Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Cotswold district - The Cottage, Nell House

Oak framed 2 Bedroom newly built Cottage overlooking lovely gardens and lake

The Cottage at Nell House is a beautiful oak framed conversion set in tranquil grounds and new to the rental market recently. It is located on the edge of the small country village of Hannington in the South Cotswolds where the counties of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire meet. The village has a "pub" within walking distance and is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds in your car. It is a 90 minute drive from Heathrow Airport.

The cottage has an open plan kitchen living area on the ground floor, with a well equipped kitchen including dishwasher and microwave, and a seating area including two sofas and TV. There is a twin bedroom on the ground floor as well as a toilet and shower room. The entire upstairs floor is an en-suite double bedroom with separate seating area, sofa and TV. The cottage is in the landscaped grounds of Nell House, with a large decking area (with BBQ) overlooking the lake and surrounded by wildlife such as moorhens, ducks, fish and if you're lucky deer and a kingfisher.

There are extensive grounds including a croquet lawn and fields with farm animals.

Idyllic Nell House

  • 5 of 5

Nell House is a totally idyllic stay, far enough from the hustle of big cities to feel tranquil yet close enough too many major attractions to be convenient. James and Jo were lovely, hospitable and helpful. The cottage itself is perfect for a family of four, including a little one. The surround is breathtaking, we loved listening to the sheep, cows, and birds while sitting near the pond and watching the moorhen chicks scurry around. We would love to return to the Nell House and take in more of the quaint villages that surround it.

Cotswold Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Nell House Cottage, we arrived late but the owners provided perfect directions and the cottage was immaculately presented. What a delight to wake up to the noise of the birds and sheep from the surrounding fields. Such a wonderful morning, sitting on the back deck, overlooking the pond with a cup of tea, The cottage is well stocked with everything you could need and the owners were good enough to suggest food delivery stores who could deliver on time for our arrival as well as a stocked freezer for our use (pay as you go) if we needed. The pictures on the HomeAway site are accurate, as are the description, the owners were friendly and available to answer any questions and I would highly recommend this property to friends and relatives. You absolutely need a car, the cottage is off the beaten track. We enjoyed the food at the Jolly Tar pub although the landlord was a little grumpy.

We stayed at the Nell House Cottage for one week in June 2016. We had a wonderful quiet relaxing stay at the cottage.

The grounds are beautiful and James and Jo were very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the Nell House Cottage.

We visited many local villages and participated in some local events during our visit.

The booking experience was efficient and all needed information was available before we left our home in Canada. The pictures of the cottage as seen on the web are exactly as they are in real time. All equipment for kitchen. bathrooms etc are first rate. Definitely would stay again and would recommend 100%

5 Stars for a 5 Star Holiday Destination

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent our Easter holiday a Nell house and we could not have wished for better. Having done our homework on the area prior to coming so there were no problems with the rural location. We were met on first morning by the owner James just to give us a quick overview of the property prior to him going away for the weekend, he also left his contact details just in case there were any problems while he was away

As for the property it had everything we could have needed for our weeks stay, all the appliances were easy to use, there could be an issue for some people about the shape of the ceiling on the first floor but it is more quirky than a hindrance and adds to the character of the property. There were sheep in the field behind and a pond in front with ducks and the occasional heron, and when the sun was out the decking was the perfect setting.

The area has many varied locations and is an excellent base to explore whatever you are after, there is also an abundance of information at the cottage to plan your days out which is handy if you do not know the area. All in all we had a fantastic week and would recommend this cottage to anyone.

The Cottage at Nell House is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds close to both Cirencester (the 'Capital of the Cotswolds') and the Cotswold Water Park.

Although situated in a picturesque quiet rural village, there are plenty of attractions only a short drive away.

The beautiful market town of Cirencester has lovely shops, restaurants, pubs and markets. There is also the Corinium Museum.

Fairford Royal International Air Tattoo is in July annually. It is a huge event and we are only a short drive or cycle away. As we are so close, you also get to see many of the planes without having to leave the garden!

Swindon Designer Outlet has a huge selection of designer shops and reduced prices. As it is inside it also makes an excellent rainy day excursion!

STEAM is situated next to the Designer Outlet and is a lovely museum detailing the history of the Great Western trains.

Westonbirt Arboretum has thousands of trees and some wonderful walks.

Lechlade-on-Thames has the unusual Christmas Shop, open most of the year, and the beautiful River Thames.

Stow-on-the-Wold is full of quaint tea shops and old pubs. There are lovely, individual shops there.

Birdland Park and Gardens is a good family trip. It is located in the picturesque town of Bourton-on-the-Water which is also home to a model village.

Cotswold Wildlife Park, near Burford, is a great day out. There is a brilliant giraffe house where you stand level with the animals' heads and can watch them eating.

The beautiful city of Bath with its wonderful architecture, Roman Baths, and fascinating shops is definitely worth a trip.

Chedworth Roman Villa has some beautifully preserved mosaics and is set in lovely countryside.

Burford town has some lovely old pubs, a beautiful river and shops.

Fairford is small but well worth a visit. It has a fantastic 15th Centuary church which is the only parish church in the country to have a complete set of late medieval glass.

The Living Rainforest is a lovely half-day trip. The variety of plants and birds is amazing and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Oxford is a busy, vibrant university town. Apart from the large selection of shops and restaurants there is the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library, Oxford Castle (ruins), the Radcliffe Camera, the Oxford University Press Museum, University of Oxford Botanic Garden, the various colleges and churches, University Museum of Natural History, and the Bridge of Sighs, to name but a few!

Bristol is about 1 hour away. It has a large, out of town shopping centre, Cribbs Causeway, as well as 'in town' shops like Cabot Circus. Bristol Zoo is another favourite trip out and houses some gorillas. @tBristol is a fantastic hands on science museum.

Cheltenham is home to horse racing, as well as being a beautiful regency town.

Golf courses are plentiful in the area. The nearest is Wragbarn, but slightly further afield are Bowood, Frilford Heath, and the Oxford Golf Club. There is an unusual golf course in Minchinhampton, where you have to play while avoiding the cattle who have the run of the course.
