Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, Oak Lodge is host to travelers the year 'round. The calendar is totally up to date, so be sure to get a week or two just for you and your family!
Can you imagine yourself surrounded in this solidly built Abe Lincoln Log Home - with a wall of windows overlooking the cove, whimsical yet contemporary decor, and with an open kitchen and living area topped by an enormous cathedral ceiling. The lighting design of the cathedral ceiling is spectacular - a delight at night!
After playing all day either on sun-drenched Kerr Lake with your own boat or one from the rental firms in town, or on a guided canoe trip, out shopping in nearby furniture craftsman towns, or visiting an historic Southern Plantation home, the family returns to Oak Lodge. In the gourmet kitchen everything is pleasing: stainless steel appliances, a double-sided refrigerator with an ice dispenser, a host of pots, pans, mixers, even that the exhaust vent for the stove raises and lowers from the countertop is delightful. While preparing your favorite meal, laughter fills Oak Lodge as the whole family shares about the day's events - these are the times that memories are made of!
After a great dinner, you pop open your favorite beverage, and with a full tummy, it's time for cards. Maybe it's time to sit alone on the Juliette Balcony to catch up on that book you've been carrying around for a few weeks. It might just be nap time on the hammock out on the deck, overlooking the cove ... your sweetheart could join you for that nap because the hammock is built to hold two adults - up to 650 pounds. It's your call at Oak Lodge.

I am an American Sign Language Interpreter. When not working, I like escaping to Kerr Lake and getting out on the boat and jet skis. I have a dog and she goes with me everywhere, especially on vacation!
Rick Haffner purchased this house in 2008
We built Oak Lodge in 2008 because we wanted to have a vacation lake-house at Kerr Lake to share with others. It's just three hours from our home in Charlotte, NC, which is close enough to get away on a weekend, but far enough from the busy life so we know we really did get away. We also wanted it to be a log home because the feeling a log home evokes is unlike a regular house - all the wood provides a charm like nothing else can. The property we chose to build the house is on a cove, which is important because we wanted to be able to swim safely, and have our boat not be subjected to winds and wakes.
At Oak Lodge, we like the porches and the rustic luxury the house exudes. When we are there, we cook out on the grill a lot, and we enjoy going to Los Banditos for excellent Mexican food when the mood to cook just isn't there for us.
The property was as advertised...well maintained, clean and comfortable. Rick sent us all kinds of suggestions and recommendations for the area that were very helpful. The kitchen was well appointed and I appreciated the starter soaps and paper products. This trip was just my husband and myself, but there would have been plenty of room for my daughters and their babies.(next trip) The lake was lovely and we rented a pontoon boat for one day to explore the area. Don't miss Occoneechee State Park, (one of the nicest state parks I've ever been to). Unfortunately we had to depart a day earlier than planned (illness), but I hope we will return again. It would be helpful to have information posted about where to take trash.
Oak Lodge was charming, spacious and clean. We spent a lovely Thanksgiving there with five adults and our dog. The property was well-equipped, even for cooking thanksgiving dinner, and well maintained. Lots of nice hiking trails at the nearby state park. We were sorry to leave!
Good food, good company and grand babies! Perfect setting for our family gathering! Oak Lodge has a social kitchen... we took turns cooking for each other in a well appointed kitchen. The toddlers had fun playing downstairs when it rained. Plenty of room for all of us. Rented kayaks and spent time exploring the lake. Believe in leaving every rental better than when we arrived...so only request would be a new broom! Thanks for a lovely vacation!
We stayed at Oak Lodge for a long weekend. If you're looking for a place with a view of the water, this isn't it. There is a dock with boat access if you have one, but you can barely see the tiny cove from one end of the porch. Nothing like the view from other houses just down the block. The trees were very full and green, so it was still a lovely view; just a different view than we were expecting from the description online. The house and grounds themselves are quiet and beautiful. The owner was very accommodating however, and inside the house is spotless! The housekeeping service is excellent. There's even an entire finished basement with direct access to the yard for the dog. Plenty of rocking chairs for the back porch, which is a very relaxing place to sip your coffee in the early morning while waiting for sunrise. Oak Lodge was also perfect for my dog, who is energetic and vocal, with lots of room to run and enough space between neighbors to make as much of a ruckus as she wanted. The one complaint from my family, other than the lack of water view, was the need to buy our own paper supplies. As my father put it, for the price we were paying you'd think they'd at least stock some extra toilet paper and a roll of paper towels somewhere. It's not like they're lacking for storage space.
And a note about the area: This has no bearing on my rating or review of Oak Lodge itself. First I'll repeat that inside the house is spotless. The housekeeping service is excellent and the owners keep the house in excellent working order, but outside... well, the lot is wooded so spiders are unavoidable. They're small and harmless but they are numerous and will take over the porch and doorways if you let them. This isn't anything the owners can control, so if you want to sit outside just be prepared to clear away a lot of spider webs. After clearing the webs the first day, we brought our cleaned chairs inside overnight so we wouldn't have to clean them again the next morning. And we brought them inside when we left, for the next visitors.
We spent 3 days at Oak lodge, had a wonderful relaxing time .Beautiful large home in a very quiet peaceful neighborhood! Owner was very accommodating, even offered to purchase a keurig coffee machine for the house when I asked about one.Would definitely come back here to stay!
I did a last minute get away with my dog and a best friend to Oak Lodge. The house was very clean, located in a wonderful neighborhood with privacy between houses. After walking a short path down to the lake, we discovered a beautiful little cove. This is a perfect place for children and dogs to swim without worrying about boats, jet skis, etc.! The quietness of this place was awesome! Especially enjoyed the screened porches and catching site of deer!
The owner was very accommodating and quickly responded to my request for reservations. Thank you for a great escape from the "real world" for a few days!
