We are a husband-wife team that left Madrid for Spain’s deep south and a change of ...well, virtually everything really! We came up with the idea of Dos Xtremos in 2006, the catalyst being the need to increase the number of people renting our own properties, one in La Coruña and the other in Cadiz (Atlantic Spain’s two wonderful extremes). And since then, even though the business has grown (we now manage a number of properties for other owners), our goal has always been the same: “these are two wonderful and relatively undeveloped areas of Spain that have brought us enormous happiness; so let’s try and tell other people about them!” For this reason, the website has a heavy focus on regional information and includes details on the activities that we enjoy, both individually and as a family with young children.
All our houses are in the provinces of La Coruña and Cadiz, although there is a significant bias towards Cadiz, because that is where we live! Each house has been chosen because it has something special to offer, and we have tried to ensure that the mix meets a variety of tastes and requirements. In the case of the Cadiz properties, we live close by, meaning we are on-hand for problem solving and making recommendations. You may prefer to lounge by the pool (all our pools are very tempting), but if you do want to explore, we have suggestions to fill a lot more than two weeks! As for La Coruña, we personally are a long way away, but the properties are well looked after and our list of recommendations is even longer (to offset the less predictable weather!) We have a close and productive working relationship with all our owners, and we believe this shows in the way our properties are maintained.
We had a wonderful week in Casa del Medico. As a party of 8 (4 adults, 4 children), we found the house extremely spacious and could spread ourselves out completely. The interior of the house is pleasantly decorated and reflects the fact that this is a much loved family home. The kitchen is very well equipped and there were numerous bath/shower rooms. Outside, the garden is just brilliant - having the large swimming pool fenced off meant that we could relax and know that the kids were safe when they were outside. It is a little shady in the pool area but that is probably good news in high summer when temperatures are even higher. The garden area goes all around the house and provides a huge space to play games. We also made good use of the table tennis table, the bikes and the fabulous terrace area.
The house is a 10 minute walk from the beach, which is an absolutely lovely one with long stretches of golden sand and very few people (I assume it becomes more crowded during the summer season). There are also great tennis courts a short walk/bike ride away, which we made good use of, plus a decent children's playground, shop and cafe.
Roche is a 15 minute drive to Conil, which is a lovely Spanish seaside town with relatively few tourists. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and bars plus a fantastic beach. There are also good restaurants closer to home, which Andrew, the property manager, can tell you all about.
Andrew provides an extremely pleasant and efficient management service for Casa del Medico and other houses in the Roche area. The only minor issues we had (replacement of a few lightbulbs and provision of extra tea towels) were sorted out very quickly and he was always on hand to provide recommendations and book tennis courts for us etc.
I throughly recommend Casa del Medico. As other reviewers have commented, it isn't absolutely modern and pristine like some other houses in Roche, but with young children around, that's perfect for us and we spent most of our time outside enjoying the garden.
I am truly speechless, this is by far the most stunning villa in the most desirable location we have ever visited.
For a large group of 12 – 6 adults and 6 children, ages 2 to 10 years, this villa catered for absolutely everything. It was more spacious then expected, modern but cosy with excellent clean and well positioned facilities. Plenty of bathrooms / toilets and the beds were all really comfortable, all rooms had a homely feel too, not generic or minimalist but it possessed a real charming character of its own.
The garden was extremely large with a pool which was cleverly fenced off, if you have small children it’s a god send! The table tennis was a real hit and the BBQ provided some excellent sirloin steaks. The villa was fenced off all the way around, so it felt really private and safe for wondering toddlers. Parking was perfect for 2 to 3 cars with roadside space in abundance outside the security gate.
Andrew, the Property Manager was so helpful, extremely polite and was reassuring throughout, as he would respond quickly if we had any queries. By far the most personable and approachable person we have met in a similar role. His service was just impeccable, from the initial booking stage right through to the end, his service alone is worth all five stars.
The area of Roche has a unique gentle pace to it, you feel totally relaxed, with a small walk to the beach, a beer and some tapas at the bars in the centre where the kids can play in the playground - simply beautiful, even jaw dropping to the amazing villas on display in this exclusive place.
the location is also ideal for visits to Cadiz, Jerez and closer still to Conil, Los Canos De Meca, and the white washed fortress named, Vejer, a must see place, also recommended by Andrew.
There are plenty of great places to eat, one of the best was a beach hut in Conil called, Ole tapas, only accessible via the beach, a must for a sunset stroll and food. Closer to Roche there is an amazing pizzeria, 3km through the forest, with a buzzing atmosphere, also offering take out.
We sincerely had an amazing trip, I have already recommended this to many others and will certainly be contacting Andrew soon to discuss our next visit.
I hope you enjoy as much as we did.
The house is very spacious and easily accommodated our three families, without us being on top of each other. We spent most of our time, whilst at the villa, in the garden and pool. The outside is beautiful and great for families with young children as the pool is completely fenced off so they can have the run of the garden in safety. Our children also loved the pool, that was kept really clean by the pool man and having an outdoor toilet by it was very handy. Only thing I would say is that the pool is quite deep, so little ones need to be close at hand. The house itself was clean and comfortable and any issues we had, like needing an extra key, was dealt with extremely quickly and efficiently. The house could do with updating a little but to be honest, everything is in full working order and with young children I would much rather be in a house that I'm not worried about them bumping into and breaking something rather than a modern show home! The area itself is very well equipped with everything you need in walking distance, local shop, a few bars and restaurants and even a Pilates and zumba class! Further afield is also easily reached by car, and pretty straight forward. The owners have kindly left a whole book of their recommendations and they are pretty spot on.The beach is lovely, and even when it was really busy you still could find enough space. There is a great beach bar that does some fabulous mojitos, perfect for watching the sun set over the sea with. All in all a great place to holiday with family and friends, would definitely recommend.
Villa lived up to expectations and grounds were spacious for eating, sunbathing, games and swimming. Everything was clean, well equipped and well maintained. Plenty to entertain our 4 year old, when we could get him out of the pool! Customer service was excellent before and during our stay. Fairly quiet around the area but bicycles were really useful to get to restaurants etc. Great decor for cat-lovers!
Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The property had everything we could possibly need, and the location was unbeatable. The nearby beach was incredible!!
A large comfortable holiday home in a quiet neighbourhood. The house was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was maybe a little dated but very well equipped. A lovely large terrace and a good barbeque. The large attractive garden was secure and the swimming pool well fenced . Excellent for both small children and dogs. The manager was very helpful. The beautiful, clean, uncrowded Atlantic beaches are about half a mile away. An easy walk or use the bicycles provided. Lots of good restaurants near by. Vejer old town is well worth visiting.
Easy drive to Jerez (sherry houses), Cádiz (possibly Europe's oldest city), Tarifa (and the boat to Tanger), the wonders of Seville, and the intriguing pueblos blancos (white villages), including Vejer-de-la-Frontera. This is the Spain of fighting bulls and flamenco, ferias and finos, and fine simple food. Visit the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudio, the lighthouse at Cape Trafalgar, the old tuna fishing port of Sancti Petri. 30% of the province of Cádiz is National Park, and here you will find green rolling hills, more akin to Ireland or Wales but divided by giant cactus hedges, one of the world's most important cork forests, and a micro climate within the Alcornocales park that is regarded as the last Mediterranean jungle.
Easy walk to the chemist, newspaper, hot bread, mini market, and bar; also to the playground, tennis, and 5-aside soccer. 20-minute walk down beach to fine restaurants and a heavenly spa! Yet at night all you will hear are the waves, nightingales, and owls!
Other Activities: whale watching, bird watching, kite surfing, kayaking, ballooning,
