You’ll feel like you’re a million miles away, but we are nestled in the Village of Indianhead ski hill, so the lodge and ski hill are just a few blocks away. We are also a short distance from Blackjack, Big Powderhorn and Whitecap Mountain so you can ski a different hill everyday. After skiing, if you still have the energy, you can enjoy our private toboggan run located amongst the pine trees on our property. There is plenty of room to park your snowmobiles and trailers on our large driveway or in our cul de sac location. Also in our backyard is a 18 foot tall carved Native American Statue carved for us by Peter Toth. Peter has carved a statue for every state in the United States in honor of the Native Americans and was featured in People Magazine. You’ll feel like you are in your own private estate when you stay at the Wildernest Chalet.

Amazing location, clean and spacious chalet
We were looking for a place close to Indianhead because we have little kids and wanted to be able to have some adults stay back during nap time or be able to travel to the hill easily throughout the day. You can’t beat the location, it was very clean, the hosts were extremely responsive and kind. We had a blast using the toboggan run too.

Ski Chalet - perfect for families
It was a great place. We loved the cozy 1960.'s vibe and the space of the place. The toboggan run was a hit with our kids 11,9,7. Communication was great with Jennifer. WE loved our stay and can't wait to be back.

Wonderful stay at the Wildernest
We really enjoyed our stay at the Wildernest (lower unit) during our first trip to the UP for skiing. The unit was very clean and spacious and nicely decorated. The location is very picturesque and was perfect with Indianhead so close by. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to doing so in the future.

Great for families with kids and friends
We wanted a long weekend stay, close to the ski hill. We also needed room for teenagers and wanted to connect with our friends. This property allowed both families to have space yet socialize together! A short drive for cross country skiing as well. We will be back!

About the host

Host profile image
We had been going to Cascade and Granite Peak(when it was Rib Mountain) and one day we decided to drive another 2 hours to Indianhead because we kept hearing how great it was. I'll never forget our first experience-they had just gotten a ton of fresh powder and the snow was so fluffy and so deep that we couldn't believe we were in the Midwest! Our kids grew up learning to ski and snowboard at Indianhead. My husband has a very strong connection to the Native Americans so our house reflects a Native American theme. He was instumental in getting an Indian Statue carved for city of Wakefield and we also have one in our backyard.

Why they chose this property

It's a winter wonderland! What else can I say-with the Lake effect snow from Lake Superior our area gets more snow than most places in the Upper Peninsula.

What makes this property unique

We have an 18 foot Indian Statue in our backyard and our own toboggan run! Most of the people who review our property will mention how much fun they had on the toboggan run with their kids. We are at the end of a cul de sac so it is a perfect location for snowmobilers and their sleds. Plenty of room for parking so you are never boxed in.
