About Elaine Turley

Elaine and Bill began visiting Hatteras Island and fell in love with the beaches here in 2005. Elaine loves Outer Banks scuba diving and enjoys the 40 minute drive along Route 12 surrounded by ocean and sound views to go South and dive the wrecks in the Gulf Stream or North to visit the unique wrecks in the Labrador Current. Bill prefers golf up North and the location of this home serves both passions. Family and friends stay active daily kayaking or paddleboarding across the road and we always include a parasailing excursion, available South on Hatteras Island or North on the upper island. Elaine does yoga and meditation on the upper deck and Bill does his daily run around the neighborhood. Whatever the activity, all enjoy cooling off in the private pool with solar heating or soothing our muscles in the Jacuzzi hot tub.

Elaine and Bill hope their guests share their concern for maintaining and preserving the incredible beauty of the Outer Banks' natural environment and elsewhere. We ask that you help us protect our environment by limiting waste and garbage and conserving our natural resources.

Why Elaine Turley chose Salvo

We started visiting Outer Banks in 2005 with our extended family, some of whom lived in North Carolina. When some of our family members were no longer able to visit with us in Outer Banks we decided we were here to stay and bought A Shore Thing with the hopes of spending lots of time here when we retire in the next decade. And for now, we visit as much as possible.

What makes this house unique

Lots of space with a number of decks off to the side so everyone can find their space. We love the ocean and the views from the upper deck. It is our family tradition to meet on the top deck for breakfast in the morning and at night for ice cream under the amazing clear starry sky with the sound of the ocean waves surrounding us.

Wonderful experience, beautiful clean and a great location.

  • 5 of 5

My family (10 people) and I stayed here for a week in July 2018. We had a wonderful time, the house is very clean and is equipped with everything you need to have a great vacation. The pool and hot tub were perfect for rainy days and evening swims, both were clean and well maintained. The beaches are very close, a walk away. We also walked to some of the shops in town. We enjoyed the upper deck every morning, I will bring my coffee up, sit on the deck and enjoy the view and the sound of the waves. I will recommend this home to all. Loved our vacation and will book this place whenever we go to Outer Banks. Elaine was great at responding to email and very efficient. We loved A Shore Thing.

very clean / great value

  • 4 of 5

Home owners were very helpful and prompt to answer all questions. The house was exactly as described. It was very well stocked with extra pillows and blankets found in closets. The kitchen had all the essentials needed, even plastic containers for extra food storage. We had 5 teenagers,16 and older who loved the pool and hot tub. Although, the wicker furniture in main living area was uncomfortable for our group of 7 to hang out comfortably.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry it took a while to respond, Laura. I am so glad that you loved A Shore Thing and the beautiful Outer Banks. I was inspired by you to add a crock pot when I come down in August! We would love to have you back next year!

Spacious and clean!!

  • 5 of 5

I'm writing this from a mom's perspective- three kids - three adults. This home was immaculate and very spacious! We appreciated the multiple bathrooms (4) as no one had to wait to shower after beach or pool time. The pool has solar heat and was warm so even on a cloudy day, we could enjoy the pool and hot tub! Basketball was fun (there are several balls on site) and there are pool games and lawn games as well! Even the pool lounge chair pads were in great shape! The kitchen is well stocked with anything (utensil and dish) that you could need and there are even board games on the top floor in a cupboard by sink that we discovered on our last day there (by airhockey table). Shore Details provides a starter pack of toilet paper (4 rolls), small dish soap and sponge, paper towel roll, and laundry detergent (for one load). You will need to pack more toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher tabs, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, hand soap pumps for bathrooms, and tissues. The dish detergent given in start pack was enough to last us the week. The beds were clean and mattresses are encased in plastic so no worries re: bugs. The beds were not amazing comfort wise but we've slept on worse. That was our only con - the beds- so if you have back issues know that. The walk to beach is not far - down to stop sign- turn left- few houses down is path. Now the path is long up over dunes and the sand is really hot so know this esp. if you have young kids - wear water shoes or something on path. The pool is bigger than pics make it out to be - was lovely! There are several beach buggies, beach chairs and boogie boards on site. The beach chairs are smaller and some are a bit rusty and the boogie boards would only be good for smaller children (they are foam). There is a closeline under house which was amazing! Also outside shower with both hot and cold water, right next to that was a spicket to wash feet (there's also one in pool area), and there's even a hose under house to wash sand off all beach items. Gas grill was clean and tank was full. Screened in porch area has picnic table and multiple chairs. Each deck has ample seating. Our favorite was top deck at night with rockers. Bring bug spray if you'll be outside at night- mosquitos are annoying. Highly recommend! Perfect layout for families!!!!!
