|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
Le Petit Gite is located in the village, close to the river with a lovely beach for relaxing and swimming. The accommodation consists of a living space with a fully-equipped kitchen, a double bedroom, summer bathroom and there is also a daybed for children or a friend downstairs. There is a beautiful garden where you can eat, play boules or just relax and look at the view of the river and canyon. Guests also have use of a canoe for reaching the other side of the river or making small trips upstream.
It is perfect for a couple who are interested in cycling, walking, canoeing or just chilling by the river. It is situated within the property of a cycle hire business: www.mellowvelos.com from whom you can hire mountain bikes, road bikes, electric bikes, kid's bikes and comfort bikes. It is 5kms from Ste Enimie, the capital of the Gorges du Tarn, and where there are shops, bars and restaurants.
We relocated from the UK in 2012 with our animals in order to be in this beautiful part of the world and to run our cycle hire business.
Tessa Meijer purchased this cottage in 2011
We have been visiting this region for 17 years before moving here and know the area and its attractions very well.
This area is special for its beauty, tranquillity and potential for walking, cycling and water sports. Even in the middle of the summer when there are lots of tourists it is possible to find yourself alone in the wilderness.
Petit gite is just that and has everything needed for a couple to make it a base from which to explore the incredible Tarn Gorges and surrounding countryside and villages.
We loved our stay - great place to wake up in and take the dog for a walk along the river bank. Great place to come home to after a day out and about. Filled with everything needed to make yourself at home.
Tessa and Geoff - very helpful and kind and thoughtful - thank you guys! Bicycle experts!
The gite was clean, quiet and cosy, we loved the location but best of all the hosts Tessa and Geoff were fantastic.
Tessa had beautiful home made bread for us when we arrived! We really appreciated that and ate every bit of it.
Tessa and Geoff were happy to help with local information, Geoff even had their canoe ready for us to use on the day we walked to St Eminie.
We loved their dog Django and cat Leo, it just made the stay even more special.
We are so glad we stayed with them, so relaxing! Thank you Tessa and Geoff!
Following a gasp at crossing the Millau Viaduct, on coming down into the gorge from Clermont Ferrand direction we both said and even heartier "wow". The Tarn gorge is simply breathtaking.
Sainte Enimie is a lovely, though busy, little village with some nice eateries. In either direction along the gorge there are some absolutley beautiful villages/hamlets to explore, let alone the landscape.
Tessa and Geoff are around 5/10 minutes outside Sainte Enimie (by car - unfortunatley a car is pretty essential to get there, but once there you can then take advantage of Tessa and Geoff's bike hire service!).
The gorge is hilly and the Tarn is a 5 min walk down from the gite, where you can swim in the gently flowing river - either in the deeper pool formed by the weir or in the natural river that follows. It was apparently a little low and slow when were there, but is always safely swimmable and utterly delightful.
There lots of river based activities available nearby and with the bike hire you can discover the area under your own power.
We choose trips to nearby villages, long leisurely swims and relaxing by the tarn with a book, watching the canoes puttle by.
The gite is small but perfect for eating and sleeping - you'll spend most of the time out or in the nice garden which is next to the gite -we eat breakfast and our dinners there.
Tessa and Geoff were wonderful hosts.
Not only when we were there, but beforehand happily organising our dog's vet check-up (required prior to returning to the UK) a couple of months before we were due to stay with them.
They were full of brilliant suggestions on there to go & what to do, and couldn't do enough to make our stay a delight. I think they recognised our desire to relax, so weren't too upset when we didn't seem too interested in hiring bikes. Our dog was thoroughly spoilt and happliy played with their lovely dog Django.
All in all a lovely place to stay, both because of our lovely hosts and the wonderful sights and sounds of the Tarn.
Thoroughly recommended. We hope we can return.
A lovely stay in an authentic village in the stunning Gorges du Tarn, away from the busy tourist towns for peace and relaxation, but only 10 minutes by bike from the bustle of St Enimie, considered one of France's most beautiful villages.
Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating, and the gite was so charming, it was a great place to spend some time and to get to know the region from.
You can't get any closer to the Tarn unless paddling in a kayak! Located in an area of natural beauty not to be missed this Gite is ideally located for those wishing to walk, cycle, kayak or simply laze alongside the river. Tessa and Geoff run a busy cycle hire from the yard and their knowledge of the area is fantastic. As hosts they are easy to chat to, dog lovers and great providers of home made bread. We felt very at home in this property, whilst compact it had everything we needed following a day of activity. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again already!
Merci
The Gorges du Tarn is a huge limestone canyon which makes for a stunning location for a holiday. The river is ideal for swimming, canoeing and canyoning. There is a lot of climbing available and it is a fantastic area for cycling. The gite is located on the property of a cycle hire business where you can choose from many different types of bikes.
The walking in the region is excellent with a large number of well-marked hiking trails and farm tracks to choose from. You can either walk along the river on up on the plateaus where you will have a very different taste of the region.
There are many local restaurants and bars along the Gorges ranging from small bistros to chateaus. There are also plenty of markets throughout the year, including a night-time summer market in the centre of Ste Enimie.
