After many years of visiting Kauai we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a home there. We live between Maui and California but love Kauai best for vacation. We are ocean lovers who have traveled all over for water sports, beautiful beaches and tropical paradise. Haena Cove is the perfect spot, we hope you think so too!
Alexandra Falk purchased this house in 2011
We are a young couple from New York City who needed a romantic getaway. Our review is based on the house for 2 people.
We booked on VRBO. Alexandra contacted us immediately with instructions and offered any assistance. Julie also contacted us and offered to help with anything we needed.
We came in the middle of the night and after renting a car (Jeep Wrangler 4 door- $75 per day) we stopped at a safeway and cvs which was a few minutes away from airport. Did a full shopping of food, water, liquor etc. The drive to the house was about an hour or so, it was our first time in Kauai so we were driving relatively slow. It was pitch black and we could not see anything, lots of winding roads and bridges that are 1 lane for 2 way traffic. The address does not show up on google maps so it was a little adventure finding the house when its pitch black outside, go to this mile marker, look for fire hydrant and then make right at the bamboo fence. It worked out fine, the instructions winded up being perfect.
We got to the house about 2am. Our initial reaction was, pretty nice house, as advertised. Pictures were accurate. We were exhausted and pretty much passed out immediately.
When we woke up the next morning our opinion went from pretty nice house to wow, this is the PERFECT house. The views are breathtaking, you have complete privacy. The bathroom was very nice, everything was clean. There is an energy that radiates from the house, its calming, peaceful and special.
Driving around in the Jeep with the roof removed was fun and a pleasant change from driving in New york city.
There are barely any radio stations on the island, i would recommend bringing some cd's with you.
We did kayaking- $50 - Very fun
Helicopter Ride with landing at waterfall - $700 for 2 people- Amazing views but not a smooth ride. Skip if you dont have a strong stomach.
The beach here is nothing like miami or carribean, the ocean has personality. The waves are intense. Everyday we went to the beach "Tunnels" (3 min from house), there were "No swimming" signs. Didn't stop us but it was quite an experience.
Overall the house is amazing, Kauai is amazing and we could not have asked for a better trip. We will definitely be back to Kauai and we would definitely book this house again and thats pretty much the best compliment you could ever give.
Haena Cove is a beautiful 4 bedroom home right on the beach, set in a large, estate-like botanical garden setting.
The property manager, Julie, is both efficient and delightful, and is readily available to fix any problems, and to provide recommendations on everything from attractions and activities to private chefs.
Compared to other rental homes we saw on the North Shore, Haena Cove is #1.
This was our second time at this amazing home. It is absolutely perfect. It's everything a vacation house should be and more. The property is perfectly maintained and the setting is breathtaking. The property is managed by Julie and she is welcoming, helpful and available. We felt like she was an old friend and she was happy to see us. Thanks for sharing this gem!
We had a wonderful experience during our stay in Kauai when we stayed at Lihi Kai. The location was perfect. It is only a 4-5 min walk to Tunnels beach where we snorkeled everyday. The swimming in front of the property wasn't possible during the majority of our stay due to high surf but we enjoyed watching the turtles from the deck and from the beach right in front of the house. We loved being so close to Tunnels where we would swim and watch the sunset. It's surreal. It's also a 10 min drive to Hanalei Bay where the kids could jump off of the pier and boogie board. This location also puts you very close to Ke'e Beach and the start of the Kalalau Trail which I would also recommend.
The property itself is well maintained and we enjoyed the beautiful landscaping around the house. The kitchen has everything you need to make meals and we used the grill on the deck almost every night. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious.
I can't say enough about Julie the property manager who was very available if we needed something but not intrusive. She is amazing.
I would highly recommend this property if you want a true Kauai experience.
We enjoyed our week greatly! Julie was very helpful whenever anything was needed. We really enjoyed the beautiful view of the ocean and the cool breezes each day. We were sad when we had to leave.
We visited Kauai several times when our kids were young, and truly loved the beauty of the Napali Coast. We hiked the trails and took it all in. Since then we have spent most of our time at the Mauna Kea on the big island. Although it is fabulous and has a great golf course we longed for the nature of Kauai. We planned a trip with friends to the big island and decided to rent a place on the north shore of Kauai for 5 days by ourselves before we went to the Mauna Kea.
I got on the internet looking for something really special with the nature we were seeking. I found Alexandra"s place and took a chance. We
got there late in the evening and it took us a while to get there. When we arrived we were blown away. Right on the ocean, beautiful landscaping, raw Hawaiian nature at it's finest. The home was meticulously clean with everything you needed. the place is quite remote and we really like it that way. We felt secure but were by ourselves. We didn't eat out one night, we wanted to be there and enjoy the nature. During our stay we probably saw 4 people walking on the beach in front of the house. Although we didn't need Julie for anything we felt she was ready at any time to help, enjoyed talking with her and learning more about the area. We will go back soon and this time take some of our kids and grandkids. Absolutely beautiful.
