Guestbook comments from the owner

We found the villa to be very welcoming. More than comfortable for 2 adults with 2 young children. Villa's location is ideal for exploring the local attractions as well as the local beaches which are very well suited for a young children and teenagers alike. For a location outside of a local town there are plenty of supermarket in the local area and the villa comes well equipped with cooking utensils, cooker, etc.

The beds were comfortable and the temperature in the villa remained steady and not too hot to sleep, we didn't need to turn on the air conditioning even when the temperature was reaching 30+ degrees during the day. The gardens provided plenty of opportunities for the children to explore and came complete with plum and lime trees!!

Would recommend the villa and location to any family looking for a mixture of mountains and beaches in a well established region of France - a great holiday.

Modern house in the Pyrenees

  • 3 of 5

We stayed two weeks in this rental property. The owner was easy to reach via email and responded to our every issue. She even had someone come to fix the hot water heater on a Sunday when we had no hot water. It is always a relief to rent from such responsive owners.

That said, the property wasn't exactly our cup of tea. The floors were not clean when we arrived. I believe this was an oversight because everything else was very clean. For the first week, we were battling flies, but then they were gone and we didn't see any at all the second week. That remains a mystery.

Look carefully at the photos. They are accurate. The house is very modern in decor with what I consider an uncomfortable dining table/chairs. For those who like that, it would be just fine. There are two refrigerators but neither were turned on when we arrived, despite there being guests ahead of us. That meant it took a bit of time for the, to cool down. The kitchen is only minimally outfitted. We tend to go out for lunch and like to relax and cook dinner and we found it a challenge in the kitchen.

The tv is an odd setup that we really couldn't get to function well. It uses an Internet connection that just wasn't steady enough to watch a whole show. There are some dvd's which we used and the Internet functioned well enough for iPad games.

On the plus side, the views of the mountains are spectacular. The house is light and airy and the a/c works very well to keep it cool on the hottest days. The area is interesting but does require a drive to most sites. The mountain roads make the travel times a lot longer than the mileage would seem. As long as you plan for it, that isn't a problem. We loved the gorge nearby- lovely outing and good, inexpensive Catalan beer! There are multiple medieval towns nearby that are worth a visit. We found them much more charming than Arles sure Tech or Amelie les Bains. Spain is only a short drive away, so we were able to spend a day or two in Barcelona. The beach town of Argeles sur mer has many restaurants, but an odd, gritty beach. We tried several restaurants and found the prices reasonable and the food good. The pizza restaurant in Arles sur Tech is very good. We ate in the restaurant and found the service and food both very good. In summer, the lovely garden is shaded.

In short, I recommend this house if you like modern houses and don't intend to spend a lot of time cooking. If you enjoy the Pyrenees, you couldn't find better owners to rent from.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to submit a review and glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We were surprised to hear that you felt the kitchen was only minimally equipped, but thank you for replying to my email stating what you felt was missing from the kitchen as some of our other clients had stated that the villa was the best equipped they had stayed in. We took on board your comments regarding the lack of serving dishes and only having one large frying pan, although there were several serving dishes we have since purchased three further dishes and the property already has two large frying pans and can only assume they were not in the same cupboard. Regarding the unclean floors we have since spoken to our cleaner who was confident that the floors were clean, but had it been brought to our attention at the time we would have arranged for the cleaner to visit. It was unfortunate that there was an issue with the boiler however, since we have had installed a brand new quality condensing boiler. Due to the recent changes In satellite television the only option for UK TV in our area is via the internet and due to fluctuating speed this does mean we have a less than perfect system. Although this is the case with the UK TV the internet is more than satisfactory when it comes to searching the web or gaming purposes etc.

Location très agréable et spacieuse

  • 4 of 5

Arles sur Tech is situated in a beautiful valley in the Vallespir in the eastern Pyrenees. Arles sur Tech is a traditional French village and the Abbey Sainte Marie is the focal point and dates back to the eighth century.

The river Tech which runs near to the house and through Arles sur Tech village is used by bathers and fishermen and in the summer there is a bar, BBQ and boules area.

The villa is ideally situated for lovers of the outdoor, there are plenty of walking paths and trails and a 9 hole golf courses 10 minutes drive in Amelie les Bains. The Domaine de Falgos is a top quality golf course in a unique location south facing, by the Spanish border at the foot of Mount Canigou and overlooking the bay of Rosas. There is horse riding, cycling, water sports, cross country skiing, adventure parks and mountain trails to explore all within a short distance and the famous Gorges du Fou is just a 2 minute drive from the villa. Lots of towns & villages for shopping with serious shoppers heading to Perpignan and Barcelona only a 2 hours drive.

Amelie-Les Bains is a 10 minute drive and is a beautiful Roman spa town well known for its micro climate, thermal baths and treatments and relaxed way of life.

There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops & boutiques and Amelie also boosts a Casino with roulette and blackjack tables and also a cinema and shows. There is a daily market and many fetes and concerts, also an outdoor swimming pool and zip lining/adventure park.

Ceret is a beautiful medieval market town with narrow streets and squares with shops and numerous cafes and restaurants to sit and have a drink and soak up the atmosphere. There is a market every Saturday morning with local food, pottery and paintings. The Musee d'Art Moderne is also a must see with a collection of art from famous artists such as Matisse and Picasso. Ceret is famous for it's fete such as The Fete de Cerise (cherry) which is celebrated in April/May and in July The Feria de Ceret when the town celebrates bullfights and a bull runs through the town and La Sardane the traditional Catalan dance festival.
