A true delight
I speak for a group of 5 retirees who stayed at the Dark Horse Glen Sept 8-15, 2018 during our Glacier National Park/ northwestern Montana trip. What a great excursion at a beautiful time! This home fit our needs and wants perfectly; it was beautiful, relaxing, comfortable, quiet, and secluded, yet only minutes from Columbia Falls and Whitefish (groceries, restaurants) and GNP. One week was not enough time to explore everywhere we wanted to go, nor was it enough time to relax at the "cabin". We were blessed to meet KC, the owner, early in the week; she is very nice and helpful and a delight to talk to. We echo the delight expressed by other reviewers of watching the animals (especially the deer) on the property. The online information and reviews are spot on (although there is now a coffee grinder for the coffee that KC provided). Also, the home's manager, Holly, was very easy to work with and promptly replied to any messages. We loved this home and hated to leave. Thanks for sharing, KC!
Peaceful escape surrounded by beautiful flowers and nature
We stayed at this lovely home Aug 7-10, 2018. Everything was ready for us when we arrived and there were no complications getting to the home or getting inside. The home is well stocked with cookware, toiletries, towels, blankets, sheets etc. We spent most of our time at Galcier Park and a day at Flat Head Lake on a boat that we rented. Luckily, we missed the new fires that are at the Park by one day. We had a lovely dinner at Lake McDonald Lodge in the park. We also cooked at the house a few dinners. the grocery store is very close to the house. We had 5 adults and there was plenty of space, with room for more folks to sleep in a shared bedroom. Overall, we would rate this a top place to stay. The only challenge is wanting to be at this beautiful place but that conflicts with all the other adventures and beautiful scenery that you can enjoy at the parks. Thank you for your hospitality!
Great location, close to GNP, Kalispell, and Whitefish. Everything as advertised. We couldn't, as a family, want more. It helped to make our vacation the success it was. We would definitely return again.
The only thing that I would change is to get a coffee pot that shuts off automatically (luckily this was not an issue). The house was amazing. the amenities, the touches and the warm welcome - truly felt like coming home. We would stay here again for sure.
The last week of July, 2018 our family arrived by train into Whitefish late on a Friday night. After securing provisions from a 24 hour grocery store nearby we found our way (in the dark) to the Dark Horse Glen (how appropriate). Upon lighting the interior space our jaws dropped. Preliminary pictures captured our attention, but seeing the space in person was ... spectacular!
The next morning we beheld a beautiful meadow beyond the vaulted interior living room and wrap-around deck. Throughout the week we enjoyed grazing cattle and deer; so peaceful. All of the accommodations were as promised, and more. The kitchen is splendidly equipped with most every appliance you could want, although you should grind your coffee before arriving (no coffee grinder). Otherwise there wasn't much missing. Even the outside grill was easy to use. We grilled steak, salmon, burgers, veggies, corn on the cob and much more.
KC, the owner, has thought of everything a guest might want. From ample sleeping accommodations (3 king beds +), a first rate fire pit & chairs for bonfires, a wonderful lawn for croquet, a superbly supplied kitchen, lots of deck chairs, a spectacular living room with two leather couches, a leather easy chair/ottoman, a TV to write home about and deck dining to enjoy the outdoors. In spite of only two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bathtub, our group of seven managed just fine.
The cabin is within easy driving distance of Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Kalispell and, of course, Glacier National Park (GNP). We hiked at GNP six of the seven days, with a rest day to enjoy the cabin and explore the surrounding towns, each of which is unique.
By the end of the week we were sad to leave. The Dark Horse Glen felt like home.
If you are seeking a wonderful cabin/luxury home in a quiet, serene setting, but close to NW MT towns and GNP, this is the place. We will remember our time at the Dark Horse Glen for a long time, and hope to return in the future.
Wonderful location, clean, quiet, convenient to the park, but...
Wonderful location, clean, quiet, convenient to the park. If you have difficulty with stairs this may not be the place for you. Wish there had been at least a half bath in the loft where the master bedroom is, and a full bath with shower on the main level (only a tub in that bathroom, no bedrooms on main level). If you wanted a shower you had to go to the basement, we prefer taking a shower. All the beds had firm mattresses, something else to consider if you prefer a soft bed. Other than that, we absolutely loved the place, very tastefully decorated, beautiful original art work, well stocked kitchen. The owner provided some very nice welcome gifts and fresh flowers! Flowers in the yard were beautiful, loved the wraparound porch, very peaceful setting. This made us wish we owned a cabin in the woods!
The town of Columbia Falls is minutes from the house. It has several restaurants, grocery stores, banks, bakery, gyms, post office.
