Swift Cottage is one of nine cottages that have been sympathetically converted from the existing buildings of a working farm. Enjoying peace and quiet, the holiday cottages are set amidst pasture land, and benefit from beautiful and unforgettable views of stunning countryside. With a heated 38ft*16ft indoor swimming pool and quality recreational facilities, Swift Cottage with its exposed roof beams and open gallery has it all. Large lounge / dining area with a slate floor - includes flat screen TV, incorporating DVD player and USB recording facility, games, books etc. Wood burning stove. Lounge has direct access to the private patio area in the front courtyard.. Kitchen - pine country style units - well equipped adjacent to dining area. Ground floor bedroom with twin beds, flat screen TV and en-suite shower room, spiral staircase to open gallery area. First floor main bedroom with king size bed, flat screen TV and en-suite shower room. Heating, linen, towels etc all included. Free Wi-Fi. Swift has the added advantage of rear access to the adjacent communal indoor heated swimming pool and games room and the communal external area for the children's play area, picnic area & barbecue,etc.

Outside

Externally Swift has a large front patio area with picnic table & umbrella, plus a companion timber seat together with barbecue, pot plants & shrubs in adjoining flower beds. This area is a sun trap for eating alfresco.

Family's can enjoy the quite surroundings of the open countryside whilst enjoying a barbecue with just their family or with other families and friends in the communal area for picnics, barbecue etc. whilst the children are playing in close vicinity.

In 2015 Newhouse Barton Management invested in a biomass boiler for the running of the communal building so we have now gone 'Green' and helping the environment.

About Jacquie Quin

In 2012 I retired as a Chartered Architect, having run my own architectural practice for over 15 years, before that I was an Architect for an outer London Borough, specializing in Education and Leisure buildings. I obtained my Architectural and Management qualifications from Northern Polytechnic - Dept. of Architecture and York University. In my early 20's I was married to a Civil Engineer, but my career took over and hence I got divorced..My career is now the self-catering cottages having a barn conversion near Aldeburgh, Suffolk and now Swift Cottage near Totnes. My friends and family love Swift Cottage especially my two pet toy poodles 'George and Pippa'.

Many family holidays with my parents were spent in Devon at a farm in Colyton and when I found Swift Cottage for sale, I knew that I had to buy it, as it was surrounded by the rolling hills of South Devon, just as I remember the area in my early years.

What makes this cottage unique

Swift Cottage is unique in its design by having exposed oak beams, vaulted ceiling, a spiral staircase with access to a mezzanine leading to the first floor main bedroom. Ground floor double bedroom. Both bedrooms with en-suites. Rear door leading direct to the pool and games room. The cottage is cosy with its wood burning stove and heating in all rooms.

Within a 20 min drive the seaside town of Torquay on the ‘English Riviera’, with its palm trees & sub-tropical plants, emanate a Mediterranean feel. Salcombe with its beaches, sailing & water-sports is also easily accessible, as well as Blackpool Sands, Slapton & picturesque Dittisham with its annual crab catching competition. Slightly further afield, East Cornwall & the Eden Project are within an hour’s drive, & the East Devon coast is easily accessible with its unique fishing port of Beer, etc.

Whether seeking an active family holiday or a relaxing weekend to recharge the batteries, Swift Cottage is the perfect location from which to explore the South Hams, the Dart Estuary and Dartmoor. Located midway between Totnes and Newton Abbot, this sympathetically and carefully restored barn enjoys a superb range of communal on-site facilities including a Roman-style heated indoor swimming pool (no additional charge), a traffic-free and child-friendly setting with young children’s play area and a furnished games room with pool table, table tennis, table football and toys for younger guests. Nearby there is a range of quality restaurants and pubs serving an excellent range of food to suit all tastes and budgets. The surrounding area offers a beguiling mix of attractions to suit all tastes and ages. The seaside towns and villages from chic Salcombe to Torquay emanate a Mediterranean feel. Totnes is a 10-minute drive away, with a medieval castle and a thriving arts and crafts scene. Teignmouth is a traditional Victorian seaside resort with a nature reserve at Dawlish Warren, a hotspot for bird watching. Exeter has a world famous cathedral, quays and a shopping centre. For the more active, there’s surfing at Bigbury or visit Haldon Forest, with its cycle and nature trails and Go Ape! For the children, Torbay is easily reached, with Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts.

