About June and Christopher Bensted
We are a retired couple who have spent the last few years lovingly restoring our cottage in France and enjoying time there getting to know the local area.
June and Christopher Bensted purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why June and Christopher Bensted chose Floirac
We fell in love with this area and holidayed here many times before deciding to give ourselves a 'project' for our retirement.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love nothing better than sitting in the warm evening sun with a glass of wine and local cheeses enjoying the peace and quiet of rural France.

Beautiful welcoming home set in an amazing area
It’s not just a house it is an amazing home. It’s like your best friends have said to you please come to our home, stay, enjoy, make yourself at home- what’s mine is yours- relax! It has everything and more that you could wish for in a rental. Including a dyson! Balcony is beautiful.
June was amazing throughout. So helpful - really understood how to make us feel welcome.
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property and area.
So much to explore in the area. Caves towns rivers only just scratched the surface. Love to come back.
Thing the property and area would be lovely to visit in the autumn.
I could just go on & on........
Just go and contact June and book this place before someone else does!!
Wonderful renovated house with beautiful features
Second visit to this stunning property. An amazing setting for a family holiday. Inside the house is beautifully decorated with many original features. The house is full of character with a homely feel. The large orchard garden is beautiful with the backdrop of the old church. Where we enjoyed dining alfresco on many an evening. Peaceful, rural village location. Close to the medieval town of Martel and all it's facilities. With easy access to many great tourist attractions in the surrounding area. The property was well equipped and tidy. Hope to visit again in the future! Thank you for a wonderful holiday in your beautiful home.
Thank you the Watkins family. Very pleasant return guests to Le Barry and very welcome . It's lovely to hear of people enjoying the Lot as much as we do . We love having appreciative guests to stay in our home. Thank you again
Beautiful house and a perfect stay
We had such an amazing experience at this house. 4 of us and a young child spent a week here and couldn't have been happier. The house was beautifully finished, clean and had the perfect space for us. There's a really lovely garden with a large patio area which we ate out on each night. The river is a short walk away and provides a perfect space to cool down from the sun at. All in all, we would love to stay here again - June was so helpful before we arrived, giving us lots of information and being available if we needed it when there. Would definitely recommend it to friends and family!
Wonderful thank you . Another happy guest review . We loved having you as our 'guests' at Le Barry . We love it out in Floirac and are so pleased that others can appreciate the tranquility and this beautiful region of France also .

Lovely house in beautiful area
We had a wonderful week in this stunning house. We appreciated the ice-dispenser and were able to watch the Olympics on the British channels TV. Beds very comfortable, house well equipped. We enjoyed swimming in the river at Foussac just up the road, and horse-riding at Creyesse. Most canoe hire sites required prior booking (no-one could come up with 4 single kayaks, but the man at Copeyre was very helpful and called someone to bring some over to him) Same with restaurants, all required reservations. We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday, with plenty of energetic activities locally, and beautiful old towns nearby.
A real gem
Having rented numerous properties in many locations over the last 25 years this has to be one of the best.Everything about the property was high quality from the interior decor to the furnishings and the amenities provided by the obviously generous owners.Add to that a beautiful outlook in a pretty location and as quiet as can be.Evenings spent looking out over the orchard garden were idyllic. We will be back.
10 out of 10
We were looking for "away from it all" holidays and it was exactly what we got. Serene and peaceful village with magnificent view of old rural church from your garden. Traditional French house lovingly restored and full of character yet has all 21 st century conveniences except internet (as it was away from it all holidays it wasn't essential). June and Chris put a lot of thought to every detail to make our stay as comfortable as possible, house is very well equipped. As anywhere in France, plenty to do or to see or if you want - just to soak up peace and tranquility of the village. It was sad to leave, we will definitely recommend to any of our friends visiting this area of France and we look forward to return in the future!
Many thanks June and Chris from Balkus family - Zydrune, Linas, Jonas & Dominic
Thank you for such a lovely review .
We have listened to our visitors and have now had a telephone and Internet connection set up at the house .
Floirac is a beautiful rural village within easy walking distance of the magnificent Dordogne river. The village is set in the Cirque de Floirac surrounded by walnut orchards, with fantastic walks in all directions through picturesque forests. Within easy driving distance of several medieval towns and villages, including Carennac, Martel and Rocamadour, the village of Floirac is a delight in itself with a creperie/bar - Le Pourquoi Pas, a two minute walk from the property.
The village is a quiet retreat to return to in the evening after a day of sightseeing in both the Lot or Dordogne regions of France or after an exciting day canoeing or enjoying other water sports offered in the locality. The Dordogne also provides a cool spot to swim in the height of summer.
Local amenities are found in the small town of Vayrac (5kilometres) or in the medieval town of Martel (7kilometres).
