About the property

Give us a call--we love chatting about Homer, our cottage, about life, or whatever!

And welcome to Little Fireweed Cottage in Homer, Alaska! We strive to ensure that your experience at our cottage is one that stays with you forever. Whether you are in Homer just to relax and soak in the breathtaking views or here to dive into the multitude of outdoor activities this unique area of the world offers, we are confident that your stay at Little Fireweed Cottage will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Before we discovered the jewel that is Homer, we traveled around the world and stayed in many vacation homes along the way. We have taken many of those things, which we enjoyed the most when staying in those homes and have tried to incorporate them into our vacation rental.

Just recently built in 2006 on one and a half private acres, Little Fireweed Cottage was made to serve as a retreat and a home-away-from-home for those traveling for the 'Homer experience'. After a long day of fishing for halibut, sightseeing, or hiking, come home to cook up your seafood just the way you like it on the barbecue grill.

Pour yourself a glass of wine from one of our bottles on site and ponder whether it is time to melt away in the very brand new hot tub with its grand views or whether that should wait until after the movie you are going to watch on the flat-screen TV/home theater. If you're a night owl, there's always the fire pit up on the hill, with the swinging chair that turns into a bed.

We know that everyone has their own ways of doing 'vacation'. With that said, we believe that in whatever way you seek to find ultimate relaxation, Little Fireweed Cottage will serve you wonderfully in that endeavor.

About Ailsa or Tyson Hall

My wife is from New Brunswick, Canada and I am from Palmer, Alaska. Growing up six hours away, in the Matanuska Valley, I always loved the opportunity to get down to Homer to visit my family there. Since a very young age, Homer has held a very special place in my heart. I have traveled to over 40 different countries around the world but I have yet to see a place that matches the majesty of Homer, Alaska.

Be sure to take a trip across the bay if you come all this way. It's really a wonderful experience.

Ailsa or Tyson Hall purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Ailsa or Tyson Hall chose Homer

Ever since I was 13, it has been a dream of mine to own a piece of Homer. That dream came true in 2006! We were able to grab a great in-town lot with a wonderful view of Kachemak Bay! We built the cottage the same year we bought the land. We feel truly blessed!

What makes this cottage unique

The reason we got into Vacation Rentals is because we have stayed in many ourselves and like the idea of staying in a private home instead of a noisy, crowded hotel. As a result of those visits at various rentals across the nation, we came up with four very important qualities that we look for when booking a Vacation Rental and incorporated them into ours. They are, 1) The lodging must feel private, 2) It must be close to the town you are visiting, 3) It must have a HOTTUB!!, 4) If applicable, it must have a view. We are happy to report that we have checked all four of these boxes!! We are only two miles from lovely Homer, on almost one and a half private acres, with a great view that you can soak in while in the wonderful hot-tub!

We are proud of our cozy little cottage in Homer and are so confident that it will exceed your expectations and serve to be the retreat you need after coming all this way.

Just Lovely!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a cozy little visit! The owners were very responsive, answered all our questions before the visit, and even gave us recommendations for places to eat and things to do. We chose this place because it had the most positive reviews on VRBO, seems to have a strong track record for exceeding guest expectations, and it has been around longer than most all the other rentals. Little Fireweed Cottage did not all disappoint and was a great and much needed little getaway. We hope to visit again sometime soon.

Hot tub was our goal, even if it was kinda green.

  • 3 of 5

Nice enough little place. A bit overpriced, especially in winter. We were 3 adults & a 5 yr old looking to get out of town & away from our cell phones for a weekend. It served our purposes but we probably wouldn’t return. One bathroom was only difficult on last day when we all want to shower before check out. The kitchen was stocked well enough but dishes sucked with no garbage disposal or even a screen to catch all the stuff that can clog a drain. The beds were comfy. But, the place wasn’t really very clean. I mean it wasn’t too horrible, the beds looked clean. But the was an old used enema bag hanging from the shower curtain rod. We lost a toy under the stove & out came books, socks & a bunch of stuff. Under the couch had the same. We had a good time anyway & spent a good deal of time in the hot tub. It was green but mostly at the bottom. Super slippery deck. I don’t think we would return to here.

Owner's Response: Hello Shelley, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this valuable feedback. We do make every effort possible to make sure that our guests are comfortable and that the cottage is clean and welcoming, so we greatly appreciate hearing concerns so that these issues can be addressed, disappointing as it is to hear that your expectations were not fully met. As far as the cottage only having one bathroom, I know that it can certainly be a little inconvenient with larger groups, but we do make sure that the size of the cottage (two bedrooms and one bathroom) is accurately represented on our VRBO description. I'm very sorry for your disappointment if you were expecting something different. As far as the cleanliness of the cottage not being satisfactory (as well as finding a personal belonging left behind in the shower) we agree that this is unacceptable and have taken steps to ensure quality control in the future. Our long time cleaner (who was excellent!) had actually just retired prior to your stay, so this was one of our very first experiences with our new cleaner. The issue has been addressed and we are taking steps to to ensure that this does not happen again. Again, thank you so for your valuable feedback and for helping us maintain the high standards that we have always taken such pride in. We would love to have the opportunity to provide you with a more comfortable stay in the future and wish you a very happy new year. Sincerely, Ailsa Hall

Perfect little house for a perfect little family getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Little Fireweed Cottage! It was perfect for our family of 4 :) I give a star rating of 4 only because of the landscaping which is very over grown and doesn't leave much, if any, yard to play in. Everything else was beyond wonderful! We will defiantly be booking another getaway at the Little Fireweed Cottage in the future :)
