About Mary Porter-Riley

I have been a holiday home owner with HomeAway since 2010, and have always achieved five star reviews. I have recently changed properties to this lovely apartment in the beautiful historic centre of Royal Greenwich, having always loved the area. Myself and my husband, Kevin, live only twenty minutes away from the apartment, so are always on hand, if needed, to make sure our guests are comfortable.

Why Mary Porter-Riley chose England

Maritime Greenwich has joined a unique club of the most important and natural places on earth - special places which people are encouraged to visit and explore now and for generations to come.

The Royal Observatory, home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian line, is one of the most important historic scientific sites in the world. It was founded by Charles II in 1675 and is, by international decree, the official starting point for each new day, year and millennium (at the stroke of midnight GMT as measured from the Prime Meridian).

Visitors to the Observatory can stand in both the eastern and western hemispheres simultaneously by placing their feet either side of the Prime Meridian – the centre of world time and space.

The Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site comprises the historic town centre, Royal Park and related institutional buildings, and was inscribed by the World Heritage Convention.

The ensemble of buildings at Greenwich and their landscape setting, including the Royal Park, are a potent architectural symbol of English artistic, scientific and other institutional endeavour, notably from the 17th to late 19th centuries.

Greenwich Park hosts the Prime Meridian Line and Royal Observatory as well as being part of the Greenwich Maritime World Heritage Site which is home to The National Maritime Museum and Old Royal Naval College.

The oldest enclosed Royal Park, Greenwich dates back to 1427 and offers spectacular views across the River Thames to St Paul's Cathedral and beyond.

The vibrant town centre has so much to offer, with its historic covered market, its 'Clock Tower' bric-a-brac market and it's many unique shops, theatres, cinemas and restaurants.

All the attractions mentioned are an easy and very pleasant walk from the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

This lovely Period Property is just moments from all Greenwich has to offer. Step outside the front door and you are spoilt for choice on how to spend your day!

Convenient for London's major airports, typical travelling times are just - Gatwick 48 mins, Heathrow 60 mins, London City 24 mins.

Better than a hotel stay

  • 4 of 5

We have just spent 5 nights in this lovely little centrally based apartment. The combined living room and kitchen is comfortable with two sofas a dining table and a kitchen area along one wall. There was everything needed to self cater and the apartment gives much more flexibity than a hotel room. The bedroom and bathroom are very small but this is not where you are needing space so we were happy enough.

The location couldn't be better for all of the main Greenwich attractions such as Cutty Sark and Maritime Museum etc. For access into central London the Cutty Sark DLR station is only yards away.

All the pre arrival information was good and we were met at the apartment by the very friendly and helpful owner.

We are happy to recommend this apartment.

Great Find.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of 19 nights in this very cosy apartment. The first time we went out, coming back, it felt like home. Very centrally located in Greenwich which is a fantastic place to explore and the DLR just over the road made trips further afield very easy. A lovely compact kitchen, it is so nice to be able to prepare something when you feel like it, much nicer than a hotel room for nearly 3 weeks.

awesome location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our 5 nite stay in Greenwich. It was so nice after a long travel day to be so close to the DLR! Also great for going into London...because your close but don't have to stay in the city! We enjoyed being close to a Marks and Spencer as this was our last stop on a 2 week journey and we were tired of eating out. There was plenty to see but also condusive to chilling out. I would definately stay here again. It is a tiny place but good for a couple or 2 friends as we are. Also very clean.

Perfect base for Greenwich and London

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three loved this apartment, which is charming, cozy, and well-equipped. Located right in the middle of historic Greenwich, it's just steps to the DLR station, the Cutty Sark, the Thames waterfront, and the Greenwich Market. We enjoyed wandering beautiful Greenwich Park and the Old Royal Naval College. Easy access to London via DLR and the tube took about 30 minutes. Mary was lovely to work with and gave great tips on eating in Greenwich (we relied on the M&S Simply Foods and went for pie and mash at Goodard's). We highly recommend this apartment!

exactly as described

The apartment was exactly as described. The location was very central and in the heart of the town. Was very quiet at night despite being on the street.

My husband and I stayed in this awesome apartment for 9 days and loved everything about it!! The place is just as shown in the pictures, extremly clean and has a full kitchen. It's location close to the Tamz, M&S, and the DLR station made our life so much easier and enjoyable. Mary , the owner, was waiting for us the day we arrived and had buiscuits and wine as a welcoming present!! what else can I say... would recomend it 100% , so look no further ...and stay in Greenwich as we did :)

Situated in the heart of vibrant Greenwich, a World Heritage Maritime Site, home of the famous Cutty Sark Historical Sailing Ship, Greenwich Observatory (where time began), and the stunning architecture of Greenwich Maritime Museum and University.

Greenwich is steeped in Royal History being the birthplace of Henry VIII who was baptised in St Alfege's Church, Greenwich.

Queen Elizabeth I was also born here.

A stunning walk into beautiful Greenwich Park brings you up to The Royal Observatory where you can discover the history of Time and stand on the actual Greenwich Meridian time line with one foot in the east and one in the west. The views from here of the River Thames, Canary Wharf and The City of London are quite spectacular.

Walk further through the park to discover historic Blackheath and Blackheath Village with it's many fabulous restaurants.
