About Susan and Ben
We both love all kinds of outdoor pursuits: sea kayaking, biking, hiking, skiing, etc. We're particularly drawn to the ocean and immediately knew this property on Lummi Island was our dream home. We look forward to sharing the magic of the Salish Sea and our home with you!
Susan and Ben purchased this House in 2017
Why Susan and Ben chose Lummi Island
We've been coming to Lummi Island for years for kayaking and bicycling adventures. When we actually started to look for property in the San Juans, Lummi Island appealed to us the most because it offered everything we desired—and was super easy to get to. We fell in love with this old farmhouse and have spent many months renovating it. We're most proud of the beautiful wooden floors, discovered after we tore out the old masonite and linoleum to reveal the original vintage fir floors, harvested from island trees! It was a labor of love to restore them to a useable state, but very much worth the effort.
What makes this House unique
From the BeachFarm's deck or any number of picture windows, you'll smell the salt air, hear the big ships rumble by, and see the expanse of the Salish Sea roll out before you. You'll love exploring the old fruit orchard out back and wandering down to the beach to have a picnic at the seaside table, or hopping in your kayaks and scooting around in Legoe Bay. You'll hear the owls and coyotes at night and see stars like never before. It's all here and it's all good!

Beach Farm Family Vacation
We loved the Beach Farm. It was clean, spacious and a great location. The views were breathtaking. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and looking at the water. We enjoyed our time on the beach, too. We took our kids and grandkids on vacation and the beach Farm was the perfect place for us. Some of the family saw a whale one morning. Would definitely recommend this location for a relaxing, fun location!
This was a great place for our family vacation. Lots of bedrooms to spread out. Kitchen was cute and well stocked with supplies/utensils. Beach was close but not close enough that we worried about kids getting into water trouble if we weren’t watching them like a hawk. Basically it was just what we were looking for.
House exactly the same as we remembered it. Weather a little more mixed. If you want peace and quiet with excellent views of shipping traffic and the the San Juan’s this is the place.
The Beach Farm Home is a wonderful place to relax.
I had six friends from Arizona, Utah and California for our annual reunion. Several remarked about the quietness of Lummi Island. We all immediately felt comfortable in the home. Those who stayed for the entire five days and commented that they were not ready to leave on the final morning. We did some sightseeing, one ran on the quiet roads, we watch a barred owl hunting in the wetland, four deer visited us daily and we cooked our own meals in the spacious kitchen and enjoyed dinner at the Beach Store Cafe. Our stay cost about half of what we would have paid at the Bellingham hotel we were considering. The Beach Farm Home is an excellent choice for a retreat or family gathering. Five Stars!
Thank you for choosing the BeachFarm for your annual reunion! It sounds like you and your friends tapped into much of what Lummi Island has to offer. We hope you come back for more island magic!
Wonderful stay in a beautiful spot
We had a wonderful time at the Beach Farm. Susan sent us tons of helpful information before our stay and responded quickly to any concerns or questions I had. Pictures do not do their home justice: waking up each morning to a beautiful view of the bay, surrounding islands, fishing boats, forest, and fields around the house was one of the highlights of our trip. The house was very clean and cozy, and the kitchen had everything we needed and was great for cooking together and hanging out. Overall cannot recommend the Beach Farm highly enough and I hope we'll be able to return again.
Ben and I are so glad to hear that you and your group had a fantastic time at the BeachFarm! Your party was our first official "Dry Dock" booking, so you are living proof that Dry Dock on Lummi Island is totally doable, and with a little prior information and some planning, MOST enjoyable! We hope you are indeed able to return again!
Everything we hoped for!
We are a family of five with a wide age range. My boys have widely different interests and hate being crammed together in a hotel room, so vacationing has become difficult. As we closed out a busy summer I wanted to find a getaway that would give everyone a chance to relax and maybe even connect as a family before school started. The Beach Farm was perfect! Plenty of space indoors and out, comfy bedrooms, and everyone found something to enjoy. Among the things tried by at least one family member: wandering the orchard trail; nature photography; picking blackberries & baking muffins; riding bikes around the island; bird watching; exploring nature preserves; enjoying the hard-earned view at the top of Lummi Peak trail; building driftwood structures at the beach; searching out perfect rocks and shells; skipping stones; whittling driftwood; relaxing on the deck. We all loved seeing the resident deer, we saw 6 in all - the three fawns were the most exciting, especially the shy brother who we only spotted once, but we saw the adolescent male and the doe with two of the fawns a few times and the patriarch of the clan seemed to be keeping an eye on us, we saw him a few times every day!
We ate out twice but mostly made use of the nicely appointed kitchen. While we brought food with us, we forgot a few things and the Islander store was good for milk and drinks, as well as ice cream treats after a long walk. The kitchen table provided room for everyone to sit and a great view if you managed to get a seat across from the window. Thanks to the games provided upstairs we now have a new family favorite - we tried out the UNO game and I was thrilled to find something my 4-year-old can follow that doesn't bore my 15-year-old. Win-Win!
We loved our trip to Lummi Island and especially the Beach Farm itself, we really hope to return and explore more of the island. Thank you to Susan and Ben for sharing their lovely home.
Ben and I are so delighted that your family enjoyed the BeachFarm on so many levels. It took us a year to get the home and property ready and our vision was to have families use it to connect or reconnect and make lifelong memories. It warms our hearts to read how your family did just that! We hope you are able to return some day.
