A traditionally built chalet 1km from Samoens in the beautiful hamlet of L'Ettely. Chalet Criou boasts 4 large double bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, A mezzanine that sleeps 2, well equipped Kitchen & large living room with gas/wood burner stove. Large Terrace & Pool for summer use .
The chalet is 50m from Ski-Bus, 1km from the main 2 Samoens Telecabines, and the same distance to Morillon's Telecabine.
Beautiful location, luxury property .
We have put in a new new kitchen and a new master bathroom / wet room - the Pool has new decking & fencing for security.
We live in Hampshire, England and use our house in Samoens as much as we can !
Jim Phillips purchased this chalet in 2013
We love the alps & ski-ing and having lived in Chatel , fell in love with Samoens. Its a beautiful old town, not just a Ski resort, and has loads to offer summer & winter .
Pool , Views, Cycling, Walking, Ski-ing, River Rafting, Parapenting - all on the doorstep
We got a transfer from Geneva Airport to the chalet, it took under 1.5 hours. The house was warm and welcoming and as described in the ad. We were pleased to have somewhere to relax in the large lounge. Plenty of cooking equipment, plates and cutlery for a large party. Food is expensive in France so being able to cook for ourselves saved a fortune. Beds were comfortable. It took us a few days to find the information book which had been put away in a drawer beneath the coffee table but that does give loads of info about the house, area and local facilities. There is no bakery in L'Etteley so we bought part baked bread and cooked our own every morning. The ski busses are regular from the little chapel about 50 yards from the house. Morrillon is about 1km walk for restaurants and bars.
We stayed at the chalet between 14/2 and 21/2/16. We had a great time and found the chalet had everything we needed.
Location - The chalet is ca. 5 mins drive from the main grand massif lift in Samoens. Parking there was ample and never a problem. We hired our skis from the ski shop at the top of the lift (Ski Roland Gay) and also rented a ski locker from them which avoids carrying skis and boots up and down each day. The chalet is close to the town centre which has some great restaurants (Fifine, Mezzanine and La tournalta were all very good)
Accommodation - The accommodation is set over 3 floors with a twin with ensuite on the ground floor as well as a utility room with washing machine/tumble dryer and storage for coats and shoes etc. On the first floor is a very well equipped kitchen with everything we needed. We even christened the fondue set! The kitchen is very new and everything works and has a large dining table (would squeeze in 10) as you leave the kitchen and enter the living area which is very cosy. Lighting is provided by lamps only so not ideal if you are avid readers but we had no issue with this. Please be aware that a couple of the lamps are switched on by switches on the entrance to the room. We spent a few days with only half the lighting as we hadn't figured this out! There is also a lovely master with ensuite on the first floor. The second floor has a bathroom and 2 x twin rooms which the kids had. There is also a couch and TV on this level on the landing area. We couldn't get the DVD player working for the kids though - I think a multi region DVD player is needed here. The DVD player in the lounge played all DVDs.
All in all, we had a great holiday and the chalet exceeded our expectations so wouldn't hesitate recommending to any future interested parties. The owner (Jim) was a pleasure to deal with and quickly responded to any queries we had.
The chalet was perfect for our February ski trip. As three families, ten in total, the layout was perfect with three floors and three bathrooms. The top floor was great for a family of four and we had three in both other bedrooms, using the camping beds which were fine (although one mattress was only suitable for kids)
The kitchen was excellent and includes everything you'd need. It's refreshing to have more than enough cutlery, plates etc. they was also plenty of basics like tea and sugar already provided.
The lounge area includes the dining room and was very nice and cosy after a long day skiing!. The lighting is quite low level though if you’re a keen knitter!
The chalet wifi was excellent and worked fine for 10 of us. There is also plenty of DVDs and books. The brand new copy of Gravity went down a treat!
The cleanliness was spot on and the chalet is clearly well looked after by the owners who use the chalet themselves.
The chalet is only 100 yards from the ski bus between morillon and samoens. Before you go, make sure to print out a bus timetable as it is tricky to get to grips with initially. If you want to get to the slopes quickly, worth using the nearby Vercland ski lift which is much quicker than Samoen. Coming back, more buses seem to come from Morillion than Samoen. Either way, it's only 5 minutes on the bus and they are every 30 minutes at peak times, excluding 12pm - 3pm.
The owners were very friendly, organising keys in advance and setting up the beds before we arrived. A welcome bottle of champagne and wine were a great welcome after a long drive.
A lovely chalet and will hopefully stay again.
