Why David Littlejohn chose Old Town

Vieux Nice is, for us, a special place - the heart and soul of the city. When we bought the property it was very run down and it gave us real pleasure restoring it.

The Old Port is only a few minutes' walk from the apartment and in the other direction the narrow streets of the Old Town are full of shops, restaurants and cafés winding their way down towards the Cours Saleya with its daily fruit, veg and flower markets.

For art lovers, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) is just around the corner, beside the National Theatre of Nice. The Promenade du Paillon - 12 hectares of gardens, fountains and public spaces built over the river - starts at the theatre and extends to the sea. We love it!

The beach, and the famous Promenade des Anglais, is a 10 minute walk from the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is historic, full of character and is in a superb location in the Old Town.

Other than simply enjoying being in Nice, there is a great choice of parks and gardens to explore - not least the grounds of the nearby former château. There are many art galleries, museums, theatres, shops, markets and, of course, more places to eat than you will ever run out of.

Our only criticism is that there was no salt and pepper, no soap for the washing machine, only one garbage bag and one piece of paper towel. Great place but needs a little more of the basics to get the travelers started.

Nice :-) - central - comfortable

The apartment is well located in the old town of Nice - but still somehow out of the main tourist tracks, so it's not too crowded and noisy as the most parts of the old town. I only can recommend the place if you plan a visit of Nice and its surroundings.

cozy apartment - perfect location

Love this place.

We have been here with my friend for the fifth time. Perfect location. You will feel like Nicoise :-)

Might be a bit noisy during the night (when they clean the street or take the rubish away)..but that´s part of the feeling living in the old town Nice :-)

Beach is few minutes walk. Fish market nearby. Supermarket just 100m from the house. the "big" market with fruit and vegetables is on the way to the beach. Place Garibaldi is just cross the street, lovely lively place. Many cool and trendy bars and restaurants in nearby neighbourhood. Enjoy it!

Schönes, kleines Appartement in der Alstadt

Wirklich schnuckeliges kleines Appartement mitten in der Altstadt von Nizza. Sauber und ordentlich und mit allem Nötigen für zwei Personen eingerichtet. Fußläufig ist eigentlich fast alles zu erreichen, Supermarkt ganz in der Nähe, Restaurants sowieso, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel ebenso und großes Parkhaus auch, falls man dort sein Auto unterstellen möchte. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

A fine apartment in old town Nice

This was our third stay at David's apartment. We have never seriously thought of staying anywhere else. Most evenings we picked up dinner in the various shops of the old town or the grocery store at the corner, and ate at the apartment. However, there are some great restaurants very close. The apartment is nicely renovated, tastefully decorated, and has everything we needed. The local property manager Doreen, was very responsive to our needs. I highly recommend this apartment. We find this region fascinating, and hope to return here some day.

Vieux Nice (the Old Town) has existed on the left bank of the River Paillon, under the chateau, for 2,000 years. The Old Town is still pretty much intact - a beguiling mix of narrow streets, courtyards, squares and baroque churches. An authentic slice of Mediterranean life.

Most people live in buildings with 1 or 2 apartments per floor served by a common stairwell. The ground floor is normally dedicated to commercial businesses. There are no shops, restaurants, bars or cars in Rue Neuve, but rather a handful of traditional businesses including a shutter restorer. However, at the end of the street is Place Garibaldi - one of Nice's most beautiful squares with its cafés and restaurants.

Nice's transport system is superb. All bus and tram journeys cost €1.50 per journey with a range of travel cards on offer. By train, Monte-Carlo and Cannes are less than half an hour away and Grasse, the perfume capital of France is about an hour away. There are also two railway lines from Nice into the Alps.
