Perfect location! Water views and easy walk to town. Lovely deck/porch and wonderful back yard for kids. Thanks for a great stay!
Quintessential Beach House in a Perfect Location
We loved our stay at this fantastic beach house in Harwich Port. The living space in the house is very airy and spacious; decor is minimalist and appropriate for a beach house; plenty of space to lounge and dine; covered deck is perfect; ocean breeze at all times; the beach is small and quiet and about 100 steps from the door. Bathrooms are tight but in the grand scheme of life, such a small detail. A great add would be enclosing the outdoor shower. The realtor was a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommend.
“Thank you for this wonderful review, which perfectly captures the magic and charm of our very special house! With a private beach just steps away and ocean breezes to cool you all day and provide a lullaby to sleep and dream at night, it’s pure happiness." (owner)
And, your kind compliment to about the Realtor is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Janet
Serenity and Luxury
2016 will mark our 6th consecutive summer vacationing at this home. (a 3 week duration each time) With Nantucket Sound right there, cares are swept away and this home invites you to make a lifetime of family memories! The rooms are bright and generous in size; including a dining area with a beautiful cathedral ceiling - a fabulous place to share a meal or gather the family for serious board game competition! A stunning back porch makes for the perfect getaway with a good book. In the evening you can take in the beautiful sound of the crashing waves. A short walk will bring you to a precious downtown area. We highly recommend participating in all the locals offer (weekly musical strolls, pancake breakfasts, movie nights for the little ones at Pilgrim Church...and the list goes on!)The neighbors are warm and friendly. An incredibly knowledgeable and professional realtor handles this property; providing everything from restaurant recommendations to the Urgent Care location. This property is sure to bring joy to many families!
Don't be deceived
My family spent a whole month in this home in August. Please read through my thoughtful yet honest pros and cons:
PERFECT location to town and beach
Large, bright and spacious rooms
Large double garage and a half for storage
Relaxing covered porch
Beautiful and mature flowering gardens
Lovely and quiet association beach with friendly and kind neighbors
Mildew found throughout the home-including the bed frames (gross)
Very uncomfortable mattresses
Some mattresses set on plywood because they did not fit the bed frames properly
Rusted light fixtures
Original bathrooms (ask to see photos)
Disorganized and messy kitchen-made finding things quite difficult
Rusted outdoor grill-grate unusable
Outdoor shower NOT enclosed
Wicker furniture in all living areas-charming but extremely uncomfortable
Worn-out and flat cushions on indoor and outdoor wicker sets
Inefficient mudroom area with broken and lack of hooks and/or storage
The bones of the home and its location are top notch. However, it is in definite need of some TLC and updating. We were so disappointed to find the above cons upon our arrival. Luckily the weather was amazing and we spent most of our time enjoying the beach and the wonderful shops and restaurants of Harwichport.
This beach house, which has appeared in both “Country Living Magazine” and as a cover story for “Cape Cod Home Magazine”, has a crew of cleaners who make sure the house is spotless for the next renters. In the case of this tenant, a cleaning crew was immediately dispatched on a Saturday evening to clean the bedframes where the tenant had removed the mattresses to inspect. A new Bosch dishwasher was installed during the tenant’s stay. One of the three bathrooms is completely new, the other two (a full and half bath) have new toilets. And to be sure the house is always as comfortable and functional as it is beautiful, this winter the original sink and faucet in the main upstairs bath are being replaced, along with a kitchen renovation featuring new cabinets, soapstone sink and counter. New woven coverlets from Provence will replace vintage matelasse bedspreads and all sunbrella cushions have plump new pillow inserts.
Don't Be Fooled by "Don't Be Deceived."
Last night I had dinner with a friend. She and her husband and a group of their friends are interested in vacation on the Cape and she asked about the Harwichport house which I've rented four times in the last eight years. I knew it was listed on HomeAway, so I search for the lsiting and forwarded it to her. But not before warning her to take the review "Don't Be Deceived with a huge grain of salt. I was completely stunned by this review and woke up this morning in a mild fury
......this woman had attacked my dream beach house!
I agree with all of her pro's, but the con's.....give me a break! As for the con's, let me tell you my experience.
Mildew?? I have never seen any mildew in this house. If some was found, I would think its proximity to Nantucket Sound (100 feet) was the cause. But "thruout the house??" I seriously doubt it. Look at the pictures. This house is spic and span and that's the way I've always found it.
Uncomfortable mattresses? That was never a problemfor us, but to each his own.
Mattresses set on plywood? The beds are charming and antique and don't conform to today's mattress sizes and thus necessitate the use of plywood.
Rusted light fixtures? To tell you the truth, I never inspected the light fixtures.
The lights worked; what can I say?
Original bathrooms? The 1st floor bathroom is all new in the time we've rented the house. The upstairs bathroom did show its age, but not in an all-together bad way. There's a footed bathtub where I've spent many hours soaking in the deep water that you don't find in new shallow American tubs. And, if you're adventurous, you can pull back the curtain as you sit in the tub and look out at Nantucket Sound. There's also a stall shower that is probably from the 70's. I see in the Owners
Response that the sink and faucet are being replaced.
Rusted outdoor grill grate -- unusable? Rusted, maybe. Unusable -- my barbecue grate is kind of grungy, but I still use it. I'm sure that the case with most of us.
Outdoor shower not enclosed. That's the case at many beach houses. It's there to wash off the sand.
Wicker furniture in all living areas -- charming but uncomfortable. I have never felt that this furniture is uncomfortable. Look at the pictures -- thick cushions. And it's upscale wicker.
Worn-out cushions indoors and outdoors. Indoors, no. Outdoors, yes. But, as on Owners Response, the pillow inserts are being replaced.
Thank you so much for expressing your feelings about this. You can't please everybody, but we certainly try!
We loved the location of this home - close to the village as well as the beach. Clean house with character, slightly tired from rentals though,
Only downside surprise was that there were only 2 double beds for adults.....! Who sleeps on doubles anymore!
Also, the neighbor across the street watched every move we made and even called us when someone parked on the street.
Thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed your vacation at our beach house. Because of your review, we have replaced the double bed in the master bedroom with a new queen bed. You are welcome back anytime.
Other than sunning and swimming your private deeded beach, Harwich offers miles of bike trails, restaurants, parks, tennis, conservation walks, go carts for the kids, and a laid-back Cape Cod atmosphere. It is located 15 miles from Hyannis and 37 miles from Provincetown - a perfect location from which to set up base to see Cape Cod.
