Perfect family getaway within walking distance to all Avalon has to offer! Whether going to the beach, going to one of Avalon's great eateries, shopping, golfing, boating, snorkeling/diving, parasailing, or just sightseeing, this is the vacation home for you! In March 2010, replaced bedroom furniture, pillow top mattresses, duvets, and pillows!!!

A beautiful mediterranean style home, with a warm and modern beach style interior. The master bedroom is large with a king size bed (goose down bedding), cable TV/VCR, cozy (and romantic) gas fireplace, and a deck off the back. The second upstairs is great for kids or additional guests. With a trundle bed (bunk-style with a twin on top, full below, and a pull-out full-all with goose down bedding.) This room also has a TV/VCR. The shared bath has dual lavatories, beautiful porcelain tile shower with a jacuzzi tub. The washer and dryer are also located on this floor.

The lower floor has a beautiful and easy to use full kitchen with granite countertops. The living area has a large TV complete with DVD/VCR/STEREO/CD and a leather queen sofa sleeper. Let's not forget a fireplace for the cool winter night or just to warm up in the evening after a day at the beach! The bedroom on this floor has a queen size bed (again, all down), TV/VCR, and a private full bath with tub and shower. The rear deck has a built in gas barbeque, patio set, and outside shower. Everything you need for your Catalina Island vacation!

There are so many things going on on Catalina Island!

There is a marathon in March, an Art Festival in September, Jazz Festival in October, and so much more! Give us a call!

we have stayed in this rental the last two years and it is perfect for our group....the Sunday to Sunday works really well for us...it is much easier to get a mooring for our boat early sunday am...property has everything we need as we bring our own beach equipment....Amy is easy and great to work with as well.

Where do you live?

Great Location, quiet retreat

We had a great time at the Sumner condo, we have stayed at many of the hotels in Catalina and it was nice to have more space this time. It was SUPER HOT this visit but the ceiling fans provided plenty of air to cool us off at night. There were plenty of towels and supplies (bring your own soap for showers) and when we couldn't figure out the ceiling fan upstairs the owners were quick to tell us how to use it. It's close enough to easily walk to town and far enough that you don't get late night noise. Thanks Amy!

not what it seems

Ok so we came out to celebrate a friends birthday for the weekend. Let's start with the people the have cleaning their units suck!! The floors were so filthy you had to where shoes the entire time. The grill looked like it had not been cleaned since last summer. No tools for grill. There was ants in the down stairs bedroom. No A/C or fans to help with smell. Bring your own supplies cause it lacked. The towels smell like vomit. The rooms were soo small you could not Walk around the beds without hitting the bestpost. And to top it off we kept asking for the house keeper to bring us towels cause they did not have enough for eight adults. We were told we could use the golf cart for a trip to the store that didn't happen either the person we called never returned our call. The ice in the freezer smelled. It sems it had been sitting in the freezer for asometime. I don't think the filter has ever been changed. The owners must not ever stay in the units cause if the had. They would take some pride in the property. They really need to fix the central air and get some new towels. The one somewhat positive note I can make is...it looks like they a are working on upgrades. We will not be coming back to this place.

Owner's Response: My house cleaners are great! This was a group of girls that had a full on PARTY! The police were called to the property during their stay and my caretaker was OVERWHELMED! THE HOME IS NOT ADVERTISED NOR DOES IT COME WITH A GOLF CART! Don't know where this comes from. Upon the guests departure both my caretaker and maid called me to let me know the condition of the home. Vomit all over the towels as well as all over the bathroom. I believe these ladies feared they would not be receiving their deposit back, which did NOT occur. In other words, review out of fear?

Convenient and cosy, but needs attention

We enjoyed our stay at this convenient and cosy home and appreciated the communicative owner, but encountered some major issues, which are probably related to the current property manager. We stayed in the back unit of the house.

As there is no AC in this unit, we thought there would at least be fans. There is a single ceiling fan in the living room downstairs, which did not work until we personally replaced the batteries at our own expense. Dead batteries became a theme with just about every remote control in the house.

