Julia Pikal -owner purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2013
Why Julia Pikal -owner chose Plazac
Both David and I love France, as did my parents. Their dream was to buy a house in France. So when they both sadly died, I decided to make their dream come true and mine too of course! We spent 5 months looking for the house of our dreams. We had nearly given up when on a final trip to the lovely Perigord Noir, we stumbled across la Goulette, It was love at first sight! I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the location and the view from the huge terrace, that I burst into tears at the thought of not being able to own this house! We had a big birthday celebration on the terrace last July and all our guests also fell in love with La Goulette and the view from the terrace! Being a nature lover, it is wonderful to have red squirrels and deer in our woodland, a variety of frogs and lizards and so many beautiful butterflies.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Anyone who has visited La Goulette always gets excited as they drive up the hill and first see the little estate. Then as they approach the house and cottage joined together by a wisteria covered arch, they are already enchanted. There is a lovely atmosphere at La Goulette and a feeling of space. The brand new swimming pool is a beautiful ice blue colour and there is lots of space with the large gardens, woodland and pond for children to have fun too. Not far away is Etaing du Tamnies for those who like a beach and beach bar. You can walk down to Plazac to buy fresh bread at the Boulangerie, there is a bio-store (mini supermarket) 2 restaurants and bars as well as more shops in nearby Rouffignac, Les Moustiers, St Leon sur Vezere and Montignac.

Perfect House for vacations with friends
Thanks a lot to Julia and David for their warm welcoming!! Lovely place!
Thank you Debotah and friends! We really enjoyed having you all to stay and miss your happy laughter and the evening games of Pétanque! Such a shame the weather was not very good! We look forward to welcoming you to La Goulette again!
Perfect from start to finish
Our party of 12 consisted of 6 adults and 6 kids ranging from 2 years to 70+. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Julia and David it was clear it was going to be a fabulous week. David and Julia are the perfect owners always available for advice and help, but never intrusive.
The house is set in a beautiful location, close enough to the village to be able to cycle for fresh bread, but secluded enough that allowed the whole family to relax. The kids spent most of the week in the pool, perfect size and lovely not to be chlorinated.
The house itself has been renovated to a very high standard and easily accommodated the whole party, without feeling cramped.
For us the piece de resistance was the terrace with the amazing views over the valley. We were able to utilise the terrace for all meals and it was wonderful to sit and enjoy a glass or two of wine watching the sunset.
This place is a real haven for peace and tranquility and the perfect location for a family holiday
Ah Peter, thank you so much for the great review. You and your lovely family were also 'perfect from start to finish!' We loved having you all here and I am pleased to hear that we managed to keep the balance of being able to help and offer advice as well as not being intrusive. We hope to welcome you all back next year for another lovely holiday at La Goulette!
Just what the doctor ordered. Mixed age groups eight days old to 85. Something for all and great area. Good back up when required. Great for walking and cycling and within reasonable reach of other holiday pursuits (canooing, go-ape equivalent, food, art and music). Ambience so relaxed that was good just to potter round pool, cook and read. Would book again or even buy if could.
We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed being at our lovely La Goulette and the surrounding area! We are here now ourselves and the weather is fabulous. As for buying it, we will sell it one day so keep in touch if you are serious! All the very best, Julia and David
Our large family group thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Goulette! It is a lovely home, well-situated in the countryside just outside of the small village of Plazac, but so close to many wonderful sites and restaurants. The house itself is in a completely quiet location with no noise except morning birdcalls. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable, and the linens and towels were perfect. The bathrooms were updated and the kitchen was well-equipped for the dinners we cooked at home. We loved the evenings we decided to grill at home and eat our dinner outside on the lovely terrace, at the large table - because the view is so beautiful! The terrace table is equipped with two large umbrellas, so we were always comfortable even on hot days. The pool is large and perfect (and the saltwater was "not salty" according to my children, so don't let that put you off), and we spent several relaxing afternoons there. The indoor spaces were lovely and comfortable. It is important to know that the three bedrooms upstairs in the main house are accessed by a metal spiral staircase, which was fine for our group. The cottage bedrooms are accessed via a regular wooden staircase and are wonderfully romantic and pretty, and the master bedroom in the main house is on the ground floor and has a large comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. We did not use the second kitchen in the cottage, but it is a full-size kitchen with modern appliances. The small store/bakery in Plazac is a lovely 20-minute walk (or 5-minute drive) away and has bread, croissants and other baked goods in the morning, and a few other staples (like coffee and cream!). There were quite a few good restaurants and lovely villages within a 10-20 minute drive; our favorites were Le Petit Leon and La Poste in St. Leon, and Le Moulin de Mitou in Auriac. We loved visiting the Font-de-Gaume prehistoric cave paintings (limited number of visitors, reserve well ahead of time or get there VERY early in high season), Coumbarelles cave paintings (also limited visitation), and the Le Roque Christophe cave dwellings, all very close by. The owner Julia was very helpful responding to our questions prior to our visit, and the caretaker Cristina was prompt and helpful when we needed her assistance during our visit. We highly recommend La Goulette and hope to return someday!
Thank you for your review Mary. We are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at La Goulette and for the helpful descriptions of the property including the stairs so that other potential holiday makers know about how it is at La Goulette, and can hear the useful information about the historic sites you visited and the restaurants. We look forward to meeting you on your return!
Outstanding house in lovely position
A fine, well maintained and spacious house. Close to local amenities yet secluded and private. Liked the large salt water swimming pool and the space to always find a quiet spot.
Would recommend to family and friends without reservation. A memorable holiday.
We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your lovely holiday at La Goulette and to hear your positive comments. You are most welcome to return and we hope you do!
La Goulette is a most wonderful home and location
We have just spent a very happy week at La Goulette celebrating our Golden Wedding with our extended family of six adults and five grandchildren.
We found the accomodation to be superb with all our needs catered for and with a wonderful location at which to stay.
Our grandchildren had a marvellous time in the swimming pool and exploring the grounds.
La Goulette is very suitably located for the many and varied interests of the Region.
We would have no hesitation in returning ourselves or recommending to others.
Thank you Alan and May. We are delighted to hear how much enjoyed staying at our beautiful property La Goulette. And look forward to seeing you on your return another year. Best Wishes, Julia and David
La Goulette is very near all the historic sites - La Grotte de Rouffignac is 4 kms in one direction and La Roque Christopher 4 kms in the other direction. Its also about 12 kms from Lascaux (ancient cave paintings) and 45 minutes away from Sarlat and 15 minutes away from Le Eyzies. Its near the beautiful river valley of the Vezere (La Valleé 'Homme) and surrounded by exquisite Chateaux, pretty villages such as St Leon sur Vezere, Fanlac, Beynac (where the film Chocolat was filmed) and many more lovely pretty towns and villages as well as the famous town of Sarlat de Caneda. Everyone who has stayed at La Goulette has talked about one fun they have had canoeing on the River Vezere, the lovely riverside and village restaurants they have visited and generally how stunningly beautiful this area is.
