About Catherine Madera
I believe Place is important and marks our souls in mysterious ways. As a child/young person I moved well over a dozen times, both in and out of the country. When I settled in the Southfork Valley in 1999 I desperately wanted to put down roots and feel part of a community. I'll never forget the way the land here spoke to me that first August morning when we were introduced. This is a special place, one I love sharing with other wandering spirits.
Why Catherine Madera chose Acme
Blue Mountain Farm was owned by one of the original Norwegian families that settled in this area. It has functioned as a yoga retreat in the past, providing respite for city dwellers and those longing for peace and quiet. It is not "fancy," but it special, welcoming you like an old friend.
What makes this House unique
It is completely private and secluded (dead end road) with short trails on the property making it easy to enjoy nature. The property also connects with longer trails into the surrounding hills from which you can see stunning views of the Twin Sisters and even, occasionally, Mount Baker. A local elk herd beds down in the meadow and can be seen in the spring and fall. Bald eagles fish across the road in the Nooksack River. It is a nature lovers paradise.

Beautiful farm retreat
This place is a beautiful, sprawling property with a large main house, overlooking a sweeping meadow that leads down to forest all around. There are easily accessible trails, and the river is just over the main road. The house itself is very comfortable and well-appointed. The property managers are easy to reach and a pleasure to communicate with. We had a fantastic time and look forward to coming again.
Wonderful home away from home
Catherine was a great host - communicative, attentive, and flexible. The location was pleasant as well and is great for large groups of people. Thanks again for letting us enjoy your home, Catherine
Wonderful hosts of a rustic, country getaway
Catherine and Mark are both very warm and welcoming hosts. I appreciated that Catherine reached out to me prior to our trip to update me on the road conditions as we were traveling shortly after a large snowstorm. She also kindly brought over some kids' movies for us to use during our stay. The hot tub is impeccably clean. It is a short distance from the house so be sure to bring some flip flops or other shoes to get to/from the hot tub area. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. The highlights for us were the hot tub, the fireplace, the setting, and the large size of the house with plenty of bathrooms.
We loved watching the snow fall as we packed up to leave. Our party included 3 families and my mom for a total of 7 adults and 7 children. The house was the perfect size for our large group. We primarily spent the day skiing at Mount Baker and enjoyed stopping on the way back to the house to pick up pizza from North Fork Pizza and some groceries from Crossroads. The kitchen at the house was well stocked and a nice size for a large group. As others mentioned, the wifi is not strong and the tv cut in and out.
Thank you for your kindness Kari, and being so great to deal with. Great particulars here and we know what to work on, too:)
The perfect Washington ski cabin
I gotta say I've been renting through Vacation Rentals since 2010 and this was by far the best cabin I've stayed at ever hands down. I can confidently say that. The hosts were welcoming even when the power went out they had a generator ready with firewood. The hot tub was AMAZING. The cabin is big enough to give a whole family space to each other. There's even work desks for busy adults while the kids are out playing. We had one friend sit in a bathtub and got some reading in while others were out at Mt. Baker. It's literally the perfect place to bring a family. Everyone gets there space if one person feels like doing something different another person can do something else. Everyone gets what they want. If you want to just watch TV and kick back that's fine too. Cabin was easy to find in the dark and straight forward directions great location. The only critique I would have to say is be ready for low reception and low Wifi. This is a place to get out of the city with luxury at the same time. The hosts really made the trip an awesome experience very welcoming and ready to help in any way. Thank you Catherine for everything, looking forward to coming back here during the summer!
Thank you for this great feedback Eugie. I was impressed with your group and appreciate the way you left the house. You are welcome anytime! Do come back in summer, it is gorgeous here (plus, usually no power outtages:). Thanks again.
Great place to relax and unwind
We just returned home from a long weekend at Blue Mountain Farm, and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. The house is large and a little rambling (in a good way), with plenty of room for a large group to spread out and enjoy their stay. The master suite is off to one end of the house, which allows for privacy and quiet moments. The other bedrooms are upstairs, each with its own personality. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped for large groups. Outside, the 40+ acre property delivers on scenery and wildlife. There‘s a huge open pasture and several wooded trails. The host were great, and we were greeted with fresh picked fruit and their special caramel corn upon arrival. In all we found it a quiet, restful place to unwind and disconnect, and I look forward to taking the family back next year.
You guys were just great! Thanks for choosing us for your special weekend; hope to see you again soon.