By the end of our first night, after we had bought over $300 in groceries, we discovered the fridge was HOT to the touch. You could not rest your hand on the fridge without burning it. Nothing was staying cold, and we contacted the owner, who got back to us the next day with the following information: "that happened last summer when it was hot."

If the fridge doesn't work when it's "hot" (it was in the 80s) then the fridge is broken! We lost all of our food for the rest of the weekend and were offered no solution to this issue. We had no working fridge the entire weekend of our stay. This was incredibly disappointing and upsetting and we were forced to spend additional money to eat out the rest of our stay.

A spa was advertised on this listing, but several signs and the state of the spa implied it was not for guest use. It was covered in dust and clearly hadn't been used in ages. There was a big sign on the balcony that said we could not use it.

There was no additional toilet paper or paper towels in the house. We called the owner and she sent the manager over with more materials, but for 8 people/2 bathrooms, we got 2 rolls of toilet paper and 1 roll of paper towels.

We had a spill and there were no cleaning supplies/brooms in the house. The floor was covered in broken glass, and when we emailed the owner, she seemed surprised that there was no broom in the closet. There was literally no cleaning supplies to speak of and we were forced to wear shoes in the house for the remainder of our stay.

What this house doesn't tell you about is to get to the back house you have to SQUEEZE down this little side alleyway (all the way on the right side of this pic.) If the windows from the front unit are open, it is almost impossible to squeeze by to get to the back house over an obstacle course of wet towels and flip flops.

We did not let these issues ruin our vacation but we would be hesitant to recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: OK, there are two ceiling fans, one being in the living area and one being in the master. We all in Southern California have been suffering from this heat. When the guests arrived the fridge was in defrost mode. I told them it will cool down. Spoke to them that evening and they informed me that everything was fine and it had cooled down. If that were to fail, I would have provided them with a back up solution. A spa advertised? The tub in the master is a spa tub, no jacuzzi is advertised. If you are at the property, you will see a jacuzzi on the back deck, which IS NOT ADVERTISED, as it has been there since we lived there and there is currently no way to get it out! We provide two rolls of paper towels and four rolls of toilet paper, its a home, not a hotel. Most guests find four is enough and if need be simply go the grocery store and get more. I have never had a guest tell me they had to "squeeze" down the side of the house, lol.

Well Appointed Modern Home in Great Avalon Location

Avalon is full of charming beach bungalows, but many are quite old and small. These two attached 3BR/2BA homes are well designed and offer modern conveniences and spacious (by Avalon standards) public living areas in a central location with easy access to both the waterfront and the golf course/botanical garden.

The owner Amy is very friendly and helpful in providing tips to make your stay on Catalina as enjoyable as possible. She knows most of the owners of local businesses so she can help you choose the just the right restaurant, activities and shops to suit your tastes and needs.

We had a fantastic stay over Labor Day weekend with a large family spread out in three different homes within a couple blocks of each other. Upgrades have been made to furniture in the house and updates/repairs are planned. We didn't cook much but the large kitchen appeared generally well stocked. While there was a lot of dirt on the deck off the upstairs bedroom during our visit due to construction of a new home next door we could see it would be a nice place to sit when the construction ends. Since there was a heat wave during our stay, we had to open all the windows and run fans at night (and it was still hot) but that seems common for most homes without A/C in usually temperate Avalon.

Overall, this home is a great place to stay, especially if you are looking for an extremely friendly host and modern, comfortable accommodations in the flat, historic area of Avalon within walking distance to everything.

A Sweet Little Duplex!

Rented the front unit for the wife's 50th birthday, so just the two of us in this three bedroom unit. As other reviewers have noted, quite comfy and well appointed. The nice surprise was the location far enough away from the noise on Crescent, yet a 3 minute walk if you want to get into the heart of it all. Amy is a real gem, and took very good care of us.

Suggest you bring a beach chair, and take a 15 minute stroll to the Descanso Beach Club and, of course the Zip Line. Easily grab dinner on the way back to the ranch...

For the comparable price of a hotel room, you get twice the value at this lovely little cottage. It was a palace for the two of us!
