Excellent economical stay in London

  • 5 of 5

We'd like to thank Paul for sharing the Woodpecker II with our family of 5. We spent five nights in January aboard his sailboat. The marina is in an excellent location with many shops and restaurants nearby. The marina facilities were clean and always accessible. The description is accurate, a renter should be comfortable with boating or perhaps RVing, because the living space is small (especially for our group of 5) - but we knew that going in. Everything we needed, umbrellas, tea, towels, sheets, heaters etc was available to us. I was able to contact Paul when one of the heaters wasn't working, and he immediately made sure we had a working one. You will not find a more affordable, novel lodging in such a great area of central London.

Unique way to visit London

  • 4 of 5

This is certainly a unique and memorable way to visit London. As long as you fully appreciate what you're in for, I highly recommend Woodpecker II.

The boat is very cozy (tight quarters) and using the public facilities (while they are clean), feels a bit like camping. If you are allergic to smoke or down feathers, I recommend you bring your own linens.

Ultimately, you can't beat the location or the price or the one-of-a-kind experience. St. Katharine's dock is a premier location with lots to see/do/eat and Paul is a great host. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks!

Owner's Response: While I understand the reference to down feathers I do provide other options and will review this immediately.....I am unsure about the reference to smoke as this is strictly a non smoking option in any circumstance and I will look into this immediately.....thank you for your grading and kind remarks though.....best wishes paul

Lovely stay in the heart of London

  • 4 of 5

Great and unique stay at St. Katherine's Dock, right at the Tower Bridge. Nice clean washroom facilities. Stayed for three nights and were very comfortable....not a five star hotel, but a great experience nonetheless. Lots of pubs and restaurants close by and discount card was a great moneysaver. Paul is a genial host and made sure we were comfortably settled before leaving us to enjoy the woodpecker II. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something a little different in a fantastic location!

Lovely experience! wonderful location!!!

  • 5 of 5

Family of 5 with 3 children. Very much enjoyed our experience. We did have fun and adventure all in a wonderful setting! In my opinion .. to fully enjoy the experience you must have had previous experience on sailing or staying in a small space. Would definitely come back and stay on the Woodpecker again! Thanks Paul for your nice welcome and advises. Regards sabrina

Novel Times

  • 3 of 5

The boat gets 5 stars for the novelty of experience, however, it is old & she does have a few testing quirks such as leaks in heavy rain that fall directly onto the person sleeping near them.

My only real complaint is the bathroom facilities at the end of the jetty, in that they were not very clean, smelt terrible & had broken shower heads, shower drains & missing toilet seats.

All that aside, we did have a fun & novel time & St. Katherine's docks is a great place to vacation with ample restaurants, coffee shops, night life & City sights to see & enjoy.

We would probably stay on the Woodpecker II again.

Great location, fun adventure

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with 3 of our children for 3 nights on our trip to London. The location was excellent: near a grocery store, Starbucks and many restaurants. We were close to the Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and the Tower Hill underground stop. Paul was a very good host. He added a refrigerator and a covering to extend the outdoor living space. Our favorite part was sitting out on the back of the boat at night drinking coffee and hot chocolate. We would stay here again.
