Located in the beautiful Berkshires, MA, the home is located in a desired neighborhood known as "the Hill.” The property is on a quiet no outlet road that leads to the Aston Magna Estate. The 5000 sqf home sits on 2.5 acres and every window looks out on trees.
The house is close to everything, both the best of downtown and the best of nature. Connections to the Appalachian trail within 10 minutes. Lake Mansfield, which features a beach with lifeguard, is a short 10 min walk. The Green River, with a swimming hole, is a 15 min hike through the woods. Popular Berkshire attractions such as Tanglewood and Jacob's Pillow are within a 20 to 30 minute drive, respectively. The popular ski resorts of Ski Butternut and Catamount are within a 10 minute drive.
Great Barrington was once listed as one of the best small towns in America. The good and bad news is that is a 1 hour or 2 hour drive to reach any large chain store. However, the local businesses off of Main Street are thriving and diverse. There is a nice mix of tasteful high end shopping and local artisans. There are great local ice cream stores, candy stores, toy stores, juice spots, fancy coffee shops, and a small movie theater. Regarding dining, the nightlife and food is surprisingly good for a small town and we can leave a list of our favorite restaurants. They rival what you'd expect from a good restaurant in a big city. In the summer, there are farmers markets with locally grown veggies and fresh cut flowers.
The house was built in 1910 and has been lovingly renovated and restored from the ground up. Many original details were restored to new condition (windows, radiators and the like) and modern conveniences added. There is central air conditioning, whole home audio system, movie room w/ mounted 65 inch 4k television, double pane windows, heated floors in the bathrooms and kitchen, and gourmet cook's kitchen. There is a second television in the den for when the kids don't want to watch the same movie as the adults. Time Warner Cable, Sony Playstation, and multiple streaming devices all updated to 4K technology. There are two wood burning fireplaces downstairs, making it homey during the winter.
The outdoor living space includes a large screened in porch, an oversized stone patio, and a mahogany deck with 9-person sunken spa. In summer, there is a ping pong table that usually gets well used on the screened porch. There is a second 6-person dining table on the porch for relaxing summer meals in the fresh air. Weber Grill on stone patio for summer meals.
Regarding pets, we have a dog that does not shed, has never bitten the furniture, and has never had an accident inside. If you're truly allergic to dogs, this might not be great for you because a dog has lived in the house. (Though you'd never know it). If you have a dog that is as clean as our dog, it's probably not a problem to bring your pooch but we may require a deposit as we've just bought new floor rugs and some new furniture.
Enjoy the pictures. They will be updated over the next few months as we finish putting the house together.
