Les Hirondelles has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 2-5 people with free Wifi

Les Hirondelles is set in a private stone walled courtyard with 2 terraces, one in the shade and one in the sun, and is not overlooked; it has a large garden measuring 2200m2 which is securely fenced all around the perimeter with views on the countryside. Les Hirondelles has been completely refurbished in 2011/12 offering the comforts of a new house in an old property all on the ground floor.

There are 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, and there's also a bed settee that sleeps one adult.

We also have a cot, baby bath and a high chair available.

We also own the larger house next door at number 5 'La Sablonniere' ref:1878390 which sleeps 2-10 people. It is particularly useful if you are a larger party wishing to have family get together or celebrate a significant birthday or anniversary.

Both houses are completely private from one another as they are 'L' shaped and are back to back. There is a gate in the back garden which can connect the two properties if desired.

Les Hirondelles is 22 km from Royan and the roman town of Saintes, and is a 15 minute drive away from the nearest beaches at Meschers and 5 minutes away from the nearest restaurant and shops.

There is full electric central heating and double glazing to allow for rentals in the winter as well as the summer.

About Sophie Leech

We are Sophie and Richard Leech and we live in Silkstone near Barnsley where we both work full time. I am a Practice Manager for a GP Practice in Leeds and Richard is a Director of a family business together with his Mother and Brother and they are agents selling sports apparel to retailers in the North of England. Richard is also Chairman of our Parish Council and we are both involved in community projects on a voluntary basis.

Why Sophie Leech chose Saintes area

We bought this house in 2007 as it was just 20 minutes from my French grandparents house in Vaux sur Mer. We called it 'Les Hirondelles' which is french for Swallows as there are a pair of swallows who nest in the barn every summer. The house was a bit of a ruin when we bought it, it had to be practically knocked down and rebuilt as when building work started they found there were no foundations to part of the house. But we fell in love with it despite nicknaming it 'the money pit' for a few years! we could see the potential albeit with a lot of imagination! It took a lot of hard work and even more money to get it to the standard it is today. We have spent every holiday at the house working on it renovating the building into a lovely 2 bedroomed and one bathroom holiday cottage. We redecorate every year and take pride in presenting it in the best way we can.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We love Les Hirondelles, the sun pours in to the room all day and the french doors open straight onto the terrace. We left one of the internal walls in limestone which looks amazing and although we couldn't keep any of the original beams as they had perished, we have left the new beams exposed to full roof height and have whitewashed them.

The garden has been a labour of love too and we have recruited a wonderful gardener now, Antoine, who comes every 2 weeks to look after it. We invested in a ride on mower last year as the garden measures half an acre! We have planted a herb garden on the terrace for our guests to use at the suggestion of a past guest, which is very handy for barbeques.

An ideal holiday 'home from home'

Set in an area which provides peace and quiet far from the crowded tourist centres, Les Hirondelles affords all the comforts of home. Every facility was first class and the standards of housekeeping extremely high. The welcoming basket was much appreciated.

If you crave for sandy beaches they are a reasonable drive away, while the historical towns of Saintes and Pons were a short drive. Nearby towns furnished the usual shopping opportunities although it was noticeable that the supermarkets were having the usual effect on the small shops. Royan was a reasonable drive away and the market there is worth a visit for the local produce.

We had a week of superb weather which made it an even more memorable stay.

Lovely site, well equipped

Pictures of interior need to be updated. Most people decide on site based on photos on website. The interior furnishing had changed from the current pictures shown. Owner should make it clear that towels and bedding are not changed if you are staying for 2 weeks. It would have been no problem to take own towels if known. There was a washer/drier at the site but honestly, whilst on holiday, we did not want to wash and dry towels and bed linen midway through our holiday.

The site was well stocked with good quality kitchenware items. The welcome pack was also great to find.

Overall, a very comfortable and well maintained site, well worth a visit.

Charming comfortable well equipped home.

Les Hirondelles is really a top quality holiday home which is equipped to the highest standard. It is ideally located close to local towns and the beautiful sandy beaches are a short drive away. It is a perfect base to explore the area with the towns of Saintes, Cognac and Royan, to name but a few, within very easy driving distances. Slightly further afield, La Rochelle is good to visit, particularly on market day.The information provided is really useful, giving details of all the local attractions and recommended restaurants. La Table at Meursac is not to be missed. Had a wonderful week at the house with terrific weather. Sophie was very helpful in advising on places to visit and information about the area. Must return.

Beautiful

This is our 2nd stay and the house is still as beautiful as we remember well equipped and spotless everything you could need with 2 children the safe secure garden and swings are an added bonus. Great location for all the local area beaches and towns we discovered so many more areas on top of where we had already visited last year. So much so we have rebooked to return next year for 2 weeks as part of our 2017 summer adventure!

Home filled with charm

We love this area of France and have visited for over twenty years , but still find new places to visit. It adds to the holiday staying at a home that is without fault.It is in an ideal location, the house is clean, stylish, well equipped, has a super kitchen, and a large well kept secure garden.

There is a choice of lovely beaches about 15 to 20 mins drive, but we prefer La Grande Cote which is a 35 min drive away but has a superb 3 to 4 mile long beach.

We recommend this property and will return

Perfect base to explore the area

We chose this cottage as it was Ideally situated between Saintes and Royan, and we're delighted to discover a little gem. It is superbly equipped , quiet, and yet in the village. The beds are good, the satellite TV comforting after 3 weeks away, and the shower just great
