Cozy lake front cottage on a beautiful sandy point with 2 acres and panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The cottage features an enclosed porch facing the lake, an outdoor dining deck with charcoal grill, swimming raft, dock, and use of 1 canoe and 2 kayaks. Enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking, and peaceful moonlit canoe rides. Situated halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor, the cottage is ideally located for day trips. It's a short 7 mile drive to beautiful Camden Harbor's unique shops, excellent restaurants, and oceanfront parks.
Honeymoon Cottage is located on Hobbs Pond, about 7 miles west of Camden. The Pond is approximately 5 miles in circumference, and is kept clean by constant mountain runoff. It is very quiet and peaceful, marked with beautiful, haunting calls of loons and other wildlife, which is abundant. A canoe and two kayaks are available for your use. The area is very rural, but there is tennis, golf, restaurants and shopping, as well as various tourist attractions, all within a 15 minute drive.
We were looking for a quiet getaway on any type of body of water to get our minds off of work. Bottom line, loved it! The only con I would need to give is the beds. House was clean and beautifully kept. Updated bathroom and kitchen was beautiful. Everything listed on the description was accurate, nothing was a surprise. The owners were extremely organized and had all important phone numbers as well as any other information needed in case of emergency.
I love history and keeping precious things in the family - this house is just that. A family treasure passed down from generation since 1922. It had that old cabin feel - well, because it is an old cabin! Reminds me of a family house I used to stay at most summers when I was a kid. The house is located perfectly on the pond; large front and side yards for play, and a good spaced yard in the back where the house faces the water to also play.
We sat on the Adirondack chairs on the grass, or sometimes sat in the beautiful porch while sipping our coffee or wine, and stared out at the beautiful sunset/sunrise over the pond, or read a book all while listening to the loons and frogs chirp (love those sounds!). There is also a small beach to sit and relax on your beach chair. They had a canoe and two kayaks we could use. We jumped off the dock to swim, then played corn hole, wiffle ball, frisbee and board games while cooking on the charcoal grill. After dinner we watched movies on the flat screen TV with DVD player. No cable, no wifi ... just back to basics on the water. I really enjoyed watching the kids have fun with these basics and figuring out how to keep themselves busy.
One other plus about this house, is its location. Just a few minutes from Camden ME, we went to the Camden Hills State Park and hiked Mt. Battie, shopped and ate on the harbor ... lots to do there. Also not too far from restaurants, shopping and movies in Rockland. The owners have a booklet with instructions as well as a list of "things to do". One of our favorite restaurants is located just a few minutes from the house in Hope called the Hatchet Mountain Publick House. Great American food, reasonably priced and terrific, warm atmosphere with a wood stove and bar. My daughter is a very picky eater, had the 'best' mozzarella sticks she's ever had.
