Overview

About the property

6 room house with garden 3 Bedrooms 3 ensuite marble bathrms pool tennis court

This beautiful property is a part of an old authentic farm situated on the top of one of hills West of Castellina in Chianti. Casa Virginia has no stairs and you can walk straight to your private garden. The site has a marvellous view over endless rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves and is truly unique. Friends of its owners say the view is absolutely breathtaking on arrival. An Olympic size swimming pool plus childrens pool and tennis court is about 150 metres away at the other end of the grounds. There is easy access to Siena 12km and to Florence 48km by car on a free motorway or by local train. Train is a very relaxing way to make day visits. (EinBauernhaus nur 6 km von hier auf einem Huegel mit grossartiger Aussicht). Castellina is 6km up with excellent shops and food and first class restaurants! The house has its own garden offering privacy and an outdoor dining area with an incredible view of the surrounding countryside. The property faces West. Sunset with the sun sinking over the hills forty miles away or dawn with mist rising over the towers of San Gimignano are memorable. Look at the breakfast picture. We have Wfi & SatTV.

Wild life abounds as the area is protected and the woods around are full of various type of deer, wild boar, porcupines, red squirrels even in the garden, hares, all can be seen from time to time. Where else can you be swimming in a pool a watch a Golden eagle, or see a Pregrine Falcon hunting?

The whole farmstead dating from the 16th century was bought in 1986 by its current owner and others and converted into seven private houses. The surrounding gardens are beautifully maintained by our own gardener employed by the condominium. We also employ an estate manager and a housekeeper. So on arrival the rooms are all ready with towels and beds prepared. The estate has a full Olympic size swimming pool and a smaller safety pool for children. There is a well maintained hard tennis court and a boules court. (Riesiger Swimmingpool mit Sprungbrett und Tennisplatz laden zur Erfrischung und zum Sport ein).

Our house Casa Virginia was the original milking parlour and grain store. The property is all on one floor with only two steps down from the kitchen into the dining room, the only steps in the house.

There are no staircases, useful if you are slightly impaired. Most rooms are spacious with two of the bedrooms having doors directly into the garden. The old grain store is now a splendid sitting room with high ceilings and an open Tuscan fireplace that may be used in winter. There is good central heating for winter stays

Although a quiet and secluded location, it is only 7 km to the highway exit and 6km to the local train station that can take you to Siena or Florence. Siena itself is 12km away via the autostrada a twenty minute drive.

The interior is well fitted with three beautiful marble bathrooms attached to each bedroom. The kitchen has a gas electric cooker and there is a large fridge and freezer. Cutlery etc is prepared for seating up to eight persons.

Casa Virginia has its own private vineyard and makes its own wine. Although a part of a large farmstead Casa Virginia has its own garden that is secluded and not seen by other residents. It is also farthest from the swimming pool and tennis court and not disturbed by noise, all in all a lovely family house as used for the last 29 years by the family. You will not be disappointed!

Yes you must have a car and be prepared to drive along unmade roads. We have WiFi

About Jacky Wilby, the manager spk Eng/Italian or Ian Sutherland (owner) directly.

As an English family we wanted sunshine! So in 1986 as luck would have it we saw and bought a large undeveloped hill farmstead just outside Seina and developed the site with six others ourselves. This we have used for last twenty- -eight years as our Italian family home. Recently my wife died and we are renting it now as the younger family are growing up with grandchildren who love it, but don't visit it so often. The pools (2) and the tennis court are loved and great fun for everybody. For car buffs the Mille Miglia replica route passes within 1 km and also stops for refreshments about 20km away so a grand day out can be had seeing some of the finest old cars in the world. The rally is held every year in mid May, a glorious time to visit Italy. But its a glorious place all the time!

Why Jacky Wilby, the manager spk Eng/Italian or Ian Sutherland (owner) directly. chose Siena

When purchased it was a wonderful opportunity to develop a house to our own design and use the local artisan workers who make such beautiful things. The wooden bedroom ceilings and wonderful and the handmade metal lamps and lampholders are all locally made.

What makes this house unique

The house is made for easy living. It is all on one floor with only two internal steps and no stairs climbing upto bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms open directly to the garden, a lovely place to draw up a chair and settle down with good book, a drink to hand and watch the glorious sunset as the sun sets over the horizon forty miles away. We have out own vineyard, small but producing 60 to 80 high quality (truly organic!) Chianti from the four classic grape varieties we grow. Tasters are on offer!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful relaxing week and beautiful countryside. A fantastic place and breathtaking view from the garden with outdoor meals. Kids loved the pool and tennis before it got too hot! The house and Tuscan barn so easy to live in. Great Kate Jon Harry James and Lara

Exceeded Expectations +++

  • 5 of 5

The most incredible views we’ve seen, and we’ve been all over. Loved Castellina in Chianti the most. Siena, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni were great to see, but C-in-C was way out front our favorite. The pool and tennis were way more than expected, stunning views from poolside. All the equipment you need is there. Villa restored from 1500’s structure feels authentic, but with modern expectations. More than enough great restaurants near by. Kitchen great for cooking in. Cannot say enough about the VIEW, we were out in the garden or under the gazebo unless we were at the pool or tennis. Jacky was always helpful whenever we had a question. Wanted to stay another week.

Wonderful countryside and fabulous wildlife with marvellous restaurants at reasonable prices. Children love the heated pool and the wildlife that abounds. Watch golden eagles soar from the garden and red squirrels live in the garden. Wild boar are seen too. There are European Porcupines that visitors have sighted, very rare and only seen a nights. Visit Etruscan tombs in Castellina. Easy drive to Castellina for a choice of restaurants, the famous 'Torre' or to Siena, 20mins by car, visit the Campo, climb the tower and explore an unspoilt medieval city. Market days in all the towns and villages. View the sun rising over San Gimingnano from our garden at breakfast. Our breathtaking view. Then visit it, only 20 km for a walk around its seven tours. Try its world famous ice cream. Our friends and visitors say the garden view is absolutely stunning. In Siena visit the museums and look at medieval armour and take lunch in the Campo. Then of course you can train to Florence, no parking! and spend a glorious day viewing a masterpiece a history, its buildings, churches and of course the museum of art. Le Bagnaie is perfectly situated to have a glorious holiday.
