A Wonderful Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here in mid-April and couldn’t have been happier with our choice of places to stay in this part of the Perigord. From our initial contact with Joel and throughout our visit the level of communication was first-rate. The orientation he provided upon our arrival was among the best we've encountered and his responses to our questions over the course of the week were always prompt and positive. We were especially impressed with the lack of “surprises” with this rental - the description and photos provided on the website listing are accurate.

Located on the main street that runs next to the river and situated above the shops, the house is well placed for enjoying the village and the surrounding region whichever direction we wanted to go. As noted, parking is about a hundred yards away in the public lot near the boat landings but it turned out to be no problem at all as the lots are safe and free with the provided dash placard. Loading and unloading our car was easy as brief(!) double-parking in front of the house is possible.

The house is very comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is large, well equipped (including a full-size refrigerator and plenty of utensils) and everything was in very good repair. We loved the back courtyard for sunning and a little outside dining – it’s a delightful spot for quiet down time. The living room is pretty spectacular and, along with comfortable seating, has a nice television and music system.

We loved the front terrace in the early morning and late evenings when all was quiet and the view out over the Dordogne River was at its best.

Overall, from beginning to end we felt this was a great place for our visit and we can recommend highly. We’ll be staying here again.

Beautiful riverside location, very comfortable base, perfect for exploring the Dordogne valley

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in this house at La Roque Gageac. It was very spacious and perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. Joel and Sandra were very kind in accommodating our lack of French and it was wonderful to receive a parking pass for the week. We loved cooking in the kitchen with ingredients from the local markets (be sure to go to Sarlat market on a Saturday) and having a choice of 3 places to eat- the courtyard, the balcony or the dining table. The house has lovely decor and the washing machine was very handy. Amazing view from the balcony and front windows really made our holiday special. You can visit Joel in the store below to buy wine, the boulangerie is a short walk, and the restaurant next door does amazing pizzas and will deliver to the house. Very central location to lots of the attractions in the area so you don't need to drive far. Lovely walks nearby to the river and through the forest. Highly recommended and we will tell all our friends.

Perfect and peaceful stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the house of Gabarrier. The house is beautifully and recently renovated; everything is fresh and new and perfectly comfortable. The large kitchen is especially appealing, and was fully equipped with everything we needed. We really enjoyed being able to shop at the weekly markets in the nearby villages. The huge fireplace in the living room is impressive. The house was also very quiet--no noise from the road--and situated directly across from the river. You can watched the displays of air balloons over the river (beautiful door out to the balcony). The backyard, pushed up to the cliffs, was stunning: peaceful and beautiful. La Roque-Gageac is itself lovely, and there are many wonderful spots in the Dordogne to visit by car, as well as beautiful hikes starting in La Roque. Everything went smoothly with all the arrangements: contract, payment, deposits with Sandra (who speaks English well) and Joel Roche. I absolutely recommend staying here! We'd love to return.

Stunning Views and Charming Accomadation!

  • 5 of 5

What is not to love about this area? This charming house, located in the ideal spot on the Dordogne, makes it all perfect! Joel and Sandra were so helpful and responsive, and we had no difficulties at all with this booking, even all the way from California. Great people! The house itself is updated nicely but retains its old world charm. We are a couple and the house was really more space then we needed, but we booked it anyway for the great location right in the center of it all in La Roque Gageac. Four adults or a small family would find all the space and comforts needed in the house. We loved sitting in the beautifully decorated family room overlooking the river. We were lucky to view hot air balloons flying past along on the river from our own little balcony - also a very peaceful spot each morning for coffee. The house is cared for lovingly and was spotlessly clean. The full bath and half bath are updated. The full bath has plenty of storage space for all of your personal items, making it feel spacious and easy to organize. The bed was cozy in the main room and had lots of nice storage for two people. We didn't sleep in the second room, but it also had great storage and a view of the river. The outdoor space is quite large for this location and also has all the charm a traveler is looking for in this area. Since you are right in the center of town, restaurants are all in walking distance. There is a convenient pizza place right below the house which was really handy on those days when you are just too worn out to go out to eat. They even delivered! We enjoyed their chicken panini more than once! There is a grocery store in the next town over - easy five minute drive - which make stocking up on supplies really easy if you wish to cook from home. Parking is in the public lot in town, a nice stroll through town away. You are able to pull up briefly to the house to unload luggage, so you don't have to carry it through town. One unexpected convenience was the parking pass that Joel and Sandra provided. That saved us the parking fees and made things very simple as we came and went each day - very appreciated! You can't go wrong with this location. Driving to neighboring towns and sites is extremely easy, just pick a direction and go! We loved seeing Joel in the local makets and enjoyed his personal foie gras (his shop is located on the ground floor of the house). Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Located in the village of La Roque Gageac, most beautiful villages in France between cliffs and the Dordogne cottage offers stunning views. A walk in the village to discover its church and its exotic garden allows you to spend a moment in peace.

Vows are only steps from the valley of gems (castles, caves, bastides ...) and only 10 minutes from Sarlat capital of Black Périgord.

The proximity of the river you can enjoy a walk by barge to explore the castles of the valley, or a descent, sportier, canoes.
