Great cabin in rural Virginia, very close to Shenandoah national park
We were planning to spend some time hiking in the Shenandoah national park and were looking for somewhere relatively close to use as a base. The cabin in Fort Valley met our requirements completely! But even more, the valley it was in was so peaceful and quiet. Patrick had recommended Martin's grocery in Front Royal to pick up provisions and we called in there before arriving at the cabin. The recommendation was great, it was a really good grocery with a wide range of food stuffs, beverages and things you didn't think you might need. The cabin itself was ideal! The kitchen had everything and more that we needed as we cooked all our meals. The sitting area/lounge was relaxing and we used the tv to cheer on the Red Sox each evening as they beat the Astros (not bad for 2 Brits on holiday in the USA, but we do have previous form having been to watch them at Fenway Park on previous visits). The large bed was just wonderful! It was very comfortable and cosy, sadly I didn't stay in it for long in the morning because I was out running before heading off to hike! On the final night there the temperature dropped to 32f but with a combination of the extra throws that were provided and the propane heater, it was wonderfully warm! As my UK phone would have cost me a fortune to call Patrick if I had a query I emailed him with any questions I had and he replied very quickly with all the info I needed. And on the final morning as we were packing to leave we were joined by three deer in the yard. Well organised Patrick, you need a extra star for that!

About the host

We fell in love with this cabin which was red and white with beautiful woodwork inside. A year and a half later we transformed it to what it is now. We wanted a place for people to gather and feel like they are home with some nice antiques and artwork, and comfortable furniture. We still have many things we want to do to make it perfect but in the meantime we wanted to share it with our guests and make it their special place. We now have many guests returning yearly and it thrills our hearts to no end. We hope Love and Peace Always!

Why they chose this property

Fort Valley is a Beautiful Valley in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia sitting between the North and South Forks of the Shenandoah River. Early on this valley was considered a place to get away, to relax and enjoy the George Washington Forest. The cabin is a perfect respite to relax, entertain, be romantic or spend time with Friends and Family.
