Overview

About the property

living room with doublebed sofà, dining room, kitchen, 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom

In october 2015 - after the success of our first holidays's home in Trastevere (Abritel / Homeaway 666679), very appreciated by our guests who have sent us many entusiastic reviews 5 stars - we are pleased to offer another fine apartment in the picturesque central Testaccio district and a building of 1899 at 5 minutes walk from Trastevere. At 200m from the underground station 'Pyramid' and many bus lines that will take you in few minutes in the other parts of the historic center. You can easly also walk in few minutes to Trastevere and Tiber Island, to the hill of the Aventine, to the "Mouth of Truth" and Circus Maximus; in 15/20m to Colosseum and the Roman Forum.

The house overlooks the animate Piazza Testaccio with his famous old fountain, center of this distric full of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and quaint shops and meeting places for young people (pubs with live music, discos, other) which are concentrated around the small Testaccio's mountain (the old roman "Monte dei Cocci") and the Museum of Contemporary Art 'MACRO'. At 200m from our house Greenwich Cinema shows films in their original language.

The house is bright, well furnished with our family antiques, and consists of a living room with double bed sofà, a dining room with kitchen (both the spaces with amazing view on Testaccio's square), and 1 quite bedroom (with private bath+wc) that have a window on a large typicall Testaccio's courtyard. There is also another bathroom (for the guests will sleep on the living room), a storage and laundry room.

For our customers, we have prepared a plan Testaccio, where we indicated, as well as places of artistic and cultural interest, the best bars, restaurants, bakeries, etc., and addresses such as supermarkets, stops bus / taxi, ATM, etc.

About Annamaria and Andrea

A couple who loves the beauty and the culture (ancient and contemporary). Andrea is a wellknow italian painter&sculptor, Annamaria is a casting director(in 2014 his italian film won the Oscar!). They live with their children of 11 years old and a cute Italian Spinone named Pamina in honor of the "Magic Flute" by Mozart.

Annamaria and Andrea purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Annamaria and Andrea chose Aventino Testaccio

We live in the heart of Trastevere, Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, and when we had the chance to buy a house overlooking the amazing Piazza Testaccio, the heart of this ancient and characteristic Roman neighborhood, we do not have hesitate, even in thought as the future home of our son.

What makes this apartment unique

Living in a house that overlooks a large and beautiful square is the top! Our building is also one of typical buildings with a courtyard of Testaccio, built in 1899. From here you can visit walking many historic parts of Roma...but if you like you have at 150m the subway station!

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I shared this lovely apartment with another couple. We had a fabulous time. The apartment is small, but because of the layout, we felt that we were not infringing on each other’s privacy.

The location of the apartment could not have been better. There is a bus stop close by( 1/2 block). From there you can get to the center of Ancient Rome very easily, just a few bus stops from

there, many other interesting areas A short walk away. The apartment faces a small lively square where you can find a supermarket, great restaurants and cafes, but it does not feel touristy at all.

Andrea and Annamaria, were very accommodating hosts; we will definitely stay there again the next time we come to Rome.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your message David, we are very happy that your group of 4 loved the house and the typical roman district of Testaccio, as all our guests in the last 6 years...excluded only one person, coming as you from the USA, who wrote an unjust and a bit 'bad review ... so we are particularly pleased that just from the USA, from New York, your beautiful review has arrived! Best wishes hoping to have you again guests in our house Andrea and Annamaria

Shabby, cramped, and noisy, but great location

  • 1 of 5

Starting with shabby - Floors, walls, furniture, counters, cabinets and appliances, all showed signs of significant wear and tear. The worst case was the hall bathroom with dirty, cracked, and missing tiles on the floor, a makeshift lighting fixture and a sink so tiny as to be unusable.

Now, cramped - While the living room and dining room are good sized, the rest of the apartment is really tiny. The bedroom is completely inadequate for two people. The double bed is shoved up against the wall in the corner, making access extremely awkward for more than one person. The rest of the room is taken up by a bathtub, sink, and w.c. There is very little room for clothing or luggage storage.

Noisy - The apartment is located one floor above the street (1st floor). Directly below it, at street level, is a very popular bar with outside seating right below the apartment windows. The local crowd (and I do mean crowd) starts arriving about 6:00 pm, but the party doesn't really get going until 9:00 and roars on until 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. It is so loud that it is pointless to try to watch tv, and forget about sleeping.

On a positive note, the Testaccio neighborhood has a great community feel and there are many really good restaurants, it's virtually tourist free, and it has relatively easy access to most of Rome via multiple modes of public transportation (not a good area to have a car though).

