About Margaret James
We purchased the property from our parents who owned the home for 50 years. We are both retired and hope to save this Victorian Estate for everybody forever. We appreciate your patronage.
Margaret James purchased this Estate in 2011
Why Margaret James chose Aberdeen
L. Frank Baum first described this house as amazing in 1889. He wrote about the parties held in this fine mansion on the hill in his newspaper, The Saturday Pioneer. While your rooms are just a small area of the home, you will treasure seeing the main hall, stairway and many stained glass windows. Hiking the grounds and enjoying the large veranda with views of deer, owls and countless other birds is a priceless retreat. We hope you will love your stay.
What makes this Estate unique
Rachel Funk, a former art student and now professional potter, gave a review that we hope is the experience you will have here. The best part of O-TE-LA is being here. Being amazed at the wonderful marvels in the house, hiking the rooms of the forest, sitting on the veranda, having a campfire under the stars. We hope you enjoy your stay.
Parties $5 per person per hour.

Charming vintage home with fascinating history and gracious hosts
This property is very unique, 130 years old, but reflecting many past eras. It has not been "made-over" yet which made it all the more real and interesting. The hosts were very helpful and fun to talk to, sharing lots of history about the house and the area. There is a tour of the house/castle which I missed due to time constraints but would be very interesting. The room was comfortable yet gave the feel of reality of the past. Hopefully the place will someday be an official historical site.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay back in time. Guests can enjoy researching us as Easton Castle property 73001736 on The National Register of Historic Places.
A nice place, but not some peoples style.
The process was simple enough. Had no negative issues. The room was a bit warm, but a great historical building.
Finally. Proof of global warming. For the first time since 1889, the castle now has a room with an air conditioner. Thank you for enjoying the bygone magic of the castle.
Could be cool
This property has the possibility to be an awesome location and experience. At the time of my stay a number of things would need to be done in order for me to consider this home for a return stay.
Our guests are usually either over the top enthusiastic or unwilling to stay. We offer those that can’t bring themselves to stay a 100 per cent cancellation. There are many reasons why we offer our rooms as safe comfortable budget alternatives to hotels. Pets, sharing the home with us, we do not provide food. While the antique nature of the home is very elegant, this is not a B&B, Resort or glam camp experience. Our current guest manages the AC in five federal buildings and has been with us 30 days and rebooked for 15 more. We hope to continue to serve those who enjoy what we do offer.
