We are presently living in Spain after 25 years in the US.I am from Belgium and my wife from the Philippines. While traveling in south of France in September 2012, by chance, we discovered Vaison La Romaine. Two days later, we fell in love with that old historic house and, although the transformations and repairs were very extensive,we never regretted it. The medieval city is full of charm and everyday, history will be present at your site.

Ghislain et Leticia Gonsette purchased this house in 2012

Vaison La Romaine is best known for its archeological remains of the Roman era that have been discovered. But the city also had an intense feudal activity, not in the valley as the Gallo Roman period but on the rocky outcrop which is accessed by crossing the river Ouveze.

In addition to the poetry of its quiet lanes, the upper city of Vaison offers the charm of its houses, often built in antique stones that can testify to the wealth of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance provence.

Best of the Vaucluse

  • 5 of 5

This house is lovely. Quiet, comfortable and atmospheric. The view overlooking the courtyard is of another world. Best for a luxury vacation for two. Easy walk to restaurants and sights. If you are looking for an old world experience with all the amenities of home, stay here in Vaison. And...bypass the usual Luberon villages for Vaison, especially if you have some wine tasing planned.

beautiful house.

  • 4 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay. The house is in walking distance to sites, shops and restaurants. The house itself is well appointed and very comfortable. The only negative for us was the stairs, a bit precarious from master bedroom to the bathroom at night. Otherwise we would highly recommend this lovely house for a holiday.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Casa Vasio. It is very true that the passage from the master bedroom to the bathroom requests attention and to watch owns head! Definitely, our ancestors were not very tall! It is also part of the charm of those very antique houses. Thanks again for staying in Casa Vasio. Gil

Perfect medieval house inside the walls

  • 5 of 5

This is the seventh different place we have rented in France. It was unusually large, elegant, well located, and well outfitted. Many rental places are not really set up for doing more than having breakfast, but this kitchen was fully equipped and we made eight meals there. And as a special treat we ate each dinner on the rooftop terrace overlooking the old city, vineyards and the sunsets.

The house has an incredible view over the little square and fountain: we will long remember listening to the splashing of the fountain during our mornings as we woke up. The main bedroom is charming, but the smaller bedroom would only be suitable for a child.

Pre-arrival emails, as well as check in and check out were all on time, friendly and flawless.

The one thing I would emphasize is how extremely well put together and historic the house is. It looks good in the photos, but is even nicer in person, which is rare! We really felt like we were able to stay in a place that in most places in the world would be a special exhibit of beautiful architecture and history.

For a couple we could not recommend it more highly as a home for a romantic vacation.

Owner's Response: Thanks Duncan for you kind words. It is always a real pleasure for us to have people in our home who can appreciate the village and the atmosphere of the medieval city and the charm of the square. We are happy that you(like my wife) enjoyed the amenities of the kitchen. Come back to us next year. Many thanks. Gil

Renter for 1 1/2 weeks

  • 4 of 5

The house was as advertised: clean, well-cared for and obviously loved by the owners themselves. Decorating details spoke to the owners' efforts to make it aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The house was well-supplied in terms of necessaries.

We were acquainted with the location in the Haute Ville from previous visits to Vaison and knew that there were parking difficulties and that the house was difficult to access by car, but that did not disturb us. it might be wise to advise future renters of the difficulty of access. Also, a railing up to the fourth floor would be useful.

Thanks for sharing the house with us.

Owner's Response: Thanks Cynthia, That´s a very good suggestion. In fact, it was ordered and paid more than a year ago and the worker ...disappeared.This is I think an universal fact of life when you have to deal with people, perhaps a little bit worse with the provencal atmosphere... Come back to us next year.. Gil

We went to Patricia Wells cooking school which very close to the ancient city. The renovations of this home are amazing! It was a great place to stay. We would rent this property again.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to accommodate Claudia and her family. They adjusted very well to this medieval home and left a good memory to the people they met. We hope to see them back or send some more students going to the cooking school.

A Medieval House Brought to Life

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a delightful week (May 27-June 3, 2017) in Casa Vasio. This 3 story, ancient house has been charmingly refurbished for the 21st Century with all modern conveniences without losing any of its historic feeling.

The medieval section of modern Vaison is exactly where you want to be, with picturesque, winding , cobble-stoned streets. The house is ideally situated for exploring this old village. And the Roman ruins (the most extensive in France) are within walking distance.

The owners of Casa Vasio go out of their way to be helpful and make your stay a wonderful experience..

I recommend their home without reservation.
