfect
Myself and adult daughters truly enjoyed our yearly weekend get away. There was a lot of thought put into this rental. It was extremely clean and comfortable. Communication was quick. We would love to go back when we get a chance. The only downside….we couldn’t stay longer. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise.

Bachlorette weekend
Clean property on the water. Owners very quick to always respond to any concerns. I would just recommend that you put that there is a pull out couch, which makes the place big enough to sleep 12 and have the linens for the pull couch readily available otherwise this was a very nice affordable place to stay for a large group.

Great memories are made here!
It was a great birthday weekend getaway with my friends! The home is spacious and very clean. It was an easy check-in and the hosts were responsive. All the beds were comfortable and the hot tub was amazing! We had kayaks and canoes available for use and a fire pit for s'mores in the evening. There wasn't a lot of water pressure in the showers, but the water stayed hot. This is a "must save" home for future vacations.

Quiet Spot Near Traverse Cory
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the house, nestled off the beaten path and surrounded by other homes along the meandering lake. We fell for the mama duck and her little ones. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets. An easy car ride into Traverse City and along the lake inlets. Just a nice place to stay.

About the host

Hi there! My husband and I recently moved home to Traverse City after living downstate for the last ten years. While he is a born-and-raised Traverse City kid, I am originally from the UP, so we know a ton about northern Michigan!

Our favorite thing about renting our house is using our local knowledge to help our guests plan their activities and get the most out of their vacation. Traverse City is such a beautiful place to vacation and there is so much to do here. Upon check-in, we'll have a booklet of information for you with tips about the area! We would also love to help you plan your stay, so feel free to get in touch!

Why they chose this property

After ten busy years living the city-life downstate, we moved back home in 2017 to be closer to family and friends. We purchased this home initially because of its natural beauty and private lakefront. After living here for a year and finding out we have a baby on the way, we decided to downsize and rent out this gorgeous home.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

What makes this property unique

In the late afternoon, the sun streams through our large living room windows and sliding glass doors, giving you a beautiful sunset view over the lake. In the first floor living room, open up both screen doors for a breezy afternoon nap.

This cozy lakefront home offers a peaceful setting for a family get-together or your large group's outing.
