This beautiful Santa Fe style casita is nestled on 5 acres in the Sonoran Desert, adjacent to Saguaro National Park West and Tucson Mountain Park. Enjoy the sunsets and endless views. About Cynthia Lester

We moved from Santa Cruz CA to Tucson in 2000 when my husband retired. I am able to work from home...what an office I am fortunate to have...all of nature! We built the casita in 2007 to be able to share with family and friends. Since then Luminosa has become a place many feel is their own and return every year. And we love that! Now we have created a lovely little suite we are calling Saguaro Suite so others can also come visit . Please check the brand new listing on VRBO: 924322. I called our move trading ocean for sky!

Cynthia Lester purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Cynthia Lester chose Arizona

The beauty of this property is that it is nestled between the Mountain Parks, the Tohono O Odham reservation and a mitigated wildlife corridor. We drive through the mountain park for "city life" and live in beauty and quiet when home. And our neighbors all feel the same way about how special and rare our area is. Even people "in town" don't know about the homes in this area.

What makes this cottage unique

Everything you need for your well being is right here. You just bring your groceries...nature takes it course.

Perfect property for privacy, relaxation, desert birds and wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

Cynthia provides a cozy, perfect-size casita that has everything needed for a great stay. Comfortable bed, quiet, cool nights for sleeping. As avid birdwatchers, we loved seeing over 18 species of birds from the back patio. Photography opportunities were everywhere we looked! The pool was a joy on those 90 degree days. Casita Luminosa is a lovely place for those who want to experience the peace of the desert. Had we chosen to explore Tucson, it's just over the pass. We hope to return to Luminosa again!!

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 15 days and enjoyed the quietness and open space surrounded by the natural desert life not to mention the wonderful sunsets. The casita had everything we needed for a long term stay and we were able to cook in for breakfast and dinner and preparing lunches for our outings. Wifi was perfect and I watched shows with bluetooth headset so my wife could continue to enjoy the quiet sounds of the desert. If you wanted, you could just walk outside and explore the desert but you are very close to Saguaro West National Park and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (you might want to purchase a membership if you plan to visit multiple times which we did) one of the best visits anywhere. We are not night life folks so we were happy to visit the various museums and art galleries in Tucson and then come home to prepare a meal and enjoy the sunset. Driving back and forth to Tuscon via Gates Pass use McCain Loop which only adds 1 extra mile on this solitary and scenic route. We did separate day trips to Mt Lemon, Saguaro East NP, Sabino Canyon (ride up for $10 cash only and walk down if you like or hop back on the tram), Madera Canyon, town of Tubac (local arts/craft) and nearby Tumacacori National Historic Site. Easy driving everywhere and pretty much stress free. Enjoyed time poolside as well. We enjoyed the local wildlife around the casita, various birds including the Great Horned Owl, Coyote and Cottontails. Saw over 60 specie of birds during our stay with over 25 lifers for us incidental birders meaning we simply let them visit with us wherever we went. Listen for baby doves nesting in the cactus very close to the casita. Cynthia is a gracious host, and made herself available if needed and has kept this casita up to the 5 star category it deserves. This is definitely a wonderful place to stay, relax/enjoy and use as a staging area to explore the desert, nearby Tucson and surrounding beautiful areas. We hope to be back soon! Cheers!

This is our 3rd visit to the Casita. The sunsets are wonderful. It is private yet close to Tucson. The Casita has everything that you would want in this beautiful get-a-way. Cynthia is a wonderful and gracious host. You won't regret staying here. Within minutes of the Desert Museum and Park Visitors Center. Hiking trails abound.
