Quintessential Maine Oceanfront Home

Bedrooms 4
Separate WCs1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Forget the commercialism and congestion of the Cape, Martha's Vineyard or even Southern Maine. This beautiful and unique property is located right in the center of the Maine Coast, situated perfectly between Portland (approximately an hour to the South) and Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) to the north.

The property sits atop 2.5 expansive and private acres of land on a hill sloping down to the Atlantic Ocean, and consists of a lovely classic Maine cape home (built in 1998), a detached 'Boat House' for additional sleeping and recreation, and a 40 foot commercial grade pier and dock.

The main house has a crisp, bright, open post and beam layout, with a modern island kitchen, 3 upstairs bedrooms (sleeping 6) and a spacious wrap-around deck overlooking the water. There are 1.5 baths in the main house and 1 bath in the Boat House.

The Boat House is an extraordinary structure, originally designed to build and store large vessels, in which a large, spacious section has been newly renovated. The Boat House has vaulted high ceilings, granite stone tile flooring, and sleeps 4 comfortably (two twin beds and a queen). The Boat House is ideal for the kids or extended family. It includes a pool table, air hockey, fooseball, and a 42' flat screen HDTV.

The property comes equipped with three boats (a single kayak, a three person canoe-kayak hybrid and a two person ocean kayak), along with life jackets and paddles ready for your families' enjoyment. The kayaking routes immediately off the dock are literally some of the best in the world, and you can explore dozens of pristine islands right from off of the dock. You can also eat fresh lobster caught and cooked daily at a neighborhood lobster cooperative about a two hundred yard walk down the hill from the house. Or, just ask Shamus (the neighborhood lobstering wonder-boy) to deliver some fresh off of his boat to the door. After dinner, enjoy the firepit in the yard for roasting marshmellows and sitting around the fire.

Damariscotta, with its famous harbor, restaurants and a Hannaford's shopping center, is only 10-15 minutes from the house. Pemaquid Point Beach, one of Maine's most gorgeous sandy beaches and home to the most photographed lighthouse in the world, Pemaquid Point Light, is about 20-25 minutes from the house. The ferry to spectacular Monhegan Island leaves daily from New Harbor, about 20 minutes from the house, and the popular towns of Camden and Boothbay Harbor are each about 20-30 miles away.

Everything you need for your stay is provided, including a fully equipped kitchen, linens, wireless internet, outdoor furniture and grill, DVD player, Direct TV, a BOSE iPhone/iPod docking stereo station, and two smart 42-inch LCD HD TVs with Netflix built in for watching movies.

Great Time

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Bremen. We got really lucky with weather; it was in the high 60s most days in September, and the leaves were brilliant. The house and the area are just beautiful. We ate lobster almost everyday and really appreciated Dan's recommendations; highly suggest future travelers follow them!

Delightful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our two families (my husand and I and our two kids, 9 and 7) and my husband's best friend's family came to Bremen to escape the Texas summer heat and boy were we glad we did! The house was just right for our families' needs and the cool ocean breeze was so refreshing. The kids really appreciated all of the different games in both the basement and the boathouse. We all had a great time kayaking, whale-watching, eating heaps and heaps of lobster and just relaxing through and through. It was a great week.

We had a great time visiting Bremen. Enjoyed the kayaking and sitting out on the deck in the morning/late afternoon, looking at the beautiful views. The owner was very helpful pre-stay offering activity suggestions and being very detailed about the house. Much appreciated. It is a lovely home with everything necessary available. Would definitely return.

If you're looking for a vacation filled with serenity and natural beauty you just cannot do better than this place. The house gets a ton of natural light, so even when you're inside you feel the sun shining in. We'll never forget waking up each morning to the sun coming up over the water and the stunning array of colors that came through the mist. We're also big kayakers and I don't think we've ever had a better time kayaking than we did here. There are literally dozens of uninhabited islands to explore within an hour paddle from the dock. And it goes without saying that the local lobster down the road simply cannot be beat! Thanks Dan for the use of a your home and a wonderful week.

Just what the doctor ordered

  • 5 of 5

We rented the property for our extended family of ten and could not have been happier. The house was very clean and well appointed, and perfectly located for exploring the gorgeous Maine coast. We especially appreciated the boat house which gave the kids a house of their own and us adults some time to ourselves! The lobster just down the road was incredible. We ate it every day except one. We also really appreciated the welcome packet Dan sent us which gave us all kinds of ideas of things to do and places to eat, many of which we did. Overall, it was a great trip--just the kind of relaxing week that we all needed.

Just Lovely

  • 5 of 5

The sun, the stars, the moon, the smell of salt in the air, the fresh raspberries from the lawn, the peace and quiet, the sounds of the sea--these are just some of the things we will never forget about our trip. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us!
