Lovely atmospheric old house

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable, clean, well equipped and quirkily decorated old house in the little village of Igueste de San Andres. High ceilings keep the rooms cool, and the shady terrace is great for al fresco eating. Pretty garden with a couple of large mango trees.

Our little boy was very impressed with the large selection of toys, and the speedy wifi was an unexpected bonus in such a seemingly remote spot.

We spent most of our time at the lovely beach of Playa de las Teresitas which is just down the mountain from Igueste, nice seafood available at the little beach shacks. San Andres itself is a pleasant town and worth a visit. Although there is a little shop in the village, there is a decent supermarket in San Andres, near the pharmacy .

All in all a lovely stay in a great house in a fab location. Thanks Puri & Jose !

Authentic house with beautiful tranquil garden

  • 5 of 5

We stayed some 5 days in the house and enjoyed it very much. The old house has a very spacious living room with matching furniture, old books etc. making it a pleasant and atmospheric place to stay during the day and evening. The main bedroom is equally large and has nice views towards the village and the ocean. Kitchen and bathroom are basic but everything, including the WiFi network, is clean and working well.

The old garden is a delight. Although it is in the middle of Igueste de San Andres it is situated very tranquilly and it is well sheltered. You can sit in the shade or in the sun as you desire and the garden has its own mango trees that are frequently visited by birds and an escaped green-red coloured parrot. It is a lovely place to have a relaxed breakfast early in the morning or enjoy a book in the afternoon after a long walk in the mountains.

The owner is a very friendly lady. Although we do not speak proper Spanish communication with her via e-mail and Whatsapp was pretty easy (with some help from Google Translate). Whereas the description on HomeAway (a translation into Dutch) is a bit confusing, the pictures on the website are representative and basically tell you what you will get.

Within a 100m from the house, there is a small Mercado that sells some bread, cheese, fruit, beer and other essentials. There are only 2 places where you can eat in the evening of which one is the living room of an old lady close to the beach who serves typical Tenerife dishes (no menu card, only the dish of the day). In nearby San Andres there is a very good and pleasant restaurant called La Posada del Pez and also Santa Cruz is reachable within some 15 minutes driving.

For us it was our second stay in Igueste de San Andres. We returned there because it is a great place to stay when you like hiking in the mountains. There are several lovely walks starting in Igueste that bring you up into the beautiful mountains towards deserted old villages (Lomo de Las Casillas) or via a steep cliff passage (not to difficult when dry) towards your own private totally deserted beach. On the way back via a remote and lonely valley you may run into a flock of goats.

Igueste is a good place to stay if you want to make hikes in the remote Eastern part of the Anaga mountains as you can easily drive all the way up via San Andres (TF-12) bringing you towards Chamorga within an hour. In this area there are several well-marked walks into this beautiful part of Tenerife.

hors des sentiers battus

  • 5 of 5

GRACIAS!!

Superbe semaine en famille !

  • 5 of 5

Bref, 5/5 !

Dépaysement assuré

  • 5 of 5
