Why Catherine Shaer or George Whisstock chose Rockland
Although it was in rather a sad state, we fell in love with the house at first sight, and couldn't resist the lure of restoring this gracious historic old sea-captain's house to it's earlier glory.

AMAZING SURPRISE--PICTURES DON'T DO IT JUSTICE
What a lovely, quaint, warm, and functional home. It was so nice and in a great location. There is absolutely everything you need in this home. The detail and furnishings are beautiful. The fireplace was such a treat. We loved it so much that we wanted to come back to the house rather than go out at night becuase it was so homey and fun. I recommend this highly and will be returning whenever i am in Rockland. I think the home is so much better than the photos. They do not do it justice..
Lovely and Well-Placed Apartment
This comfortable, well-stocked apartment is a gem. It's spacious and warmly decorated with pretty antiques and art. It has comfy beds, beautiful hardwood floors, nice linens and plenty of china, pots and pans, and appliances to make staying in for meals easy. The washer and dryer are a tad wonky and a bit noisy but they did the trick. We had trouble getting the TV to work properly but George was over in a second to get us back on track. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you!
Property as described. Cathy and George were available if needed. Great location. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable bed.
The unit is very clean and cottage like. It has everything you need when being away from home. We stayed in the 2 bedroom 2 bath unit and there was plenty of space for us. Catherine and her husband were right there if we needed anything and not there when we were just out sitting on the deck enjoying our coffee and girl talk. We started our visit at the lighthouse a couple of miles away (thank you for the recommendation Catherine) and continued on from town to town to see the sights. It was nice at the end of the day to sit back and enjoy the cool breeze outside. Ok we are from Texas so anything under 90 in the summer is awesome! Thanks Catherine for having my sister and our friend stay in your home. I am ready to come back again.
Grrat home with so much character and charm.
This is a beautiful home, with all the necessities and more. We stayed here with 2 couples and were very comfortable. I would highly this home to anyone looking for a home in this area.
Wonderfully Restored Old House
This was a delight to see in light of the age of the house that had so carefully been restored for guests. There were many thoughtful touches to the house along with a dining room and living room in addition to the bedrooms and baths. The location was perfect for us for our two day stay in Rockland. Downtown Rockland is a must-see along with a visit to the breakwater with a lighthouse at the end.
Rockland is an exciting small city full of restaurants, pubs, wine bars, art galleries, renowned museums, and shops of all descriptions, at the same time retaining its historical ambiance. A concert hall and a restored 1920's movie theater complete the downtown.
The grand natural harbor, with its exceptional breakwater and lighthouse, is dotted with pleasure yachts and sailboats and the largest windjammer fleet in the world. Yet Rockland still has a working harbor with a commerical fishing and lobster boat fleet. A State Ferry operates daily to the off-shore islands. Rockland is called “The Lobster Capital Of the World”, and 'The Gateway to Penobscot Bay.'
Walk out on the breakwater (⅞ mile) to the lighthouse at the end – great views over the harbor and out over the ocean to the outlying islands. Or take a walk on the harbor boardwalk and explore the activity in a real working harbor.
There are two excellent golf courses nearby – Rockland Public course and Samoset.
As well as the famous Lobster festival there are many others during the year – a Boat Show, Blues Festival, Jazz festival to name a few. And several regional fairs – Common Ground Fair, Union Fair and Windsor Fair being among the most popular.
There are working vineyards, farms and farmers markets to visit and many cultural and artisanal activities to see or take part in.
There’s no place like Penobscot Bay for walking and exploring, fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking and rock climbing. And in the evenings in Rockland, rejoin society, and eat out, go to a concert or a film.
Rockland has something to offer everybody, young and old. Come and stay at the Zadoc F Brewster House and see for yourself!
