Lovely restored farm cottage with 3 bedrooms (2 en suite) ideal for two couples with children. This cottage has recently been extended and restored to provide first class accommodation and gourmet kitchen facilities. Fully heated plus open log fire so great in winter as well as summer; stone walls keep you cool in hot weather. This cottage is one of three at the Vrigny location. All cottages are individual. We are 2 minutes from lovely vineyard walks and the river Cher and 5 minutes from village shops in St. George’s sur Cher / Francueil. Situated in the beautiful Loire Valley just 10 minutes drive from the famous Chateau de Chenonceau, this was the original farmhouse occupied by the grandmother. Restored to the highest quality whilst retaining the original features, with two en suite bedrooms and a twin bedroom, shower room and two downstairs toilets one fitted with a razor point. Living room with open fireplace, bed-settee and armchairs, TV / video and radio / CD player. Lovely big kitchen diner with recently installed electric hob and two ovens. Utility room with fridge/freezer, washing machine. Own patio furniture and BBQ, large shared and enclosed garden.
I am a private owner living in England but who loves France and the way of life. John and I visit the cottages several times a year to ensure all is going well and to have a lovely time there ourselves and with our family. I spend a lot of time painting while I am there and John looks after the maintenance. We are both retired doctors though when we bought the cottages we were very busy now we have more time to enjoy our lovely home.
Ann Palmer purchased this cottage in 1989
John and I bought this lovely farmstead soon after we moved to the south of England; we wanted somewhere for our family to visit within easy reach of home. We chose Vrigny as it is in the country but not isolated and it is close to Chenonceau our favourite chateau, it is central for visiting all the castles in the Loire Valley and also the vineyards, our local wines are so good and being so close to the vineyards we can participate in the vendange (harvest). We developed the property over the years; the 3 cottages are independent and you can enjoy your own space, there is also the advantage you will meet some really interesting people - or bring your friends and share two or three cottages together.
We love our home in Vrigny because it is close to the river and vineyards; it has a lovely large garden in which we grow fruit for everyone to enjoy, and we can sit in the courtyard and relax and let the world go by. Even better when we do decide to go out we are so close to Chenonceau (the most visited chateau after Versailles) that we have bought ourselves season tickets so we can enjoy the lovely grounds and beautiful setting as often as possible, The lovely walks in the vineyards and along the river really enhance any trip (it is possible to walk right along to Chenonceau and further to Blere or in the other direction to Montrichard and St Aignean).. We have a market to choose from every day of the week and our local restaurants are very very good. We enjoy exploring the lovely wineries and have chosen some of the best around to put on a list for our visitors. We will bombard you with information to help you enjoy your stay in our cottages.
The cottage was picturesque and comfortable with all the conveniences. The location was wonderful and quiet. We wanted to stay forever!
We were a party of 4 adults staying for 4 nights. Everything about this delightful cottage and its location, facilities, proximity to Loire Valley castles, walks and bike tracks, was exactly to our liking and as advertised. We enjoyed the ambiance of St Georges, a couple of nice restaurants, its Charcuterie and Patisserie, and its semi-rural surrounds.
One of our group enjoyed the opportunities to speak French with the very helpful Manager and several other locals. Being Australian, we appreciated the spacious outdoor areas of the cottage, with some delicious fig and apple fruits to eat and shady walnut trees, a place to park our car, and a sizeable relaxing place to while-away some hours with a good book, or a cup of coffee and a chat.
We would recommend this site to anyone wishing to spend a week or so visiting Chenonceau, Amboise, and other sites in the Loire region, then relaxing in a delightful 'home-stay'.
Finding and booking the property was extremely easy thanks to the prompt and helpful emails from the owner. The property was quite clean, very tidy and well maintained. We chose to clean it ourselves on departure as we found the optional proposed cleaning cost a little steep.
Location was perfect for visiting many Chateau's in the area, especially Chenonceau, which was only 10 mins drive and beautiful.
The owner sent us very useful handouts with information on everything from supermarkets to restaurants in the area.
Unfortunately we didn't get to use the bikes provided as we had a baby with us, but this is a very useful facility provided.
I would definately recommend it to a friend.
The cottage is set on the outskirts of the village of St Georges and a few paces from the Touraine vineyards. We are central for visiting the Loire Valley chateaux (castles) and wineries. We are 4 minutes drive from Chenonceau the beautiful chateau with arches across the river where Henri 2nd kept his wife Catherine de Medici and mistress Diane de Poitier, 10 minutes from Amboise and 30 minutes from Chambord, Cheverny, Chaumont. The A85 route is a quick access to castles west of Tours including Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry and the mediaeval town of Chinon the original site of the French Parliament. Winery visits are a must with great vineyards including Vouvray (chenin) Chinon, Bourgeuil and Saumur (Cabernet Frabnc) and Oisly east to Sancerre and Pouilly (one and half hours) for sauvignons.
