This was our second time staying at your place and this review is late but I thought I have to say what a perfect place to be. The location is perfect. The house is nice, rustic and warm. It could not be better. The kitchen is well stock with all the utensils you can possibly need. Do not bring anything else but food to cook or bake.
The bathroom are well stocked with towels!
The little pool was great for the one little kid we brought. The beach is right there.
We are definitely coming back next year.
Thanks for letting us rent you house.
Martin, Gallup and Phillips family.
Barbara...thank you so much. We loved the place. Kitchen had every pot and pan ever needed to include huge seafood steamer. Place was rustic and Charming especially nice for beach house so we could enjoy without fear of kids (5, 6 and 7) breaking expensive stuff...of course nothing was broken. We also rented pool house for the extra room...sleeping porch leaked a tiny bit but no problem. Lots of towels and linens in both. Tons of dishes. Almost private beach with walkway to and outdoor shower. We saw some dolphins swimming...bonus. bought jumbo shrimp to cook at My Way seafood place.. super good price. Bring everything u need from Tallahassee or closest grocery store is in Panacea. This place was so nice we might come back even though we all now live in Denver!!! Thank you again so much. The most reasonably priced and great Beach House ever.....not 5 star for 5 star snobs but 10 star for everyday people who want the beach, stars, views, fishing, seclusion and a great kitchen to cook fantastic feasts. We also cleaned/tidied up the countertop ice maker as it needed some loving!
I work for a non-profit organization in Arkansas, and was looking for a relaxing place to take our staff and young adult volunteers to take a week off, disconnect and enjoy each other and a beautiful place. We found the perfect fit!
The house was large enough to house our group, as well as accommodating enough to comfortably seat everyone for meals and give people quiet corners where they could curl up and read a book.
The close beach access was a huge win for us because we could spend as much time outside as we wanted, with access to the house within a stone's throw distance for food and A/C.
The kitchen was big and well-suited for cooking for large groups. We ate some wonderful meals with some wonderful views of the ocean!
I would recommend this property to anyone!
We had a wonderful first visit to Withers Beach - the house was just steps from the ocean and the beach wasn't crowded at all. Dolphins swam by every night about sunset. The deck is perfect for a large group and there are two expansive living room areas for hanging out inside as well as two separate dining areas. We had a group of 10 adults and 5 toddlers and were very comfortable. The kitchen is HUGE and perfect for cooking meals for a large group each day. There's not a grocery store super conveniently close but we made a couple of trips out to get supplies - no big deal. The pool is small and perfect for watching the little ones swim. We had a great time and hope to make it a tradition every year!
After staying on Alligator point in April 2013 we knew we wanted to come back to the area for spring break 2014. The point is remote and not very large so it is not crowded and plenty of nature - this is our preference when vacationing. In an area of many 70's 80's decorated family cottages this beach house is top notch. It still has a beach front cottage feel but is very tastefully decorated, has an amazing modern kitchen, is clean and an excellent location. The 11 of us had plenty of room. The owner was easy to work with and everyone in our group (4 parents 7 kids) would highly recommend a visit if you can get away. If your looking for the latest ocean front squeezed in rental along with the masses of people and tourist traps, I would not recommend alligator point. St. George Island is not far down the beach - that might be more to your liking. If you want a family cottage feel right on the ocean where you can relax and take it all in, this would be a great choice. The small town of Ocklockenee Bay is a short drive and has amenities, Panacea is a little further and has a fully stocked sports store and good restaurants along with a grocery store. Alligator point has very good fishing right off the beach with shore casters.
We have used VRBO to travel several countries for various reasons. This home is, by far, the best value we have experienced. "Old Florida" is the perfect description. From the beach, to the dock on the bay, to the inside of the house, the entire experience was one of solitude and peace. No "gotta go and do" atmosphere. We saw MAYBE 8-10 people on the beach over 4 days. We walked the beach with dolphins just out beyond us, went fishing on light tackle and caught some really nice trout, and ate at the local restaurants which served perfectly fine catch of the day dishes for reasonable prices. The house was NOT adorned with pricey additions and, thus, we were automatically at ease not trying to "watch out" for things. The review below regarding misrepresentation is, at its best, ignorant and uninformed. Google map the property. It is exactly what is shown. If you want the Ritz don't stay here. You probably wouldn't be liked on the island anyway with that kind of attitude. No one will do it for you here, you will need to take care of yourself and doing so will be the best bang for your buck you ever experience at this place. We will return here annually and hope that the renter next door is not another "misrepresentation" type. Thank you Ms. Withers for sharing this really, really cool place.
Most people find plenty to do at Withers Beach enjoying the beach, the dock, tennis court, swimming pool, cozy corners for conversations and afternoon naps. Across the bridge (15 minutes) there is a small grocery store, fresh seafood markets, Angelo's Seafood Restaurant, Posey's Steam Room and Dockside restaurants, 2 liquor stores, a bank/ATM, marine supply stores and gas stations. Be sure to check out the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab in Panacea and no trip to the forgotten coast is complete without a jungle cruise and a swim at Wakulla Springs (Ed Ball State Park) or a day kayaking the unspoiled coastlines of the Forgotten Coast or the pristine nearby rivers. Alligator Point Yacht Basin can launch your boat or you can use the free boat ramp nearby.
A half an hour to Crawfordville and you have restaurants, Super Wal-Mart, all kinds of stores and shops. An hour away is Apalachicola, perhaps the most charming small Gulf town in the State with charming shops and great restaurants.