We spent 5 nights in the apartment and we really did try to like it. However, in the end, we don't feel we could recommend it to other travelers.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry mr Madden that you did not feel well in our home like all previous guests. I apologize for the situation of the small bathroom that we could arrange only in these next days that will be free, before we could not, but in few days we will make a new the floor and will fix other things of the small bathroom. As for the noise from the bar below the house is the first time that our guests tell this to us, perhaps it was an exceptional situation. Perhaps, as sometimes happens when people are on vacation, for one reason or another, the holiday goes not good and so happens to see everything black. So even the furniture of the house, historic furniture of the 40s that were in my wife's family home, or a chest of the nineteenth century, which certainly are not as perfect as the furniture of Ikea, are seen as old and ruined by time. The bed placed near the wall, like the close beautiful '30s style bathroom, were then visible even in the photos published online, so it should not be a surprise, especially negative, since that the bathroom, like the interiors of the house, or the beautiful sunny view on the square, are the things most loved by our guests. The bedroom then, since it overlooks the typical large internal courtyard of the building (built at the end of the 19th century) is objectively silent, as confirmed by all our guests However, thanks to your critic, I will see well every detail of the services of the house where before your arrive lived our nephew for 10 months and, trusting in him, we had not checked that some things (dishes, glasses and the toaster) had in the meantime broken. But now, since we started again to rent the house to tourists, every week comes our assistant for check in, cleaning and check up, so everything will be fine. The confirmation that even without the bathroom with the new floor (which as wrote will be placed tomorrow) the house is still loved and considered silent, came just a few days ago from one of our guests who was still in the house and wrote to me: "Tout va bien , nous nous sommes installées avec plaisir et la place est merveilleuse " ("All is well, we settled with pleasure and the place is wonderful") As I said I'm really sorry for the situation of small bathroom, and for the fact that you did not feel well: was a thorn in the heart after 5 years of roses, but if you write me to my email I will find the concrete way to apologize and reward the holiday crooked.

A classic apartment in a classic neighourhood.

  • 5 of 5

I cannot begin to tell you of the glorious stay we had at Testaccio. We all felt blessed. The apartment was perfect for us in every way. My wife Marilyn and I occupied the apartment for several days before being joined by our pregnant daughter and her husband. We found the sleeping arrangements more than adequate. The flat is practically and tastefully furnished and very easy to live in. It was a perfect base for exploring all of wonders of central Rome. The local eateries and cafes were well worth sampling. We also shopped at the local Mercato Testaccio and cooked at home. Drinking home-brewed coffee early in the morning or a glass of wine in the late afternoon and looking out from the apartment's shutters onto the activities in Piazza Testaccio was a simple luxury that only this apartment could provide. I also went skateboarding in the Piazza!

"Our" apartment made us feel very Roman for a week!

Thank you for your kindness and hospitality, Andrea and Annamaria.

Kind regards

Owner's Response: Thank you very much Rodney and Marylin for your fine souvenir of our house in Testaccio: also for us was a pleasure met you and your wife and feel that California and Testaccio or Trastevere, old roman traditional districts but also animate and "alternative", full of new tendencies, are not so far, but close and with a similar spirit. Our best greetings to you hoping to meet you again in the next time Andrea and Annamaria

Beautiful Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay in this lovely apartment. The furnishings are beautiful and comfortable; truly a "home away from home". It was very clean and well equipped with everything you need. We found the location to be perfect; we could walk to Rome's main sites in 20-30 minutes or easily hop on a bus or metro. Then in the evening it was so nice to come home to the Testaccio neighborhood (and get away from the tourists).. Having a glass of wine while overlooking the old Piazza was delightful. Andrea was extremely helpful; supplying us with a handmade local map pointing out sights and restaurants. He was such a kind and generous host. We highly recommend this property and we certainly hope to stay here again.

Lovely flat in Testaccio

  • 5 of 5

Our family consisting of two adults and two teenaged children stayed in this apartment for five nights.

The apartment is very nice, spacious and contains everything you need. The dining table is right by a large windows in the kitchen that opens up to a square. We loved to sit and eat at the table while watching the people and activities taking place there. The apartment is in Testaccio which is a lovely area away from the more touristic Rome but still within walking distance from Rome centre. Andrea and Annamaria have been very friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. We would definitely recommend the apartment and would like to stay there next time we visit Rome.

Excellente

  • 5 of 5