The wild beauty of Dartmoor is 20 minutes away with its abundance of wildlife and dramatic landscapes. Numerous National Trust properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with bustling boat harbour, castle, contemporary art galleries and boutiques. Be more adventurous and visit the north coast of Devon, exploring the delightful cobbled streets of Clovelly and those donkey rides a 2 hour drive away. Do not forget those Devon Cream Teas in the nearby tea shops.

Swift Cottage is ideal for holidays at any time of the year. It is cosily heated throughout & all facilities, including the indoor heated swimming pool, are open all the year round. This makes Swift perfect for weekly holidays & short breaks whatever the season. It is perfect for family holidays or if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of town/city life. Swift has an exposed beamed open-plan living/dining room overlooking the courtyard with wood-burning stove, sofa bed (for +1) & well-equipped kitchen area with slate floor. Twin bedroom on ground floor with en-suite. Open-tread spiral stairs to first floor: Double bedroom with king size bed & en-suite. Swift Cottage has a four star rating from VisitEngland for self catering and in addition has been rated pet friendly. One small obedient dog is welcome at Swift at an additional charge of £25.00 per stay.

Quality rental from a very accommodating owner

Jacquie's cottage is well equipped with good quality furnishings and textiles. It's roomy. The showers are excellent. There's loads of hot water. The cottage has a reasonable broadband connection and we were able to stream BBC iPlayer content onto the smart TV in the lounge. The cottage is unusual in that group of properties as it has a front and a back door. We found the back door especially handy for access to the swimming pool and the car park. The shared swimming pool is a good size and is lovely and warm. We didn't use the games rom but it looks well equipped.

Jacquie is an excellent communicator and usually responds within the hour. She is very accommodating and resolved a couple of queries to our satisfaction.

We would not hesitate to recommend Swift Cottage and Jacquie.

Property with all the mod cons you would need

All had an enjoyable stay and in particular, my son loved the heated pool and the playground. It's set in lovely countryside with nice views, but not too far away from everything. The dog was at home here too! Only minor niggle is that we had ordered our groceries from Tesco's and when it arrived we found there was no cupboard space at all and had to move things around to make room. The spiral staircase is certainly steep and not for the elderly but it was no problem for us.

Apologies that you did not find a empty kitchen cupboard for the groceries that were delivered. Normally the high level cupboard RHS of the window is empty for that purpose, so in future I will make sure that it is checked at changeover. Spiral staircase up to the main bedroom - Swift has the added attraction of a ground floor twin bedded bedroom with en-suite and is suitable for our guests who are less mobile. Returning guests are offered a 5% reduction on issued rates, so I hope to see you again in the future.

Fantastic holiday!

We had a fantastic time at swift cottage, a perfect family getaway. The cottage was everything as described and more. Cupboards were filled with games and dvds that just added to our enjoyment! The children loved the pool and the area for walking our new pooch!

Well equipped and cosy cottage in a great location

We had a lovely time and the cottage was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Lots of useful information in the welcome pack, and very smoothly organised. Thank you. Lovely pool. The outdoor play area and games room ideal for toddlers. Our boys loved playing outside near the sheep and seeing the trains pass by in the distance.

Wonderful cottage in great location

We stayed for 2 weeks at Swift cottage and didn't want to leave. Great location for exploring Devon and near to all the main attractions, whether you fancy boat trips, steam trains, wine tasting, beach, theme parks, cycling all and more easy to get to. We used the pool pretty much most days and had it to ourselves at times we went. Games room well equipped. welcome pack greatly appreciated on arrival. Accommodation was wonderful with some very thoughtful /practical touches like torches by the back door! Definitely will return.

Brilliant - a well deserved 5 star rating

We were extremely impressed with Swift Cottage. Every possible need was catered for and to a very high standard. The location is great, surrounded by beautiful countryside but within easy reach of many wonderful coastal areas. Ipplepen village is very convenient with a great pub and a Co-op for any forgotten essentials!

Also, the information provided by the owner was amazing; everything anybody could possibly want to know had been included. We would highly recommend the cottage and look forward to staying there again
