Delightful apartment, views, village

  • 5 of 5

Tibalou was a delightful oasis with remarkable views set in a well-preserved medieval village complete with castle. The beds were comfortable and the apartment, well-appointed. Martine, the woman who welcomed us, was delightful and always helpful. (We managed with basic French to have a great connection.) While visiting, we explored les grottes Lascaux and Font de Gaume (remarkable), and other remarkable prehistoric sites, traveled down the Vezere River by canoe, relished regional market days, and enjoyed the local cuisine. Despite the many tourists trekking up to the castle, we found Beynac to be a much more serene village to stay in than, say, Sarlat. We would certainly recommend the area and this apartment.

WOW!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely house from Aug 17th - 22nd. We were met in the village parking lot by Martine and she walked us up to the house. She didn't speak any English and we don't really speak French but with a lot of hand gestures we were able to understand each other. The owner stopped by the next evening to make sure we were all settled in. He didn't speak English either but had his charming young grandson with him to translate. He and Martine could not have been more welcoming!

The pictures on this site do not do the house justice - it's much bigger than it appears to be. Everything was clean and comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked. The washing machine was a huge bonus but there is no dryer, which was an adjustment for us spoiled Americans! The views from every window were breathtaking, especially early in the morning when there was fog in the valley. It was very hot when we were there but the stone house was so nice and cool we didn't even need to open the windows.

We visited during the height of tourist season and the town is packed to the gills every day, all day long. Parking was not fun and even trying to get out of town took some time because of all the cars. Luckily the town really cleared out every evening and we were able to enjoy it more.

Practicalities: as lazy Americans we are used to driving everywhere so the climb up the hill to the house was a little challenging, especially with groceries. The owner was kind enough to stop by the day we left to tell us we could drive our car up the hill to get our luggage but we didn't want to attempt the narrow road. The walk is not horribly long but be aware it's pretty steep on a cobblestone path.

Even with all the tourists, hike to the house and parking challenges this house was so magical and the owner so welcoming I would jump at the chance to visit again - Thank you so much for your hospitality!!!

We spent a wonderful two weeks in this lovely house in the heart of the village of Beynac. Everything about the "Maison Tibalou" was delightful--- spotlessly clean completely equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, wi-fi that worked all the time, and a beautiful panoramic view of the Dordogne Valley right out our window!

The village is centrally located for sightseeing, hiking and canoeing down the River.

Everything it was advertised to be.

The Maison Tibalou was like a house in a fairy tale, but very modern. comfortable and spotlessly clean inside. Our local hostess Martine was very kind and helpful.

The location is very central for sightseeing, hiking, canoeing down the river, etc.

Thank you, M. Drouin, for sharing this charming place with us!

Owner's Response: Many thanks Christine. We made our best to fully renovate the Tibalou house last year with passion and are delightful that you did appreciate the limestone walls and beams, the patio and views over the Dordogne combined with all the comfort you can expect for your holiday(dish washer, washing machine...). Bien cordialement,

Idéal

  • 5 of 5
