Chateau d'Hambye is the perfect destination for a relaxing and satisfying holiday or corporate retreat, and a wonderful location for your wedding day and other celebrations.

Chateau d'Hambye is a splendid 18th century, seven bedroom French chateau situated within the small rural village of Hambye in Manche, Normandy, France. Recently restored to great luxury the chateau is set in a stunning location within eight acres of parkland which overlooks rolling countryside. The gardens within the grounds of the château offer open spaces and several seating areas as well as a private enclosed walled garden which is home to a 112sqm (16m x 7m) solar heated swimming pool, a BBQ area, and an all weather table tennis table.

The chateau is equipped with seven bedrooms consisting of five double rooms, two twin rooms and six bathrooms, some of which are en-suite. The ground floor level offers a large kitchen-diner with working fireplace, a large lounge, a TV lounge equipped with Sky, DVD and video, a billiards table, a separate dining room, a utility room / second kitchen area, a lavatory and the two beautiful staircases which lead to the upper levels.

The chateau is fully furnished with all the necessary equipment for preparing and serving meals as well as cleaning and drying clothes. The utilities include a large double-oven range-cooker with extractor, a microwave oven, a toaster, a fridge, a freezer, a washing machine, and a tumble dryer. All bed linen is also supplied.

The Chateau d'Hambye is easily accessible and within easy reach of several ferry ports and airports within the Normandy region. Although we are within the heart of rural Normandy we are just twenty minutes from the glorious sandy beaches to the west and major towns such as St Lo, Vire, Villedieu, Avranches, and Granville are just a short car journey. Within walking distance of the chateau is a supermarket, restaurants, bars and other shops.

Perfect location and chateau for our family vacation. The chateau accommodated our group of 12 that spanned 3 generations with plenty of space for all. Location ideal for exploring wonders of Normandy.

We used this as a base for a golf trip to Normandy. The chateau is fantastic, facilities are brilliant - all you need for a base to eat, drink, and be merry!

Loved the house, massive kitchen- enough space for 3 families. All the bedrooms were beautiful and the beds were extremely comfortable. All had lots of fun in the pools. Nice grounds for the kids to run around in.

Beautiful Chateau

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 7 had a wonderful visit here in Hambye. The Chateau is on beautiful acreage and it is being lovingly restored by the owners Anna and Rob. All the bedrooms/bathrooms/ were large and decorated beautifully. The kitchen is accommodating to anyone who cares to cook there and we enjoyed spending relaxing time in each of the great rooms on the first floor. All the WW11 towns are within easy reach of Hambye. The town has several shops, gas and small grocery store as well as a very nice pharmacy. You can easily feel like royalty when staying here. Thanks Ann and Rob.

Beaches

The west coast of Normandy which lies approximately 20 minutes from Chateau d'Hambye offers some superb beaches which stretch for several kilometres and are often mostly deserted. Along some of the beaches there are promenades for those that prefer to keep the sand from their feet and are a great place for taking a nice long walk (or short!). The beaches are located at Agon Coutainville, St Martin de Brehal, Granville, St Pair sur Mer, Jullouville and Carolles.

Half an hour drive from the d day landing beaches. Granville offers fantastic fish restaurants and casino, there is a large local market every tuesday at villedieu les pooles offering a great morning shopping for every fresh produce possible !!

Water Sports

For those that like to get wet there is a good choice of activities, some inland on the river Vire and others along the west coast, north and south of Granville. Activities include canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, surfing, scuba diving and wind surfing.

Golf

There are many beautiful golf courses within Normandy and a great deal of information is available on the internet. This website will tell you about most if not all of the courses situated within Normandy.

Hiking & Cycling

The roads around Normandy are generally uncrowded and often empty which makes cycling a pleasure. There are cycle paths to be found one of which (Chemin de Halage) runs along the river Vire from Pont Farcy in the south to the north coast (Isigny-sur-mer), this very picturesque route is also perfect for walkers and can be joined at different points along the river. There are hundreds of graded footpaths across the region which are numbered with a 'GR' identification.

Horse Riding

Normandy loves horses and is well renowned for its links with the equine world. There are many horse riding centres in Normandy. The horse racing held regularly at the 'Hippodrome(s)' in season, makes a great day out. We found that we were able to wander freely amongst the horses that were taking part and if you like horses we would recommend it.

Fishing

In Normandy there are plenty of fish and fewer anglers chasing them. There are miles of first category waters where trout are plentiful while the lakes (old gravel pits) are the source for some large carp. Then of course there is the sea along the west and north coast of Normandy which offers more fishing opportunities.

Adventure Activities

If you like your adrenalin levels higher than most then you may be interested in more adventurous pastimes. Bungee jumping amongst other activities can be found at the Viaduc De La Souleuvre.

Channel Islands

There is a passenger ferry service from Granville (amongst others) to Jersey (St Helier) which takes about 70-80 minutes and it is also possible to travel to Guernsey, Sark, Herm and Alderney as well as the French island, Chausey. Fares are at reasonable prices that vary depending upon season.

Places of Interest

There are many popular places to visit in Normandy and here are just a few: The 'must see' Mont St Michel is a beautiful Benedictine abbey built from around the 11th century. The 11th century Bayeux tapestry is interesting and Bayeux is a very nice town to visit. Within Normandy there are also many memorials and museums dedicated to D-Day and the ensuing battles fought for the liberation of France. The landing beaches on the north coast along with the American War Cemetery (omaha beach) should not be missed. There are beautiful public gardens to visit along with many other sites.

Zoos

The zoos at Champrepus and Jurques are very charming and will appeal to animal lovers. Both zoos have feeding schedules to follow and other attractions. In particular the white lions at Jurques are absolutely stunning to watch.
