Overview

About the property

Private Cabin. 5 Acres. Fish Creek Access.

Gabrielle's Cabin is located on the Anchor Ranch on the iconic Fish Creek Road, 2 miles north of downtown Wilson. The Anchor Ranch was an active dude ranch in the Jackson Hole valley in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The Ranch is as tranquil and peaceful today, as it was back in the day of dudes, coming to Jackson Hole for their summer vacation. The ranch has remained virtually unchanged for the past 70 years. There is a main lodge and several out buildings and cabins where the guests stayed. We would like to offer you one of these cabins, Gabrielle's Cabin.

Gabrielle's cabin is a cozy space with a small living room, bathroom with shower, a bedroom with a queen sized bed, and a well equipped kitchen, including an electric range, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. Free wifi and TV with Chromecaster.

If tranquility, privacy, nature, and solitude are important to you for your stay in Jackson Hole, the Anchor Ranch will be the place for you. No condo's here. From your cabin, you can walk across the yard to Fish Creek, and practice your fly fishing skills. You can stroll along Fish Creek Road and enjoy the quiet country road. You can sit by the creek on a hot summer afternoon and 100% relax. Gabrielle's Cabin is fairly basic, quaint and romantic, without many bells and whistles. We would be happy to heat the wood-fired sauna for a relaxing aprez ski experience. Our family has enjoyed this gem of a property for the past 70 years. We consider ourselves to be off the beaten path, and we believe your stay with us will be a memorable experience.

In Wilson, 2 miles away, you can dine at Nora's Fish Creek Inn or the famous Stagecoach Bar. Groceries are available at Hungry Jack's General Store. Bagel's and the perfect cup of coffee are available at Pearl Street Bagels. There are several other small businesses including Wilson Backcountry Sports, Teton Gravity Research, Wilson Hardware and Wilson Gas and Convenience Store. We are 20 minutes from Teton Village, 15 minutes to The Aspens, and 10 minutes to the Start Bus Terminal (free parking) with service every 30 minutes to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The town of Jackson and Snow King Mountain Resort are 20 minutes away. Within a 100 mile radius, you will also find Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Grand Targhee Ski Resort.

We also live on the premises of the Anchor Ranch in the main lodge. We are almost always available for providing excellent local information to guide you during your stay with us. Our family settled at the Anchor Ranch in the early 50's, and we are the second, third and fourth generations to live here. We are familiar with the Jackson Hole area and can provide innumerable suggestions for enjoying your stay in Jackson Hole.

You will need a vehicle when you stay with us. We maintain a well plowed drive way and will give you a space in the carport. The nearest public transportation is the Start Bus Terminal at Stilson's Parking lot, about 5 miles away. Easy access to all of the valley bike paths. Very close to mountain bike trails as well.

About Gina St Clair

I am the granddaughter of Jacqueline Hiller, who started running the the Anchor Ranch in the 1950’s. I grew up in Jackson in the 60's and 70's and graduated from the Jackson Hole High School in 1979. My summers were spent at the ranch, riding horses and fly fishing in the creek. I went to college at The Evergreen State College in Washington. The day after graduation I drove to Alaska where I lived for 32 years. In Haines, Alaska I raised three kids, as well as had a variety of jobs including cooking, teaching, fishing, and guiding. I also had a small farm where I raised chickens, goats and a large organic vegetable garden. I am back home for now, to help out my parents and help maintain the ranch. I live here with my partner, Dan, and daughter, Gabrielle, who is now a junior at the Jackson Hole High School.

Gina St Clair purchased this cabin in 1950

Why Gina St Clair chose Wilson

My grandparents Jacqueline and Fredrick Hiller bought the Anchor Ranch in 1950. They had moved to the United States from Germany, he was a neurologist at Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois. Originally they came out to Jackson as 'dudes', and stayed at Trail Creek Ranch. In 1950 they decided to buy their own property where they could be near the mountains and enjoy good fishing. Fredrick passed away in 1953, and Jackie and her two daughters, my mom, (Gabrielle) Putzi and her sister Sylvia, moved out to Wyoming permanently around 1955. At that time, Jackie started running the ranch as a dude ranch, which she continued for the next 20 years. Summer tourists, or dudes as they were called back in the day, came to the ranch for fishing, horseback riding, hiking, climbing and for some it was just coming out to be in the west. After Jackie's passing in 1993, my mom, Putzi and her husband John moved to the ranch. They have lived here ever since, and all of their four daughters have all lived here at some point in time.

What makes this cabin unique

I feel incredibly lucky that I get to call the Anchor Ranch my home. It is not many places in the Jackson Hole valley which have remained virtually untouched for 70 years. The corrals, arena and horses are no long here, but the trees I climbed as a young cowgirl in my cowboy boots are. And the creek and the pond still flow as pure and pristine, with cut throat and brook trout, as they always have.

Moose Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for 2 weeks not knowing what to expect. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and the Wifi was great! The towels were the softest and fluffiest ever! It was advertised that there had been moose on the property but we didn’t expect to see any. Well, there were moose on a regular basis. We even had a mom and her new calf on two different evenings. One evening they stayed for about a half an hour and the calf ran and played while I shot a bunch of photos of them. It was magical. Other moose come and munch on the willows In the yard. Gina keeps the yard meticulously maintained. Such a beautiful setting on a pond where ducks swim by. And driving back and forth to the cabin along Fish Creek you never know what you’ll see. Osprey, for sure. There is a nice little general store in town where they have a little bit of everything and they are so friendly. We will be back!

This is a wonderful, peaceful, beautiful space with access to many places of interest. The cabin is cozy and comfortable. The property is very well maintained and has trails to walk. A book was provided showing the trails. Info from the owner regarding stores in the area at which to shop for supplies and/or to dine in was provided. Overall this was a wonderful experience and can be highly recommended. Would love to go there again!
