Family Vacation with the Grandkids
We had an awesome time visiting the town of Twain Harte and going to the private Twain Harte Lake. Black Oak Casino was 12 min away enjoyed bowling and dinner
This is an open floor plan with lots of room for the entire family. The cabin was very clean. Very spacious bedrooms upstairs. It was nicely furnished and had plenty of towels and linens. We plan on renting this house again and highly recommend it. The driveway is steep but once I got used to it was fairly easy to maneuver.
We had 8 people and we slept comfortable. Nice neighborhood and in a great location. Fishing was good at lions lake and swimming was good for the kids. Had a blast and will definitely recommend this cabin to anyone.
Very nice well kept home in Twain Harte!
We had a nice time here. The house was clean and comfortable. The heater kept it nice and warm inside even with the snowy weather outside. It's a nice quiet neighborhood. We took advantage of the free WiFi, both to watch Netflix on the house TVs and to check email, etc. The place is fully stocked with towels, linens, dishes, utensils, etc. We'll definitely be back!
Thank you for staying! We'd be glad to have you back! This was the first winter in decades with this much snow. It harkens back to the snow falls of our child hood!
clean easy access to Twain Harte.
Driveway is very steep
We had a party of 8 and had a great stay. The road up to the cabin (Hillcrest Rd) is NOT recommended if there's any chance of black ice. We had two minor accidents as cars slid down the black ice. Rough start, but we quickly learned coming in through Ponderosa Rd was much better.
Things we loved:
* We LOVED the unmaintained road to the side of the cabin. It was the perfect, private place for our kids to sled down a long slope without a crowd and as we could watch from the window.
* Basketball hoops in the garage. We had 4 boys and this kept them entertained.
* Cabin was large enough for us to sit around comfortably.
* Kitchen had pretty good appliances/utensils/gadgets.
* Games (we brought some, too) allowed us to connect as a family when the WiFi was down.
Things that could have been better:
* WiFi connection (which is how the TV operated). There had been much snow activity before we arrived so this may have been a factor.
* Pellet stove wasn't working. The boys were looking forward to a log fireplace, but not even having the pellet stove (never actually used one) was a bummer.
We'll likely be back next season. We always hope for snow in Twain Harte, but this season there was definitely more than normal! Although it caused some chaos, our overall trip was a great time to relax and reconnect as a family.
very quaint and cozy house, needs a few upgrades
The house is exactly as pictured and described. Mike was very communicative before we arrived and sent an email and called me to make sure I understood some important information. It was overall a very nice stay for my family of four. The fireplace was not working which Mike informed me before we arrived (unfortunately we did not know this when we booked the stay). This would have been nice to have being the winter season but the furnace worked well and kept us cozy warm. The bedrooms were large and comfy and when we arrived there was WiFi and Smart TVs which was nice to be able to connect and use our Netflix account. The driveway is steep as mentioned multiple times in the description and contract and I'm so glad we had an AWD car. Location is close to town and we really enjoyed staying here.
A few things I mentioned to Mike after our stay and hopefully he will have fixed for the next guests. The front door doesn’t close unless the deadbolt is used. The dishwasher does NOT work at all. The hot water and dry cycle works but soap is pooling up in the bottom of the dishwasher and not actually washing dishes. I found this out as the dishes and cups were filthy with some red sticky liquid (eventhough they were put away in the cupboard) and I tried to wash them when we first arrived. Unfortunately everything had to be hand washed during the weekend and before using it. In both showers the water can drip unless fully turned off (which is very hard to do) and with the last draught I am very water concious. A vacuum would be nice to help clean up as I felt the carpets could have been cleaner upon arrival and I would have liked to have cleaned while there a little. The kitchen, while it does have a good amount of dishes and Pyrex lacks a toaster oven and decent wine glasses. Also there were no kitchen towels. We brought our own towels and sheets so I’m not positive but towels appeared to be older and thin. Overall we enjoyed our stay but just a few things that need a little TLC.
The dishwasher, which stopped working during your stay, was not functioning because someone turned off the water to the dishwasher. I don't know if it was one of your group or someone from the previous group. Imagine my embarrassment at not having a functioning dishwasher, getting a repair guy out there, and he gets it to work by turning on the water to it. Yes, there should have been more kitchen towels. We are working on getting a functioning fireplace. Thank you for staying and thank you for your review.
