About Kathleen Gullo

I grew up in this area and have always appreciated the beauty and laid back way of life. My husband is from Pittsburgh, but now claims to be a "Mainer" too! We traveled quite extensively due to his career but always new that we would want to live here year round! We live in the village of Newcastle 10 miles up the peninsula. This property and a little cottage next door came on the market and we thought it would be great to purchase them and use them for family and friends that frequently come extended visits in the summer! They both were in desperate need of TLC! Bob and I figured we could get the small place fixed up and take our time with this one. Life has a way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, so needless to say we just finished this fall! As it turns out, our children are all pretty busy with their lives so the cottages weren't being used liked we had hoped, so, we decided to rent them out when family's not using them! Last summer was the third season of renting the small cottage, but first year on VRBO and this property is new to VRBO this fall! I hope that people will give it a go! I know people like to have reviews, as do I when I travel. Unfortunately, this being it's first season, we have none yet! Come and check us out, I know you'll enjoy the comfort and the beauty of the area!

Why Kathleen Gullo chose New Harbor

The Pemaquid Peninsula is my favorite little piece of Maine! I grew up on the west side of the Damariscotta River and I love it there too, but this area holds a special place in my heart! It's laid back with no pretense or commercialism! There's plenty to do and if you want action it's not far away, but I could stay down here all summer and be perfectly at peace!

What makes this house unique

I have a dear friend who's a realtor and took me one day with her to put signs up on her listings. When we arrived at this property and went inside I fell in love with the staircase! It's nothing like Tara, just a simple oak staircase with a landing, but it reminded me of my grandmothers house when I was a child! I called my husband and told him to come down and see what I found! I didn't tell him that it had been vacant for four years and that there was a bunch of damage and it had no heat and it needed total cosmetic reconditioning!! Mostly I love the feel of the place! It's very relaxed and has a huge back yard. It's very private even though there are neighbors and best of all,,,,,,,,It's a 1/2 mile to my favorite beach in the world, (and I've been to some amazing beaches all over the world)!

Large family house!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house for my daughter's wedding in the area and it worked out perfectly. The kitchen was large and I had family over to prep food for the picnic at the State Park about 20 miles away. From the outside you would never guess how large and comfortable the inside and each of the bedrooms is and the extra game room upstairs was perfect. They thought of everything- from an ironing board and iron to beach toys for the beach right down the road. Don't pass up this house!

A great getaway house for any occasion

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Robin's Nest with a group of 7 friends for a week and it was the perfect home-base for all sorts of adventures! The location was extremely convenient to:

-A very nice beach (we walked there from the house, just down the street!)

-New Harbor restaurants/cafes/bars (some amazing gems in the neighborhood, including breakfast at Cupboard Cafe just past the beach and a nice cafe/gift shop by the Pemaquid Lighthouse)

-a couple of bigger towns with more restaurants/shopping just 20 minutes away (Damariscotta and Newcastle, in particular--craft beer fans won't want to miss Oxbow Brewing!)

-Portland (not a bad drive at all for a day trip to the city)

The house itself was really spacious, with plenty of communal areas for hanging out. In particular, the upstairs game room was stocked with board games and books for your entertainment, and the backyard was gigantic for any grilling or leisure activities. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed for cooking in the house and more (I finally learned how to use a French press!)

Kathleen was such an attentive host and always reliably responded to messages very quickly. My only complaint is that I didn't have an extra week to enjoy more!

Great spot and gracious host

  • 5 of 5

I was married at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse last Saturday. Kathleen hosted the families of two of my best friends. My friends had nothing but good things to say about their visit. Given the challenges in coordinating with multiple guests arriving at multiple times, Kathleen was marvelously responsive. My wife and I greatly appreciated her help.

The home was recently renovated and in immaculate shape. It is a few minutes drive to the lighthouse, the reception location at the Willing Workers Hall, and the family cottage near Pemaquid Beach. On Sunday, a group of tweens and teens walked from the cottage near the beach to the house to play board games - so, walking between the house and beach can be done. I can highly recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in New Harbor.

The Pemaquid Peninsula is a piece of "real Maine", with miles of well maintained hiking trails, the beautiful white sand beach and of course the famous Pemaquid Light House! Take a day trip out to Monhegan Island on board the Hardy Boat. It leaves from New Harbor twice a day! There are some fantastic eateries on the peninsula. Whether you're looking to eat your lobster out on the dock at Shaw's Wharf, or you prefer to have it cracked for you at the Bradley Inn, you'll find a verity of restaurants to please! If you'd like to have a day of outlet shopping, LL Bean is a 50 minute drive south and the Camden Hills are 45 minutes up the coast! Antique shops are everywhere and the finest botanical gardens in the northeast are just 40 minutes in the town of Boothbay. Come explore the magic!
